Video Game Resume Is the Best Resume Ever

This video game inspired resume beats any resume that you have offered to potential employers. It is the work of designer Robby Leonardi, who wanted his C.V. to stand out from the crowd. He certainly accomplished that.

Robby created an interactive resume with a Super Mario Bros. sort of theme and it is amazing. It has four levels of awesomeness. This interactive resume is basically a miniature version of Robby as a Mario-type superhero character that runs through the levels, telling employers about his employment history, work experience and portfolio. As an added bonus, it shows off his HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JQuery skills along the way.

You can see it here. Just push the down arrow or spin your scroll wheel and enjoy the ride. Then hire this guy!

Awesome resume. My Mario hat is off to you Robby. I would hire you in a heartbeat just to create cool stuff like this for my own personal amusement.

Spray-on Starpath Makes Roads Glow Like the Starry Night Sky at Night

No, you’re not dreaming. The pavement is actually twinkling like the stars in the sky, and it’s all thanks to Starpath. It’s a spray-on paint that transforms regular pathways into glow-in-the-dark ones.

Aside from the novel aspect of it, Starpath might also some day serve as a low-cost alternate means for outdoor lighting.  Starpath can be sprayed onto a variety of surfaces, like concrete, tarmac, and wood. It absorbs UV energy during the day and releases this energy by “lighting up” at night.

The technology behind it was developed by UK-based company Pro-Teq Surfacing. Hamish Scott, owner of Pro-Teq, explains: “This product adjusts to the natural light, so if it is pitch black outside the luminous natural earth enhances, and if the sky is lighter, it won’t release as much luminosity. It adjusts accordingly, its almost like it has a mind of its own. Further, the surface is environmentally-friendly and aesthetically pleasing.”

Starpath is currently being tested on the footpath in Christ’s Pieces, which is a well-known park in Cambridge, England.

Solar Light Clock Concept Tells the Time by Showing Daylight: Protoclock

Before the invention of timepieces, our ancestors aligned their schedules with the rising and setting of the Sun. Mammoth hunting when the Sun goes up, then chill at Hairy Guy 34′s cave when the Sun goes down. Designer Jon Liow’s concept clock will let you partake in this ancient tradition of guesstimating with the Solar Light.

The Solar Light isn’t solar-powered. It gets its name from its function, which is to mimic the amount of sunlight in a particular timezone. By default, if it’s noon in your chosen timezone, the Solar Light will shine brightly, while its LEDs will probably be completely off at midnight. You’ll be able to select a timezone from a mobile app. You can also invert the light’s function (it’ll be brighter at night, darker during the day) and even turn it to a normal lamp from the app.

I think I’d love to have a Solar Light. It’s a nice way to imagine what your loved ones are doing if they’re abroad. It would be more useful though if it could also show you what the weather is like in that area.

Finger Scanner Concept: The Most Compact Barcode Scanner Ever

I tried working as a cashier at a friend’s store once, and I have to say, it was tough. You would think that it’s all fun and games, pointing the scanning gun at the barcodes of items that people have bought, but it’s harder than you think.

I realized that it took a certain amount of skill, not to mention experience and familiarity, to get into a rhythm and scan stuff in rapid succession without having to rescan any item. Something that might potentially eliminate this problem is the Finger Scanner by Seokmin Kang.

It’s a barcode scanner concept that basically takes that whole scanner and crams it into a tiny device that’s meant to be worn on the user’s index finger. All the user will have to do is scan his finger over the barcode, and voila! It’s done.

It’s only a concept for now, but it’s definitely an interesting one. Just think at how it could make the jobs of so many cashiers easier while cutting down on the average checkout time.

Magic Restroom Cafe Serves up Crappy Food

There’s just something incredibly wrong about eating while you’re in the bathroom, especially when you’re taking a dump. Toilet-related activities and eating just don’t mix, but that’s exactly what the Magic Restroom Cafe wants to change your mind about, because that’s the theme the unusual restaurant is going with.

toilet restaurant 1 620x413magnify

Inspired by the Modern Toilet restaurant in Taipei, this one offers equally crappy food. Not crappy as in “not delicious,” but crappy as in “poop-themed.” Diners are seated on non-functioning toilet seats that they have to sit on opened if they want a backrest. For those who prefer more comfort when they’re dining, there are regular plush seats on the opposite end of the table.

Eater LA also reports that a lot of the food (which has gross names like ‘black poop’ (chocolate sundae), ‘smells-like-poop’ (braised pork over rice), ‘constipation’ (zha jiang mian),” and ‘bloody number two’ (vanilla-strawberry sundae) is served in little ceramic toilet bowls.

Honestly, the food doesn’t sound appetizing. While the presentation is fun, I have a feeling the thought of eating out of a miniature toilet is enough to make some people queasy.

What do you think?

Tokyo Is Rethinking Its Gargantuan Olympic Stadium

Tokyo Is Rethinking Its Gargantuan Olympic Stadium

A coalition of Japanese architects have said what everyone else was too polite to say: That Zaha Hadid-designed stadium is just too big, too expensive, and too impractical. Japanese officials have announced plans to scale back the design, which would cost $3.1 billion to build according to a recent budget update.

Pola Roll: Greatest Toilet Paper Dispenser Ever

While you’re sitting on the pot, the last thing you want to see aimed at your butt is a camera. But in this case, I’ll make an exception. Yes, what you’re looking at here is a toilet paper roll holder made to look like an old Polaroid Land 1000 instant camera.

Just set the Pola Roll on your toilet tank or hang it on the wall, load it up with a roll of T.P., and get down to business. As an added bonus, Charmin is so much less expensive than that overpriced SX-70 instant film.

The Pola Roll is available from doiy. design for €19.95 (~$28 USD). Toilet paper sold separately.

I only suggest that you move quick if you want one, before Polaroid’s lawyers try and flush this thing down the toilet.

FireFly: Compact Camper That Fits in a Pickup Truck Bed

Garrett Finney used to work for NASA designing living spaces on the International Space Station. So naturally he is a smart guy. You have to be to work for NASA. In 2009, he left to build lightweight campers. So what kind of camper does a former NASA designer build? The awesome kind. After a few years and a few models, he came up with the FireFly.

The camper fits into the bed of a truck or onto the back of a small trailer. Built primarily from aluminum and EPS foam, it weighs just 600 pounds, so light vehicles can haul it pretty easily. The interior is small of course, but how much does one person need? You can put your gear beneath the beds, which fold up to provide you with sitting benches and tables.

It comes with optional lander legs too, although I see them as a must unless you’re going to leave it in the back of your pickup truck. It even has a nice little window so you can look at your surroundings. Check out more images of FireFly here. I can’t wait to see what other designs he comes up with.
