Paper Skyrim Frost Dragon: Made from The Elder Scrolls?

It never ceases to amaze me just how much detail you can get in a paper sculpture. It blows my mind. Look at the level of detail on this papercrafted Skyrim frost dragon sculpture. It’s just amazing.

It was made by DeviantArtist DaiShiHUN who must be a level 10 Paper Mage. For this project he experimented with new textures and created a more stable base for it, which is a ruined Word Wall. This thing stands about 45 cm (~17 in) tall. He made it more sturdy by filling it with expanding foam.

Well, it looks pretty amazing. This makes me want to dust off my copy of Skyrim and play it again.

Nuance Dragon Notes brings quick, spoken memos and messages to Windows 8

Nuance Dragon Notes for Windows 8 lets us speak our memos

Sometimes, the smallest and simplest apps make the most sense. Take Nuance’s new Dragon Notes for Windows 8, for example. Unlike its NaturallySpeaking cousin, it’s not a universal tool: instead, it’s narrowly focused on the voice dictation of memos, email, social networking updates and web searches. That limited scope leads to a very simple interface, however, and slims down the price from $100 to a far more accessible $20. Fans of minimalism can grab Dragon Notes directly from Nuance on May 15th, although they’ll need to spend $10 for every language they speak beyond English.

Dragon Gate Guards Driveway: Fire and Blood (and Steel)

There are lots of different ways to keep intruders out of your house. You could go with some garden gnomes, or possibly a gargoyle, or maybe even a statue. But nobody will mess with you if your driveway is protected by a dragon.

dragon gate 1

Before you ask, this isn’t the entrance to House Targaryen on the island of Dragonstone. It’s the front gate of Harlech House, a nearly 10,000 square foot private residence located in Goatstown, Dublin, Ireland. The house was built in 1798, but was extensively remodeled about 15 years ago. The interior of the house is quite opulent and impressive, so it’s only appropriate that access is restricted by a gate.

It’s too bad that it doesn’t breathe fire when an unwanted solicitor comes to ring the bell. That’d be neat.

Vietnam Has a Fire-Breathing Dragon

The next time you travel to Vietnam, make sure you check out their 85 milion dollar fire-breathing dragon. An 85 million dollar glowing neon fire-breathing dragon, that is. It can breathe both fire and water.

dragon bridge

Did I mention that it is also part of a bridge? The bridge spans the Han River in the port city of Da Nang. This color changing dragon lights up using 15,000 Philips LEDs.

Why can’t we have awesome bridges like this in the U.S.? Probably because all the LARPers would gather there and form a dragon-worshipping cult.

Also sword-wielding geeks would climb up on the head to get their picture taken. Check out the video to see the dragon in action.

After hours at NAB: A closer look at Red’s Dragon upgrade operation (video)

After hours at NAB A closer look at Red's Dragon upgrade operation video

Red’s clean room on the NAB show floor is typically no place for camera crews, but after adding a bit of protection, Red President Jarred Land gave us the green light to step inside the company’s sacred space for a closer look at operation Dragon upgrade. (The $8,500+ sensor swap gives Epic cams the gift of 6K shooting.) The view from behind the glass wall separating spectators from technicians isn’t significantly different, but we were able to get quite a bit more insight into how the process goes down, including stops at each of the workstations.

The temporary assembly center that Red built at the Las Vegas Convention Center is a miniature version of the company’s primary facility in Irvine, California — while Dragon upgrades are underway in Las Vegas, a structure that’s estimated to be 20 times the size of the one here in Nevada is processing the updates remotely, though admittedly with far less fanfare. Join us past the break for an exclusive look at the process, live from Red’s booth at NAB.

Red details Scarlet upgrades and trade-ins: $9,500 for Full Epic-X or Scarlet Dragon

Red details Scarlet upgrades and trade-ins: $9,500 for Full Epic-X or Scarlet Dragon

If you’re pining for a Dragon Sensor but don’t have an Epic-M or Epic-X in your collection, you might be in luck: Red just detailed an upgrade and trade-in path for owners of its entry-level Scarlet camera. By plunking down $9,500 and trading-in your Scarlet, you’ll nab a Full Epic-X with its new black body, and have the option upgrade it to a Full Epic Dragon through the standard update process, to boot. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, you could send in $9,500 instead and have your grey-bodied cam turned into a Scarlet Dragon, netting you the dynamic range and revamped color of the new sensor, replete with a maximum frame rate of 60 fps at 5k. Ready to move on up to gear that packs a bigger punch? Pre-orders kick off this Thursday, while upgrades are slated to commence in July.

Red performs Dragon sensor upgrades right on the NAB show floor (video)

Well, this is a trade-show first. Red Digital Cinema has made a name for itself by pushing the limits when it comes to motion picture camera technology, but the company’s “get it done” approach is even evident in the layout of its trade show booth this year. The team has constructed a full sterile lab here at NAB, where attendees can watch technicians upgrade Epic cameras with the new Dragon 6K sensor, which enables 6K shooting at 6144 x 3160 pixels and up to 100 frames-per-second, offering three additional stops over the Epic M-X. A wall of glass separates fans from the engineers in the clearly visible clean room, who are diligently going about their duties despite the constant gaggle of excited customers just a few feet away. Company spokesman Ted Schilowitz gave us a quick tour of the facility, where the $8,500+ sensor upgrades are now underway. Geek out with us in the video just past the break.

Giant Steampunk Dragon, Enough Said

I don’t know about you, but I need a giant steampunk dragon in my home. One that doesn’t actually breath fire, because, well… no more home if it were to breath fire in my living room. This is exactly why Daenerys Targaryen is always on the move. You just can’t keep these things indoors.

Anyway, this sculpture by Kreatworks measures 10.8 feet-tall, 9 feet-long and 10 feet wide. Yes, this is an amazingly big dragon. It is made out of recycled metal and auto parts and weighs over 880 pounds. It may just sink into the foundation of your home if your floors aren’t well reinforced. And you can’t easily move it to vacuum underneath.

The one seen here was sold. Of course. Because large ass dragons are in demand. If you want one for yourself, Kreatworks will custom make one for you for just $11,500 (USD). Totally worth it. I’m gonna start saving today – though I have no idea how I’ll get it through the front door.
