Been aching to find out what Sony’s PlayStation 4 actually looks like? So have we. Fortunately, Engadget’s Ben Gilbert and Joystiq’s Alexander Sliwinski are right outside of the company’s E3 press event, happily speculating on the box’s potential shape — not to mention what games we might see for it today. Once you’ve purchased that hot new Xbox One, you’ve got to have a couple of accessories to go along with it. Naturally Microsoft has thought of that, as it just announced a new version of its Play and Charge Kit plus a refreshed Chat Headset to accompany the next-gen console. As with the previous iteration, the Kit bundles in a controller-compatible lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack plus a cable that’ll charge the gamepad when connected to the console. Microsoft claims it can juice up twice as fast as its predecessor and is able to keep charging during gameplay or standby. You can either get the Kit by itself or as part of a controller bundle. The Chat Headset appears to be the same as it was before; it’s a wired mono headset with wideband digital audio and a unidirectional microphone. We’re still looking for details on pricing and availability (plus a picture or two), but we’ll let you know more details as soon we do.

Microsoft held its E3 2013 press conference today, and as expected, they showed off a lot of new Xbox One games, including Metal Gear Solid V, Forza Motorsports 5, Dead Rising 3, and The Witcher 3 just to name a few. The company also threw a curve ball at us and revealed a redesigned Xbox
It looks like the next generation video game console war is about to heat up, with the Microsoft Xbox One announced at E3 2013, bringing along with it a whole lot more information compared to what we heard not too long ago when Microsoft presented a glimpse of the next generation console. Here is the quick skinny of things – the Xbox One will be arriving in the US later this November, where it will be accompanied by a $499 price tag which could very well make it a decent holiday season purchase. This also means you have roughly five more months or so to save up for an Xbox One if you desperately want to give its launch titles a go, too.
There is a number of titles that will be released at launch for the Xbox One, and Microsoft kicked off this year’s E3 event with the viewing of the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer, featuring a younger Snake in all sorts of interesting scenarios, including riding on a horse. Revolver Ocelot does not have his eye patch just yet, meaning he is a whole lot younger. Other titles at launch which one can expect would be the surefire sales winner, Halo, as well as Battlefield 4. If you want to play the role of a Roman general leading a garrison into battle against the barbarians, then you will be pleased to know that Ryse: Son of Rome would offer such an opportunity. Perhaps the decline of the Roman Empire was due to the fact that they could not spell “rise”. I jest!
Apart from the Xbox One, folks who prefer to take the tried and tested route would be able to enjoy an updated Xbox 360 model, where the new design has already started to ship today to retailers across the US, UK, Canada, Ireland and Australia, with other Xbox regions receiving the revamped model in the coming months, further extending the life cycle and legacy of the Xbox 360 for a while more. The new Xbox 360 does seem to be a looker regardless of the angle you view it from, and it will not see a pricing tier change as the 4GB, 250GB and 4GB Kinect Bundle will still go for $199.99, $299.99, and $299.99, respectively.

Closing out the E3 event today was the news many had been waiting to see confirmed — the pricing and the availability of the Xbox One. When we were first introduced to the Xbox One, we heard about the hardware. Today, at Microsoft’s E3 keynote, it was all about the games. We had a look at Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, a One-exclusive Killer Instinct reboot and Ryse: Son of Rome (both an exclusive and a launch title). We also learned that Minecraft would be getting some expanded multiplayer options when it hits the new console, and checked out the “open-world shooter” Sunset Overdrive. That wasn’t all: we caught some stunning footage of Forza Motorsport 5, as well as Quantum Break (exclusive), Crimson Dragon, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and zombie survival game Dead Rising 3 (arriving “this holiday” as a One exclusive). We saw some hectic action in Battlefield 4, which will have a “Second Assault” DLC available to Xbox One users first, and spied Titanfall, another exclusive landing “spring 2014.” You can also make your own games in Project Spark, and there are a bunch of trailers for the titles mentioned above available now at the YouTube source link, including some for games that weren’t featured on-stage.
