PS4 DualShock 4 Light Bar Dim Option Coming In Next Update

The Sony PlayStation 4 brought with it a significantly revamped DualShock 4 controller. There’s a light bar on the controller itself, and while it does provide a really cool effect, it does feed on the controller’s battery. Some gamers would prefer to cut down on the novelty as much as they can if it helps extend the DualShock 4′s battery life even if in the slightest. If you’re one of those gamers, fret not, Sony has a fix in mind. Head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios at Sony, Shuhei Yoshida, has confirmed at the Game Developers Conference 2014 today that a software fix will bring the option to dim the PS4 DualShock 4 light bar.

If you were lucky enough to get your hands on a PlayStation 4 when it released last week, you’ll know just how much more comfortable the DualShock 4 is compared to previous versions of the DualShock controller. This has probably left you wondering how long it’ll take until you can use your DualShock 4 with other devices. We learned last month the DualShock 4 works with the PlayStation 3 as long as it’s connected via USB, but what about PCs? It looks like the extremely short wait is over as PCSX2 forum member InhexSTER has created a tool that would allow the DualShock 4 to work with Windows games. (more…)

PS4 DualShock 4 Controller Compatible With Windows For ‘Basic Functions’

PS4 DualShock 4 Controller Compatible With Windows For Basic Functions

Sony’s DualShock 4 controller, which will launch alongside the PlayStation 4, is going to be compatible with Windows without a driver for “basic functions.” This was confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida, who is the president of worldwide studios at Sony Computer Entertainment. He made the confirmation via a tweet, as a reply to a question asking him if Sony would release a driver to make DualShock 4 compatible with Windows. Yoshida replied that “the analog sticks and buttons will work just fine,” and followed up by saying that the controller will have compatibility “for basic functions” out of the box.

Yoshida didn’t elaborate exactly what he means by basic functions. There’s something else that needs to be elaborated as well. It a well known fact that many non-Microsoft controllers register as Xbox controllers with Windows due to the Xinput API, it is not known for sure right now if the DualShock 4 will or will not register as DS4 with Windows. in a response to a similar question, Yoshida replied that :wait for field report after the launch.” Hopefully this will be clarified once Sony launches the PlayStation 4. Sony’s next generation console is all set to be launched, it will start reaching customers who’ve already placed their pre-orders next month.

The touchpad, speaker and share button all get their own time during the video which helps in explaining what each does and how developers plan to utilize these features in their games.
