Posted in: Today's ChiliYou know what they say – if at first you do not succeed, try again. This is exactly what the folks over at Motorola has done, where they first began to introduce the Android 4.4 KitKat update to its new range of Verizon DROIDs approximately one month back – that is, December 19th, before Motorola was flooded by a fair number of reports that this particular update actually resulted in the bricking of user devices. Well, it does seem as though such issues have been fixed, as there is a new rollout that is happening for the Droid MAXX as well as Droid Ultra again.

Ever since Android 4.4 KitKat was released a few weeks back, people who own Android devices have been wondering exactly when the latest update is going to be released for their particular device. Since the initial launch for Nexus devices, KitKat has been making its way to other Android smartphones and tablets. Next in line are the Verizon exclusive Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini smartphones. All three receive Android 4.4 KitKat update today.
While Verizon has often been criticized for taking a lot of time when it comes to updates, the carrier was actually the first to release KitKat for Moto X. It seems that Motorola device are faring much better on the Big Red. That aside, this latest update brings Google’s latest OS refresh with a new full screen “immersive mode,” color emoji, new Hangouts app, updated dialer app as well as a lot of tweaks and improvements. Verizon is rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini in stages and over-the-air. So don’t panic if the update doesn’t immediately show up on your device. It may take some time before it becomes available in all regions. Download and installation will take place on the device itself, the entire process shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

Sharing the same specifications as the Droid Ultra, Motorola launched the Droid MAXX earlier this year. It has a 5 inch Super AMOLED 1,280x720p display, 10 megapixel rear camera, a 1.7GHz dualcore processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The biggest selling point of this smartphone is its massive 3,500mAh battery which according to the company is good for 48 hours of use after a single charge. If all this has enticed you to pick one up, Amazon is the way to go as the retailer is offering it for $12.49 with a two year contract.
There’s a caveat though to this deal. Only those subscribers who are willing to sign a new two year contract with Verizon will be able to purchase the Droid MAXX for $12.49 up front. Existing Verizon subscribers who want to upgrade their device will have to pay $99.99. Customers who don’t want to get attached to a service plan have the option to pay the entire cost up front, off contract the Droid MAXX costs $679.99 from Amazon. If you really are enticed by the discounted price and have made up your mind to purchase the smartphone, it would serve your own interest to check out our review of the Motorola Droid MAXX, we have paid special attention to the battery life claims.

The playing field has sort of leveled out with phones when it comes to specs. Most are fast enough, and most help you do the things you want to do easily. Most have good enough cameras. But battery remains final frontier
Motorola Droid Maxx review
Posted in: Today's ChiliMotorola’s Droid phones tend to arrive in packs. The original Droid RAZR was released just a couple months before the Droid RAZR Maxx — essentially, the RAZR with a larger battery. The next year, the company followed up with the Droid RAZR HD, the RAZR M and the RAZR Maxx HD, the latter of which promised longer battery life. Then, after a long silence, the OEM finally broke its silence this past July. At a press event co-headlined by Verizon, Motorola announced its first products since being acquired by Google, once again choosing to launch three devices. We’ve already taken a look at the Droid Ultra, and in this review we’ll focus on the largest of the trio, appropriately called the Droid Maxx.
Despite the fact that all three offer roughly the same mid-range specs, the Maxx stands out from the rest of its siblings thanks to its build, wireless-charging capability and — surprise! — its larger battery. But are these three factors important enough to justify paying $300 on-contract, when the Moto X, Droid Ultra and other flagships all cost $100 less? Let’s find out.%Gallery-slideshow83998%
