Canon Rebel T5i (EOS 700D) Is The Rebel Series’ New Flagship Camera

Canon Rebel T5i (EOS 700D) Is The Rebel Series New Flagship CameraCanon has announced a couple of cameras today – the PowerShot SX280 and the DSLR Rebel SL1 (also known as the EOS 100D in other markets). If that wasn’t enough, Canon has also taken the wraps off another DSLR camera, this one being the Rebel T5i, which is also referred to as the EOS 700D depending on which region you are in. The T5i will be the new flagship camera for Canon’s entry-level Rebel lineup of DSLRs and will sport an 18MP CMOS sensor with Canon’s DIGIC 5 processor under the hood. It will be capable of shooting ISO ranges between 100-12,800 (it can go up to 25,600 in H mode according to Canon), 5fps shooting speeds with 9 AF points.

The Rebel T5i will also feature a Live View mode as well as Full HD video capture in 1080p quality. Just like the SL1, the T5i will also come bundled with Creative Filters which allows the photographer to add filters to their photos after they have taken them. A bit of a novelty but we guess there are some who would rather do the post processing on their cameras rather than on their computers. The Rebel T5i will also come in three different packages for the photographer to choose from, with the body-only kit priced at $749.99, the version with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens kit at $899.99, and last but not least the $1,099.00 bundle that comes with an EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens kit.

The Canon Rebel T5i will be available in April alongside the Rebel SL1 and the PowerShot SX280. [Press release]

Canon unveils EOS Rebel SL1, the world's smallest DSLR, and Rebel T5i handson video

If you haven’t already come to grips with the fact that Canon won’t be releasing a mirrorless camera with DSLR-like performance, you might as well cut your losses now. Instead of replacing the sluggish EOS M with a compelling shooter, the company has decided to focus on shrinking its DSLR. The result, the EOS Rebel SL1, is the world’s smallest Digital SLR. SL stands for “super lightweight,” which seems appropriate, given that it tips the scale at just over 14 ounces, yet the camera still accommodates EOS lenses, such as the new EF-S 18-55mm IS STM optic that ships in the box. There’s an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 image processor, a 1.04M-dot fixed touchscreen, a new hybrid autofocus and standard 9-point AF. It offers sensitivity ranging from ISO 100-25,600, can capture 1080p video at 30 or 24 fps, and it includes a built-in mono mic, along with a stereo mic input jack on the side. Canon presents EOS Rebel SL1, world’s smallest and most lightweight dSLR camera

Canon has rolled out a dSLR camera earns the title of “world’s smallest and lighest,” offering a host of features you’d expect from Canon digital SLR paired with a body less than 5-inches wide and weighing less than 15 ounces. This makes it smaller than the EOS Rebel T4i by about 25-percent, and a good solution for those who need to take professional images without the burden of a hulking device.

You can see a visual representation of the SL1′s small size in the first image in the gallery below, which contrasts it with the T4i (represented by the blue outline). The SL1 measures in at 4.6-inches wide by 3.57-inches high by 2.74-inches thick, weighing 14.36 ounces. While the small size is one of its most alluring features, it also has a lot to offer in its hardware specs.

The Rebel SL1 has an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor with an ISO range from 100 to 12,800 for photos, as well as ISO to 6,400 for videos. There’s a DIGIC 5 Image Processor, giving the SL1 the power to snap 4-frames-per-second. The autofocus is a nine-point system utilizing a Hybrid CMOS AF II sensor, as well as Movie Servo AF for video recording. Around back there’s a 3-inch touchscreen Clear View LCD that supports multi-touch gestures.

Canon’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of Imaging Technologies and Communications Yuichi Ishizuki had this to say: “The EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR Camera represents a new era in DSLR versatility: ultra-portable, full-featured DSLR cameras. The EOS Rebel SL1 combines the high speed, high image quality and expanded shooting range of a DSLR camera, with the easy and fun usability of a point-and-shoot camera.”

The EOS Rebel SL1 is slated for release next month at $649.99 for the body and $799.99 for a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens.

