Mech Cellphone Holder Will Destroy All Other Cellphone Holders

I’m taking a break from getting my ass handed to me playing Titanfall, and I just had to post this. This mech is the best possible way to display your smartphone.

It was made by MechWorld, using a variety of random metal bits and bobs, many of which look like the leftover parts from an IKEA cabinet I once put together. When there’s no cellphone docked as its pilot, I wonder if it has an auto-pilot follow mode where it fires RPGs at other phone stands it doesn’t like.

Fuse Chicken announces togoDock magnetic dock for the iPhone

plugdockHave you heard of Fuse Chicken before? They happen to be the ones behind the insanely popular Une Bobine, and their latest creation would be the togoDock. The togoDock happens to be an ingenious magnetic dock for the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C as well as the iPhone 5, where it would arrive with embedded magnets that can be mounted to just about any surface without missing a beat. Not only that, the togoDock would also boast of an integrated charge cable that allows you to deliver power on-the-go, making it a whole lot more handy than you originally expected. .

Fawcett, CEO of Fuse Chicken, shared, “Our goal is to make everyday interaction with technology simple. Our newest device lets you mount and charge your iPhone anywhere – in the car as a GPS, in the kitchen to follow recipes, next to the bed as an alarm clock; togoDock is simple, cool and useful, and it fits right into your pocket.”

As the owner of a togoDock, you will be able to mount it in a couple of methods. The first of the two ways would be to place it straight onto a magnetic surface, while for all of the other surfaces that you want the togoDock to be mounted on, you can always make use of the pair of included self-adhesive disc mounts that will double up as a magnetic surface, allowing it to cling to togoDock’s embedded magnets. The togoDock also comes with a built-in backstop for extra stability and support, a MFI certified Lightning Connector for iPhone 5S/5C/5, a cable cord wrap outfitted with a standard USB for charging, and a car adapter which would come in handy for those who are constantly driving around.

Right now, the togoDock is part of an Indiegogo campaign, where the first 200 backers will be on the receiving end of a 3D-printed PLUGdock that will convert an Apple iPhone charging cord into an outlet-mounted dock. Reserving one on Indiegogo would cost you $30 a pop.

The Sidekick Gives Your Pebble A Place To Rest Its Head And Recharge

white sidekick v2

The Pebble smartwatch is a great gadget in many respects, but the one thing that has always struck me as less than convenient is the fact that it uses a proprietary magnetic cable to charge. I lose said cable with fair frequency, and in fact I have no idea where it is right at this very moment. New Kickstarter project Sidekick will at least make it harder to lose, with a Pebble dock that holds your charger cable and provides power to your Pebble.

The Sidekick is a small rounded triangle, hewn either from black or white plastic or from wood, with a special channel cut out to perfectly fit the cable. It also supports your Pebble in an upright position, providing a clear view of the screen if you’re sitting at your desk working on your computer for instance.

Sidekick creator and design company Documont founder Rodney Timbol says that he has become a devoted fan of the Pebble itself, but also found that it wasn’t quite as convenient as it could be for off-wrist use.

“My wife and I purchased the Pebble and both had the experience of the Pebble and charger dropping on the floor from our nightstand so needed a really simple way of avoiding damaging our newly purchased watches,” he explained. “I started thinking I needed a stand but I got so consumed by the functions of the Pebble and that began my quest to design a different docking experience.”

0afd838fe6ecaf1213aa47d7a533357a_largeIt’s definitely true that as a watch-wearer myself, I always take mine off while typing in order to allow for free and easy typing. Usually, I keep my iPhone in a dock below my monitor to also keep up with info coming in on that device, but the Sidekick might better serve that purpose for those looking to maintain the kind of information prioritization that smartwatch notifications can provide.

With no moving parts and an attractive design, the Sidekick is a deceptively simple Pebble accessory that actually seems like something you’d expect Pebble might eventually ship in the box itself. It’s extremely affordable, too: $15 gets you one in the natural maple finish, and currently you can get a black or white version for just a $19 pledge. It can dock a Pebble either with charging or without (which means you won’t unnecessarily be putting stress on your battery), and it supports after-market bands as well as those that ship on the Pebble.

