Nintendo Partners With Best Buy To Allow Fans Access To Unreleased Wii U Games During E3 2013

Nintendo may not be holding one of its global press conferences at this year’s E3, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it should be seen as a bad thing, even though its Wii U has yet to sell as well as the […]

Nintendo reveals E3 game demo Best Buy plans and SEGA Sonic exclusive

Nintendo is aiming to democratize E3 2013 next week, partnering with Best Buy in the US and Canada to give access to unreleased games to those who can’t attend the annual gaming event. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed the plans at the tail-end of a Nintendo Direct presentation; “this year,” Fils-Aime said of E3, “it’s all about the games.” That will include an exclusive title with SEGA from the Sonic series.

Whereas previous E3 appearances have seen Nintendo show off new hardware, Fils-Aime said, the show this time around will be focused solely on new titles. Alongside the official announcements, Best Buy locations in the US and Canada will have demo stations set up in multiple stores so as to give gamers a chance to try well in advance of when they’ll be able to buy.

Exact details on which locations and which games will be participating are unknown at this stage. However, Nintendo’s focus on new titles hardly comes as a surprise, given the company has previously blamed a shortage of games for 3DS and Wii U for underwhelming sales.

What there won’t be is a big E3 press conference. It’s not the first time Nintendo has tried to whet appetites with some sneaky pre-release access. Back in November, ahead of sales of the Wii U, various US retailers offered experience kiosks where the new console could be tried out.

Still, developer confidence in the Wii U particularly is looking patchy. EA, for instance, confirmed this week that it has nothing in the pipeline for the console.

The Nintendo Direct also revealed some release dates for upcoming titles, including Donkey Kong and the Legend of Zelda. SEGA, meanwhile, has inked an exclusive deal with Nintendo for the next Sonic the Hedgehog title – Sonic Lost World – which will only be available on 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo Details ‘Wii U Software Showcase’ For E3 2013

Nintendo Details Wii U Software Showcase For E3 2013

Nintendo announced a few weeks ago it would not be holding a global press conference at this year’s E3, instead choosing to hold smaller, more direct events that would invite western journalists to check out some of their upcoming titles. We now have more information as to what Nintendo is planning exactly according to an E3 invitation received by Ubergizmo.

The invitation sent from Nintendo says it will give media “the chance to get closer to the games through a unique hands-on experience” prior to E3′s official start in what the company is calling will be its “Wii U Software Showcase.” On the morning of June 11, Nintendo’s most iconic game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo of America’s COO Reggie Fils-Aime will take part in a short presentation at 10:30 a.m. PDT, followed by a gameplay and Q&A session starting at 11 a.m. PDT. Microsoft Sends Out Invites For Pre-E3 Xbox Press Event On June 10

Microsoft Sends Out Invites For Pre E3 Xbox Press Event On June 10

The next Xbox is expected to be unveiled on May 21 in Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond, Washington, but that it looks like the company will have more to share with the public outside of its next-generation Xbox as they have just sent out invites to its pre-E3 Xbox press event, which will be held on June 10.

Since the May 21 event is most likely focus on the next Xbox and what it’s capable of, similar to what we saw Sony do with its February event where it highlighted the PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s pre-E3 event may be used as a way to discuss its plans for its next Xbox on a more broader scale as the company has typically used its press event to highlight a broad range of its upcoming products and notable software. In other words, its May 21 event will most likely be geared towards the hardcore fans, while its E3 press event will be geared towards all gamers as well as those who use their Xbox as an entertainment hub. 2K Games Won’t Be Attending E3 2013

2K Games Wont Be Attending E3 2013

It looks as though Nintendo isn’t the only major publisher to diminish their presence at E3 this year as it turns out 2K Games, which is the publisher behind Borderlands 2 and BioShock Infinite, won’t be attending the show at all this year.

The news comes directly from 2K Games as they revealed on their forums they won’t have a booth at E3 this year, and will instead be working hard on its upcoming new titles for release. The forum post also plugged the company’s YouTube and Twitch channels to encourage gamers who are looking for additional information on upcoming titles to follow them on these sites. (more…)

Nintendo Won’t Hold An E3 2013 Press Conference To Focus On Smaller, Direct Events

Nintendo Wont Hold An E3 2013 Press Conference To Focus On Smaller, Direct Events

We think it’s safe to say considering how Nintendo’s Wii U has been performing lately, the world will be tuning into their E3 press conference this year in anticipation to hear what exactly they have planned to turn things around for the company. That was probably the plan for many gamers around the world, but it looks like they’ll have to look for their Nintendo information elsewhere as the company has announced they won’t be holding a press conference at this year’s E3.

The news came directly from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata during a financial results briefing earlier today, where he says instead of holding a presentation targeted at an international audience, the company plans to hold smaller events specifically directed to different regions. At this year’s E3, Nintendo will focus specifically on its software lineup for the U.S market as they attempt to introduce a new presentation style for this year’s show. (more…)

Nintendo won’t host a keynote at E3 2013, plans small but focused hands-on events instead

A lot of folks have been wondering just how Nintendo’s keynote was going to outshine the launch of two competitor consoles at this year’s E3. Turns out, it won’t. During Nintendo’s Japanese financial results briefing, company President Satoru Iwata revealed the company wouldn’t be hosting a Keynote at E3 this year. “We decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past,” Iwata explained. “Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the US market.” Nintendo will be hosting two events, actually — one for distributors and another for the media. The company president says he won’t personally be speaking at either event.

In lieu of the traditional keynote livestream, Nintendo will be releasing Nintendo Direct streams to deliver region specific news to Japanese and overseas fans. It’s a bold, and perhaps dangerous move for the Japanese gaming giant. While bowing out of the keynote avoids the yearly squabble over who “won” E3 in the eyes of critics, it also forfeits the opportunities a large presentation provides, namely promotion. Excitable fans may have to wait until Nintendo Spaceworld to get their hype-fix.