Canon EOS Rebel SL1: The Shrunken Down Beginner DSLR You’ve Been Waiting For

Last year’s Canon T4i is a really excellent camera. But for all its whiz-bang features like a capacitive touchscreen and continuous autofocus while shooting video, it just didn’t feel special. A DSLR for beginners just doesn’t make as much sense when there are smaller mirrorless cameras that can achieve similar results. So Canon shrunk the T4i down. Here’s the mini version, Canon EOS Rebel SL1. More »

Canon’s tiny next-gen EOS Rebel spied, reportedly with modest specs to match

Canon's 2013era EOS Rebel reportedly spied, wouldn't be a revolution

It’s virtually an annual tradition for Canon to unveil new EOS Rebel DSLRs well before the summer hits, and we’re very nearly due for the next installment. It shouldn’t be a shock, then, that Digicam info claims to have both images and details of the EOS Kiss X7, which may be the smaller and lighter EOS-b. As you’d imagine, most of the differences versus the Rebel T4i appear to be more ergonomic than technical. While there’s mention of a second-generation hybrid autofocusing system, the most conspicuous changes appear to center on a space-saving design that moves the AF assist light to the opposite side. The 18-megapixel sensor, DIGIC 5 processor, ISO 25,600 sensitivity ceiling, 9-point autofocusing coverage and 3-inch LCD all appear to be retreads — the new model would be more to attract first-time owners than catch habitual upgraders. If the details are accurate, Canon would sell the Kiss X7 late in April for ¥79,000 ($828). There’s no word on plans for the camera’s US counterpart, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see an American edition arrive around the same time.

Canon EOS-b leaks ahead of April release

Images supposedly showing Canon’s upcoming EOS-b, as leaked earlier this week, have emerged, along with further hardware details about the compact DSLR. The 18-megapixel camera will tip the scales at 370g, according to specs passed to Japanese camera site Digicam info, and have a 1.04m dot 3-inch LCD together with supporting up to 4fps continuous shooting and Full HD video recording.

canon_eos-b_leak

That fits in with the chatter from a prematurely posted Best Buy listing which tipped us off to the EOS-b in the first place. The camera will apparently be called the EOS Kiss X7 in Japan, where it will have a price of 79,000 yen. Best Buy’s product page indicated a $799.99 US street price.

Other specifications include a 100 to 25,600 ISO range, and 9-point AF, using a hybrid CMOS AF system. Shutter speeds of 30-1/400 second will be supported, plus 1080p video recording. Storage is SD/SDHC/SDXC card, and the EOS-b uses Canon’s DIGIC5 processing.

We’ll have to wait until April to see the new EOS-b hit shelves, with an EF-S 18-55m zoom the kit lens. Given how close we are to that release date, we don’t expect to have to wait for long before Canon makes things official.

Canon Rumored To Announce Two New DSLR Cameras On The 21/22 March

Canon Rumored To Announce Two New DSLR Cameras On The 21/22 MarchEarlier today we reported that thanks to a Best Buy listing, an unknown Canon EOS-b DSLR camera was revealed. It has been speculated that this could be the new DSLR lineup that Canon has been rumored to announce in the near future, and thanks to the folks at Canon Rumors, it is possible that an announcement could be taking place on the 21st or 22nd of March. This was tipped off to them by one of their sources who claims that two new Canon EOS cameras will be announced on either of those dates. One of those cameras is said to be the EOS 100D, while the other camera remains unknown. However with only a few days to go until the 21st or 22nd of March, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see if the rumors pan out. We’ll take this with a grain of salt for now and suggest you do the same, but do check back with us then to see if there are any details to be shared.

Mysterious Canon EOS-b Camera Revealed In Best Buy Leak

Mysterious Canon EOS b Camera Revealed In Best Buy LeakRemember when there were rumors last week that Canon could be introducing a new line of DSLR cameras? While we’re still waiting for an official announcement of sorts, the folks at Best Buy have put up a listing for a Canon camera. Unfortunately it was not stated as to what the camera’s model was, nor were there any photos. However the listing did reveal a certain EOS-b 18MP camera with an EF-S 18-55mm zoom lens. Apart from that there was not much to go on. Could this be the rumored new DSLR that we have been hearing about?

For those who haven’t been following the camera news, there were rumors that Canon was planning a smaller DSLR lineup that would be in between the EOS M range of mirrorless cameras, and the Rebel series of entry-level DSLRs. These cameras are expected to pack the power of a DSLR camera into a smaller body, one that is smaller than the Rebel but larger than the EOS M. It is possible that this Best Buy listing could be it, and if it is, hopefully it is a sign that an announcement could be on the horizon.
