Optrix XD Sport Wide-Angle action case

If you happen to own a smartphone and yet are an adrenaline junkie yourself, then you might be interested to hear about the Optrix XD Sport Wide-Angle action case, which was developed in partnership with iStabilizer. Just what the heck does the Optrix XD Sport Wide-Angle action case do? For starters, it was specially designed to be able to transform the iPhone 4, 4S and iPod touch into an extreme wide-lens camera, as users will be able to delight in the Glidepro handheld video stabilizer, rugged flexible Dolly, extendable Monopod and Flex Tripod to it’s stable of accessories and mounts.

John Willenborg, founder of Optrix, said, “Although the XD Sports Case is military grade and rugged enough to withstand almost any condition, it is also the perfect iPhone case for photography enthusiasts. Our new line of accessories gives both photography novices and professionals even more options to capture their memories while keeping their device safe.”

The Glidepro Hand Stabilizer is ideal to capture smooth and steady videos just about anywhere, where it does away with the shakes that are normally associated with hand-held filming. Not only that, it uses similar technology that is found in professional filmmaking equipment. Apart from that, there is the Dolly Flexible Roller that is perfect for tracking shots, time lapse, artistic work and capturing travel videos, and large wheels help provide smooth movement, while the presence of 11” adjustable arm paves the way for one to shoot via unique angles and positions.

Last but not least, the Monopod Extendable Arm is suitable for self-portraits, high/low angles, self-videos and POV shots, where its extendable arm provides access to hard to reach camera angles and positions. Sporting a lightweight portable design, it can extend itself up to 3 feet. It does sound as though you are spoilt for choice, so which would you settle for?

Digital Camera Dissection Explains Why Your Dirt Cheap Shooter Sucks

The image quality might be absolutely terrible, but one advantage to dropping just $18 on a low-low-end digital camera like the Vivitar V25 is that you can dissect it without feeling guilty. The Kahn Academy certainly didn’t shed a tear over the demise of this V25. Instead, they used its death as a golden opportunity to explain how a digital camera works, and how a cheap model manages to be so affordable. More »

AT&T announces Samsung Galaxy Camera availability

When it comes to digital cameras, this particular market is split right down the middle, although there are others who say that we are looking at three different niches here. First, there is the mass consumer level digital cameras, and then we have the Micro Four Thirds category, followed by of course, the DSLR camp. Today, we will look at the first category with AT&T having announced that they will make available the Samsung Galaxy Camera from November 16th onwards at a relatively affordable price point of $499.99. Of course, it is a wee bit more expensive compared to other normal digital cameras in the market, but then again do bear in mind that this is a 4G connected camera, which adds to some semblance of advanced machinery to a regular shooter.

Not only that, folks who are already on a tight budget will find that for a limited time only, AT&T customers are able to receive up to $100 off the purchase of a second Samsung Galaxy handset or other Samsung connected device – talk about a marketing ploy to push more Samsung-branded devices into your home’s consumer electronics ecosystem. Back to the Samsung Galaxy Camera, it merges high performance photography with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, working in tandem with AT&T’s 4G mobile internet. As a result, you end up with a powerful point-and-shoot camera that boasts of a familiar, intuitive user interface, with of course, the much vaunted access to Android applications via the Google Play market.

Just to recap, some of the hardware specifications packed into the Samsung Galaxy Camera include a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD display, sporting a 21x optical zoom lens and a super-bright 16-megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor that allows you to capture high-quality images close up as well as in low light conditions. It runs off a quad-core 1.4GHz processor that delivers quick and responsive performance, while you get to enjoy powerful manual controls with its Expert Mode that enables you to fiddle with manual settings of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

Drift HD Ghost action camera for those who want to record their hair raising adventures

Are you an adrenaline junkie who always loves to regale the rest with tales of your latest exploits, but sometimes, the kind of words in your vocabulary does not do you any justice? If only everyone around you listening in were to see what you saw from your point of view, you thought. Perhaps that idea is not too far fetched to develop further, in the form of the Drift HD Ghost action camera. It is built upon a special feature set, which will also boast of a two-way LED remote control with on/off indicator light – the first of its kind in the industry.

Apart from that, you are also able to enjoy video recording/tagging capabilities in continuous loop mode, while watching a near instant playback of what was just recorded on an integrated 2-inch Gorilla Glass LCD display, clearly marking out the Drift HD Ghost as one of the best all-in-one solutions right now in its device category. The Drift HD Ghost is proud to be different from other point of view cameras which will require aftermarket accessories as well as peripherals for functionality, as it already comes equipped with just about everything you need to shoot professional quality video right from the get go. Apart from that, it also has an intuitive user interface that makes it a snap to use, easy to navigate and even easier to set up.

In addition, the Drift HD Ghost is proud to be the only action camera that comes packaged with a wearable on/off remote control with LEDs and wrist strap. There is a very good reason for the placement of the LED lights on the remote, as they will be able to let you know at a glance the kind of mode that is in use currently, while showing a color-coded system that indicates Video, Photo, Timelapse or Photoburst modes. Not only that, the remote will also streamline functionality as you can capture photos as well as alter function modes from distances of up to 30 feet away, but I would not want to test the maximum distance during crucial moments as you can never tell just when that sudden appearance of a concrete wall interferes with your remote commands.

Expect to pick up the Drift HD Ghost action camera for $399 a pop if you are interested.

