HP has announced its first mobile all-in-one PC, the HP ENVY Rove 20. As the name suggests, this AiO unit measures in at 20-inches corner-to-corner, and features a battery, allowing users to unplug it and go cable-free. This differentiates the device from many other all-in-one units, which – like a regular desktop computer – turn off when unplugged. We’ve got a video of the massive slate after the break.
The display comes in the form of an IPS LED panel offering a resolution of 1600 x 900 with 10-point touch, and audio is courtesy of integrated Beats Audio. Under the hood, the HP ENVY Rove 20 runs 4th generation Intel Core processors and Intel HD graphics. The AiO PC has an adjustable kickstand on the back for propping the device up. As far as software goes, HP preloads the ginormous slate with some games, including Monopoly.
HP’s Consumer PCs and Solutions Senior VP and General Counsel Ron Coughlin said: “Customers are looking for mobility and flexibility in their computing devices to give families new ways to bring generations together. HP is evolving to meet our customers’ needs by designing next-generation form factors, like the Rove mobile All-in-One PC, which will enable people to connect, share and create in ways they never imagined.”
In addition to the ENVY Rove 20, HP also announced a couple other devices, including the HP Pavilion 20 TouchSmart and Pavilion 23 TouchSmart All-in-One PCs, the HP Pavilion 11 TouchSmart Notebook, and the HP Pavilion 14 TouchSmart Sleekbook. Obviously, all four PCs offer touch panel displays, allowing users to take advantage of Windows 8′s touch-based design.
And finally, rounding out the announcement are two new compact printers, the HP ENVY 4500 All-in-One and the HP 5530 e-All-in-One. Both are color printers offering HP ePrint and HP wireless direct. With this functionality, consumers can print from a mobile device, such as an iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
All the PCs will be launched in June, with the exception of the HP ENVY Rove 20, which will be released in July for a yet-unspecified price. The Pavilion 20 TouchSmart AiO will be priced at $620, the Pavilion 23 TouchSmart AiO will be priced at $750, the Pavilion 11 TouchSmart Notebook at $400, and the Pavilion 14 TouchSmart Sleekbook at $480. All prices are the base rate, and will increase depending on user customizations.
The ENVY 4500 (launch in June) printer will start at $99, and the ENVY 5530 eAiO (launch in July) at $130.

IDC: PC market to decline yet again
Posted in: Today's ChiliIt looks like 2013 will be another bad year for PCs. Shipments of PCs is expected to decline yet again this year, but only by about 1.3%. The IDC reports that this is due to the lack of enthusiastic response to Windows 8, and also due to the struggling economy. While IDC reports that PC sales are going downhill, it looks like smartphone sales are still growing at a rapid pace and at a pace that won’t slow down until around the year 2017.
IDC states that emerging markets are no longer buying PCs and at an increasing rate. It also states that sales of PCs in emerging markets are nearing the same sales figures as those in the mature markets. In the IDC smartphone forecast, you can see that emerging markets play a huge role in sales as many countries begin adapting to newer technologies. In Q4 2012, there was a year-over-year decline of 8.3% in PC shipments, which is a huge decline considering Q4 is holiday season.
PC shipments are expected to only experience growth in the single digit percentile all the way through 2017. Total shipments of PCs are expected to equal around 207.1 million in emerging markets for this year. Total shipments for PCs are expected to reach around 138.7 million for mature markets like the United States. All in all, there should be around 345.8 million PCs sold this year worldwide. The second half of this year we should be seeing a slight increase in PC sale momentum.
PCs aren’t like smartphones, where people replace them every 1-2 years (or every 4-5 months for me). The average user can stick to the same PC for years to come, and they see no point in spending nearly a thousand dollars on a new PC when their current one is already capable of doing the regular tasks, like web browsing, online-shopping, document editing, etc.

TweetDeck has just released a statement saying that Twitter will be discontinuing several of its apps. TweetDeck for iOS and TweetDeck for Android will be removed from their respective apps store in May. Along with those apps, TweetDeck AIR will also be removed, and Facebook integration will cease. All of the apps will stop functioning shortly after they’re removed from the market. They state that the reasoning is because most of its power users only use its web-based app.
TweetDeck will focus all of its efforts to improve the experience for its power users. It is focusing entirely on developing its web-based app and Chrome app. It believes that most users are steering away from its TweetDeck mobile apps and opting towards Twitter’s official mobile apps and its feature-rich offerings like photo-filters, various editing capabilities, and enhanced search.
Despite cutting off support for its mobile apps, TweetDeck is doing exceptionally well. It has doubled its workforce in the past six months and it has massively improved its web/chrome apps. It has revamped its user experience, created a search term auto-complete feature, included search filters, and have included an auto-updating twitter stream feature. It also releases updates on a weekly basis.
Your TweetDeck mobile apps shouldn’t be discontinued until sometime in May, however TweetDeck has stated that it will be “retiring” its Twitter v1.0 API, the same API that TweetDeck’s mobile apps work on. So in the next couple of months, users who are still using the TweetDeck apps will experience several outages. TweetDeck understands that many users will be affected by this change and has stated, “And for those of you who are inconvenienced by this shift, our sincere apologies.”

AVADirect is now offering the newly unveiled NVIDIA GTX Titan graphics processing unit in its high-quality, custom-built computers. AVA Direct is a custom computer manufacturer that builds high-end computers designed to meet the latest and greatest in the advances of computer technology. They’re on the same line as other custom system manufacturers like Cyberpower, Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, Geekbox, IBUYPOWER, Maingear, Origin PC, Puget Systems, V3 Gaming, and Velocity Micro.
So you can expect that when NVIDIA announced the Titan, AVADirect was all over it. The NVIDIA GTX Titan GPU includes and improves existing NVIDIA features, like NVIDIA adaptive veritical sync and NVIDIA Surround. It offers support for 3-way SLI and support for up to 4 displays. It also supports up to 4k resolutions and the DirectX 11.1 API. The GPU will cost $999, have 2,688 CUDA cores, 6GB of GDDR5 RAM, and 7.1 billion transistors.
The NVIDIA GTX Titan is a very powerful, and very efficient GPU, one that NVIDIA claims as “the most powerful GPU on the planet”. It is designed with pro-gaming in mind and will meet all the needs of even the most demanding games out there, like Crysis 3. The Titan will be one of the greatest tools in any pro-gamer’s arsenal.
Of course, at the $1000 price-tag, the Titan won’t be for everyone. AVADirect, however, will offer the Titan in customized computer builds that will still be relatively affordable. Its goal is to get the GPU to as many consumers as possible, because while it may be a highly coveted, powerful GPU, it shouldn’t be unattainable.
