Build Your Own Paper Velociraptor

Check out this Kickstarter campaign for KitRex, which is basically a 3D paper velociraptor that you build yourself. 3D paper velociraptor? I’m in. You build the googly-eyed dinosaur by folding and tabbing together specially cut pieces of high-quality Bristol board. It balances on its feet. You can put googly eyes on it, feathers, and what ever you want.

This project came about because of a homework assignment in which creator Lisa Glover was asked to research a manufacturing process and demonstrate it in a unique way. So she researched industrial origami, and in about 50 hours she had designed, cut, and built a wearable 15-ft long velociraptor out of cardboard (shown above). When she decided to wear it to a costume party, needless to say she was the star of the evening. While you can’t buy her velociraptor costume, you can own this smaller, 3-foot-long version of the paper velociraptor.

KitRex is starting out by making paper raptors, but hopes to go on to make a complete paper menagerie of dinosaurs, including the mighty T. Rex.

The project has already made more than 12 times its original $8,000(USD) fundraising goal, because people love them some dinosaurs. If you want one for yourself, pledge at least $20 over on Kickstarter by April 29.

Mini Museum Contains Tiny Samples of Rare Objects: What is This? A Museum for Ants?

Mobile devices let us look up practically anything we want to know about anywhere and anytime, but there’s nothing like looking at the real deal. Relics and artifacts invoke a sense of wonder and fire up our imagination. Product designer Hans Fex thought of a brilliant way for us to experience that spark anytime and anywhere with his Mini Museums.

Hans says he’s wanted to make the Mini Museum since he was seven years-old. He got the idea from his father, a research scientist. In 1970 the elder Fex brought his son some artifacts that he embedded in clear resin, perhaps to protect them from his child’s curious and unsteady hands.

Now in his forties, Hans has gathered 33 very rare specimens that he’s chopping into tiny bits to share with you. These include a meteorite from the Moon, a T-rex tooth and even a 4,568,200-year old object, the oldest piece of matter ever collected.

Help Hans feed his growing beard. Pledge at least $99 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Mini Museum as a reward. Pledge at least $230 if you want to get the Mini Museum that has all 33 specimens.

Tactical Dinosaur Ready for Battle

If there is one thing we don’t have enough of, it is tactical dinosaurs. Check out this combat-ready velociraptor from Blue Force Gear that was on display at a recent trade show. I would ride this thing into battle in a second. My only requirement is that it is outfitted with twin laser turrets.

Just imagine these things running around on the battlefield, with military riders and lasers pew-pew-ing everywhere.  Nothing beats a Tac-Rap!

At some point, should you get separated from your platoon and night time arrives, you may even have to cut it open so you can stay warm while you sleep. Awesome Empire Strikes Back bonus!

This dinosaur lamp and vinyl wall decal combo is the cheapest way to create your own Jurassic Park in your bedroom. It’s not for kids who are afraid of dinosaurs though – unless you want to scare them silly and scar them for life.

Uncle Milton’s Dinosaur Expedition set doesn’t just project light on the wall, it makes dinosaur and jungle sounds when you press the button too. It’s available over on Amazon for about $18(USD). The bogeyman doesn’t stand a chance.

My Little Raptor: Friendship is AAAAAIIIEEEE

deviantART member Brianna Garcia made these Cretacious ponies.  Despite their sharp teeth and large claws, they still look sweet and friendly. Especially when you compare them to the Cthulhu ponies.

Scientists explain how T Rex soft tissue remained preserved for 68 million years

Scientists have been trying to explain exactly how some soft tissue on a 68 million year old T Rex skeleton could have survived millions of years without rotting away. The question has been burning in the minds of researchers since 2005 when an adolescent T Rex skeleton was discovered in Montana that had soft tissue […]

Dinosaur Bone Wedding Bands Mark the Extinction of Your Single Life

A diamond is forever, so how special is that? Anyone can get a diamond. You can’t destroy the things. But a dinosaur bone? That’s awesome. And it says that your love is an ancient and special thing that can only be destroyed by a worldwide calamity that wipes out an entire species. Now that’s love.

These handmade rings come from Jewelry by Johan, who gets the materials for the rings from the Morrison Formation in Utah. Sadly, they’re not actual bone fragments, but the colorful quartz minerals formed in the fossils where dinosaur bones once lay. Still, these fossils date all the way back from the Jurassic Era over 65 million years ago. They also make some rings with meteorite fragments as well.

Nothing says love like wearing the bones of dead giants, or so I once heard a Klingon say.

New dinosaur species discovered that challenged T-Rex ancestors

When it comes to dinosaurs, most people think of the Tyrannosaurs Rex as being the king of all meat eating dinosaurs. A new dinosaur species has been discovered in Utah that was a competing species to the family of the T-Rex. The fossilized remains of the dinosaur was found in central Utah. The dinosaur is […]

Light-up Animated Dinosaur Christmas Lawn Ornament: Jurassic Holidays

We haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet, but since the stores are all advertising Christmas goodies that suck, I figured you would want to see something cool. This animated Stegosaurus Christmas lawn ornament goes for $140 and it is easily worth twice as much because dinosaurs and Christmas go together like Fred Flintstone and Brontosaurus burgers.
dinosaur christmas light 620x579magnify

Its neck and tail move and he lights up. The only problem is that this dino is so cool you know some kid is just going to steal it and put it in his room for a night light. Oh well. Until that happens, this stegosaurus will look great in your nativity scene with baby Jesus riding the five-foot beast.
