Canon’s unannounced $800 18MP EOS-b DSLR pops up on Best Buy’s website for pre-order

Canon's $800 18MP EOSb pops up on Best Buy's website for preorder, potentially a shrunken T4i

It looks as though Canon will have a new DSLR to announce very shortly, if a listing on Best Buy’s website is any indicator. The page offers us no images to ogle, but it betrays an unannounced 18-megapixel shooter dubbed the EOS-b, accompanied by an 18-55m lens kit and an $800 price tag. Canon Rumors notes a smaller footprint, trimming five ounces of fat and bulk off the T4i’s measurements. The camera specs are identical to the T4i and EOS M, too, but an optical viewfinder and pop-up flash make us wonder if it isn’t a pint-sized follow up to the T4i. You can look forward to a Digic 5 image processor, nine-point autofocus system, 3-inch 1.04K dot TFT-LCD touchscreen, four frames-per-second burst shooting, an ISO range from 100 to 12,800 with a high setting of 25,600 and HD video capture. There’s no word on when this APS-C shooter will officially be announced, but you can try your luck at placing a pre-order by clicking the Best Buy source link.

Rumored Upcoming Canon Rebel DSLR Specs Leaked

Rumored Upcoming Canon Rebel DSLR Specs LeakedRemember the other day we reported on rumors that Canon could be introducing a new line of DSLR cameras? These alleged cameras are supposed to be the in-between for the Rebel series of entry-level DSLRs, and the EOS M, Canon’s take on the mirrorless system. Thanks to the folks at Canon Watch, it looks like they might have gotten their hands on some rumored specs for this new series of DSLRs, although based on what we see, we’re not sure if an entirely new line of cameras needs to be introduced.

In any case according to the rumored specs, one of the cameras in this new lineup is said to sport an 18MP sensor which is supposedly the same sensor found on the EOS M and the EOS 650D. It will be powered by the DIGIC 5 processor, feature a touchscreen similar to the EOS M, 9 focus points, a hybrid CMOS auto-focus system, 98% viewfinder, 6fps shooting, ISO up to 25,600 with support for EF and EF-S lens and the ability to shoot HD video. In any case we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now and if the rumors are right, an announcement should not be too far off.

Canon Rumored To Introduce New Line Of DSLR Cameras

Canon Rumored To Introduce New Line Of DSLR CamerasOne of the downsides to a DSLR is that they tend to be heavy and bulky, at least when compared to compact cameras and the newer mirrorless camera systems. In fact when comparing Canon’s Rebel series of DSLR cameras to its more professional EOS 5D MK II, the latter is much larger by comparison, to that end we are now hearing rumors that Canon could be looking to introduce a new DSLR line that is not only smaller, but lighter than the current range of Rebel DSLR cameras. The Rebel series of DSLR cameras is basically Canon’s entry-level cameras for those looking to dive into photography using a DSLR. While not particularly fancy, they get the job done at an affordable price.

According to the rumor, this alleged new line of Canon DSLR cameras is expected to be the in-between for the Rebel lineup and the EOS M, giving photographers the performance of a DSLR, but in a much smaller and compact body. We’re not sure how credence we would give to this rumor, not to mention that smaller DSLR cameras don’t necessarily make them more compact; in fact it might be even harder to hold and use if it were smaller. Either way there’s no telling if and when Canon will launch this alleged new line of cameras, but what do you guys think?

Nikon D7100 Could See A $100 Discount On LaunchThe Nikon D7100 was announced just last month and if you were thinking about getting your hands on it, it seems that you could be looking at a possible $100 discount come 14th of March, which is when the camera is expected to start shipping. Unfortunately this purported discount will only apply to the camera with the kit lens (18-105mm), so if you were hoping to get the discount for the body-only version, you’d be out of luck. Priced at $1,596.95, if the rumors are true, you should be able to pick it up for $1,496.95 which we guess seems like a pretty good deal. This isn’t the first time Nikon has announced such a deal. In fact they did something similar with the Nikon 1 V2 last year, so it wouldn’t be completely out of the question if they did something similar with the D7100. Either way don’t get your hopes up just yet, but be sure to keep your eyes peeled and mark the 14th of March down on your calendars.

Pentax Rumored To Announce New DSLRs Possibly This MonthIf Canon and Nikon cameras aren’t your cup of tea, then perhaps Pentax might be a brand worth taking a look at because according to the rumors, it seems that Pentax could be getting ready to announce as many as 5 new DSLR cameras as early as this month. Supposedly these cameras will range from low-end around $400 to high-end at $2,000. It is unclear if Pentax’s full-frame camera will be announced, because if not $2,000 might be a bit high of a price to ask for an APS-C camera. In any case we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re in the market for a new DSLR camera, check back with us at a later date and hopefully we will have more news to share with you guys.

Canon Rumored To Announce New DSLR At End Of March

Canon Rumored To Announce New DSLR At End Of MarchIf you’re a Canon fan then you might be interested to learn that according to the folks at Canon Rumors, it seems that come towards the end of March, Canon could be making an announcement for a new DSLR camera. Unfortunately it is not clear as to what camera Canon will be announcing, but some are speculating that the announcement might be related to a possible successor to the Canon EOS 60D, the EOS 70D.

While the exact specifications of the EOS 70D have yet to be revealed, the existence of the camera was confirmed by Canon’s Chief Executive at the start of February. A timeframe was not given but earlier rumors back in 2012 suggested that the EOS 70D along with other Canon DSLR cameras (7D MK II and 700D) could be seeing an announcement in 2013, so for all we know this alleged announcement at the end of March could be for either of these cameras. We’ll be taking this with a grain of salt, but check back with us then to see if there are any details to be had.

Aptina and Sony crosslicense each other's camera patents, Nikon smiles in the corner

Sometimes, it’s the behind-the-scenes deals that matter the most. See Aptina’s newly signed patent cross-licensing agreement with Sony as an example: the pact lets the two imaging veterans use each other’s know-how in camera sensors for everything from dedicated cameras through to smartphones and TVs. We know customers of both companies will be glad to see technology spreading beyond corporate borders, but we have a feeling that Nikon will be the happiest. When Nikon is using Aptina sensors in its 1 series mirrorless cameras and Sony sensors in its DSLRs, it’s likely to reap the benefits, regardless of which sensor maker got the better deal.