Memoto wearable camera

Sometimes, there are moments in life that you just forgot to capture, or failed to be ready in anticipation. Having said that, since mankind is always on the lookout to improve him or herself, here is an idea that might actually take off in the long run. I am referring to the Memoto wearable camera – something that is tiny enough and not obstructive at all, and yet is capable of capturing and letting you relive those more meaningful moments of your life. The Memoto is not just any camera that snaps random photos, it is wearable, sports GPS capability as well as comes with an accelerometer integrated within. Let us read on to know in deeper detail on how it works.

For starters, Memoto is a Swedish company that intends everyone to be able to enjoy a true photographic memory, hence they have decided to come up with this intelligent micro-device which is capable of capturing just about every moment of your life in photo keyframes. The shots are said to be spontaneous, and they can be effortlessly searched, shared and revisited at any time thanks to Memoto’s innovative web service and mobile application.

Martin Källström, CEO of Memoto, said, “Imagine if you could capture and re-live every memorable moment of your life. With Memoto, you can effortlessly travel back in time to that moment when you met the love of your life, the day your daughter took her first step, or that night you laughed the night away with friends.”

Sharing roughly the same dimensions as that of a postage stamp, the Memoto camera will be integrated easily into your daily life. The camera itself hooks up to your clothing thanks to a tiny stainless steel metal clip, where it will get around its work, subtly capturing every special moment of your life as it happens. This works before you are able to have an inkling as to how special it is. The magic behind Memoto lies in its advanced software that organizes the photos so that they function as a photographic memory which can be accessed at any time, even after many years, without you feeling overwhelmed or disorganized.

It will capture a photo automatically every 30 seconds in 5 megapixel resolution images, and will also keep a log of GPS positions and timestamps. The built-in rechargeable battery lasts for up to two days, and comes with an LED battery life indicator.Expect it to cost $279 when it hits the market in a myriad of colors early next year.

Capture SLR Camera Clip System

I was reading across the product description of the $79.99 Capture SLR Camera Clip System when I came across this term “photogeek”. It seems that a photogeek is one who (obviously) has his or her life intertwined with a DSLR, where one will need to opt between a heavy and bulky camera hanging by your neck so that you will be able to access it easily to capture impromptu shots when the situation calls for it, or to stash your sensitive and expensive equipment away somewhere so that it remains safe and sound from the dangers of knocks, drops and scratches. The Capture SLR Camera Clip System might just help photogeeks achieve a healthy balance, where it functions as a compact ultralight clip system for your camera.

Touted to be a snap to install and use, it does not matter if you are a soccer mom, an avid hiker or a conventional photographer, the Capture SLR Camera Clip System is able to cater to all of those mentioned lifestyles and then some. Securely fastening itself onto any strap or belt, it will be able to hold your expensive DSLR rigidly until the situation calls for it to spring into action, where a single press of a button will see the quick-release plate slide free, letting you snap away. Placing it back where it belongs is equally easy, where a single click will let you know it is safely tucked there. Made out of compact ultralight aluminum, you might want to retain that gym membership of yours since this will not help you build any more muscles on the go.

Bubblescope for your iPhone 4/4S is like a portable Google Street View car

For those of us who live in countries where Google’s Street View is supported in the area or state where you live, you might have stumbled upon one of those Google Street View cars which have a somewhat bulbous camera located right at the top to capture a panoramic view of its surroundings. For those who want panoramic shots without requiring your phone’s camera to have its very own software do so, then there is the £69.99 Bubblescope to get the job done.

The BubbleScope is actually a 360º lens attachment for your iPhone, where it can shoot not only stills but videos as well, which is what the manufacturer calls ‘bubbles’. All you need to do is attach the included case, pop-up the lens from its protective cap and launch the free BubblePix App, and you can start ‘bubbling’ away in a jiffy. Touted to be the “only true 360º panoramic attachment” that delivers not only still images and video on your iPhone, it is time to have a whole new perspective on your surroundings.

Samsung announces Galaxy Camera debut on AT&T

We do know that Samsung is a consumer electronics giant that has their finger dipped in just about every conceivable industry, but they are most famous for their range of TVs, home appliances as well as smartphones and tablets. As for the digital camera segment, well, it is suffice to say that Samsung is not at the top of most peoples’ lists when one talks about a digital camera, never mind the fact that the South Korean conglomerate has done pretty all right for itself where conventional, consumer class digital cameras are concerned. Well, this time around Samsung has carved out a potentially new niche for themselves in the form of an Android-powered digital camera simply known as the Samsung Galaxy Camera.

AT&T has just announced that the Samsung Galaxy Camera is headed towards the US carrier’s way, where it will merge high performance photography alongside the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, not to mention coupling that with AT&T 4G mobile internet connectivity that results in a powerful point and shoot camera that Android users will certainly be down with thanks to the presence of a familiar, intuitive user interface, not to mention being able to access the slew of your favorite Android applications which can be downloaded or purchased from the Google Play market.

I guess you can more or less say that this is the Android-powered version of the iPod touch – it does not have any phone capability, and yet is connected to a software market of sorts, and takes great images, too, at least for the budding photographer. Features of the Samsung Galaxy Camera include a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD display, a 21x optical zoom lens and a super-bright 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor that comes in handy when shooting high-quality images in macro and low light conditions. There is a quad-core 1GHz processor underneath the hood doing all of the grunt work, making sure it is responsive enough to your whims and fancies.

No idea on pricing or an exact available date, but just like winter (for folks living in the northern hemisphere, of course), it is coming. For real.