Timbol says that he plans to build a Pebble Steel version as well once he receives his device in early February, so anyone who has pre-ordered this device can expect something similar to emerge to suit the new Pebble magnetic connector, which differs from the original design. The Sidekick has an anticipated ship date of April 2014.

Apple patent application shows always-listening smart docking station

An Apple patent application has cropped up on the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s website showing a smart docking station for the iPhone, something that will make using Siri from across the room a simple matter. Motrr ships Bluetooth-enabled Galileo robotic dock

mottrYou might not have heard of Motrr before, but they are the designers of the highly acclaimed Gorillapod camera tripods that have become popular, as these accessories would enable one to shoot photos from really extreme angles without having you to worry about the safety of your camera equipment. Well, this time around, we are pleased to announce that Motrr has started to ship the Bluetooth model of its popular Galileo robotic dock. This is one $149.95 robotic dock which will play nice with the latest iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, not to mention its predecessors of up to the iPhone 4S, and the fifth generation of the iPod touch. What one should take note of is this – the original 30-pin model actually picked up $702,427 in pledges when it was launched on Kickstarter last year, which happened to be over seven times the fundraising goal.

One of the first apps that have been created in order to integrate itself with the new Bluetooth model would be a remote-monitoring app that they call Airbeam, while the Presence app would also be able to play nice with the original 30-pin model. With the Bluetooth-enabled Galileo robotic dock, parents are now able to keep an eye on their kids even if they are in a different room, as well as having this function as some sort of security device to make sure that your home remains as it is, even when you are away from it for work or a holiday.

Since the mantra of “there’s an app for that” has become more or less something which is “normal”, it is also not surprising to find the $3.99 AirBeam app turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a real-time HD video and audio monitoring system when it is used in tandem with the Galileo system, of course. Heck, this is one time you would wish that the iPhone arrives with a larger screen size, especially when you consider how you can set up multiple Galileos to view multiple screens simultaneously.

Foaster Dock Toasts iPhones with Lightning Cables

Designer Mike Charles wanted to have a dock for his iPhone that would not only reduce cable clutter but blend in his kitchen as well. He ended up with the Foaster, a dock for the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C that looks just like a toaster. He gets bonus points for not naming it the iToaster.

    foaster iphone 5 5s 5c dock 620x421magnify

The Foaster has a plastic body with aluminum trim. It will come with two MFi-certified Lightning-to-USB cables so you can charge up to two iPhones at once. Sadly, unlike a real toaster its slots are not spring-loaded. The phones won’t sink when you plug them in and they certainly won’t pop off when they’re done charging. But at least you can easily plug and unplug your iPhone from the dock.

Pledge at least $79 (USD) on Kickstarer to get a Foaster as a reward. What’s next? Foven for iPads?

Skywood PhonePad Loves All Your Samsung Galaxy Smartphones

Skywood PhonePad Loves All Your Samsung Galaxy SmartphonesSamsung has definitely come into their own as a company that produces fantastic smartphones over the past few years (apart from them churning out a plethora of other consumer electronics goods, of course), and just in case you had picked up a Samsung Galaxy smartphone but wished for it to arrive with a larger display, fret not. You do not have to trade in your phone anytime soon, as a company known as Skywood figures out that they have the answer, which is a tablet dock that has been specially designed for it to work with the Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, and even the most recent Galaxy S4 handsets. Apple users, do not look on in envy as Skywood has also mentioned that they are working on a version which will play nice with the iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c.

The Skywood PhonePad was shown off at the HKTDC show in Hong Kong, where this smartphone accessory would arrive with a 10” display that can be flipped up. Once that happens, it will stand up in the same manner as that of a laptop, allowing you to view movies, watch presentations, as well as having a whole lot more fun on a larger display. Using this in Economy Class on board an aircraft might not be such a good idea considering the cramped space, but perhaps when you are traveling on the road, or simply want to rest in your cubicle with a favorite short movie, it does seem to be ideal. The thing is, the external 10” display is of lower resolution than the newer Galaxy smartphones, with just 1024 x 600 pixels packed in. Bummer!
