EA Thinks Battlefield 4 Fiasco Did Not Hurt The Battlefield Brand

EA Thinks Battlefield 4 Fiasco Did Not Hurt The Battlefield BrandttlEA’s Battlefield 4 has been plagued with a variety of issues since its launch. In fact it got so bad that there were several lawsuits that are being planned to be filed against EA, claiming that EA knew about the game’s problems even before the launch, but yet went ahead and acted like everything was fine.

In any case safe to say that a potentially great game has been marred by the various bugs that have been plaguing the game ever since. Will EA ever be able to shake off this bad image and move on? Well EA certainly seems to think so, and they believe that despite Battlefield 4’s flaws, it has not damaged the Battlefield brand. (more…)

Original Dungeon Keeper Goes Free This Weekend On GOG

Original Dungeon Keeper Goes Free This Weekend On GOGIf you grew up playing games in the 1990s, you might recall a rather classic title known as Dungeon Keeper which was developed by Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog Productions. If you’re wondering why the title is so familiar, it is because EA has recently decided to breathe new life into the franchise by releasing a remake for mobile device, which unfortunately has not been well-received by gamers namely due to its aggressive free-to-play model which basically keeps reminding or encouraging players to make in-app purchases at almost every turn of the game.

That being said, the good news is that if you wanted to relive the classic and original game minus the annoying reminders to make in-app purchases, you’re in luck because GOG has announced that the original 1997 Dungeon Keeper game will be free for download this weekend. If you’re not a registered GOG member, you should probably go ahead and register yourselves, click on a link on the site’s homepage to redeem your voucher, and you should be good to go. The game will also include the Deeper Dungeons expansion. In a statement released to Polygon, GOG revealed that this free giveaway is thanks to a collaboration between EA and GOG, so perhaps EA is trying to buy some good faith by releasing the classic which we guess we can’t really complain about. So, who’s looking to relive some classic games over the weekend?

Policed-themed Battlefield Could See 2014 Release [Rumor]

Policed themed Battlefield Could See 2014 Release [Rumor]According to our report from earlier, it has been suggested that EA could be looking to push out a new Battlefield game, but instead of it being military-themed, which it has been for the most part, the new rumored Battlefield title is said to be a police-themed game which should make things rather interesting. Now according to additional rumors, it seems that we can look forward to said police-themed Battlefield game as soon as 2014! According to the reports, developer Visceral Games (who is also the developer of Dead Space) will be the ones heading the project which has been given the codename “Havana” and is set for a 2014 release.

DICE, who worked on Battlefield 4, would then be free to help develop a new Battlefield game that would see a 2015 release, which some have speculated to be Battlefield 5. In the past DICE has stated that they would not be able to release a new Battlefield game every year, so for the rumors to suggest that a new developer would be hired to help create an in-between sort of game while DICE works on the next flagship Battlefield title does make some sense. Visceral Games has also recently hired FPS developers for a “next-gen shooter” which feels like more evidence that a new Battlefield game could be in the works for 2014. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.

Dungeon Keeper’s Creator Weighs In On EA’s Version Of The Game

Dungeon Keepers Creator Weighs In On EAs Version Of The GameIt was recently that EA decided to release a remake of the popular game from the 1990s, Dungeon Keeper. The game featured a slightly different play style and newer graphics which we guess is to be expected, and also adopted the popular free-to-play model. For those unfamiliar, free-to-play is basically where the game itself is free to download, but offers in-game transactions where gamers can purchase things like item upgrades, costumes, and more which in some cases gives the player an advantage. Unfortunately not everyone was too thrilled about how EA adopted the free-to-play model, which some have described as being very aggressive.

Recently Dungeon Keeper’s original developer, Peter Molyneux, has weighed in on the issue himself, although his comments were rather diplomatic but at the same time drives the point home as well. Speaking with the BBC, Molyneux was quoted as saying, “I felt myself turning round saying, ‘What? This is ridiculous. I just want to make a dungeon. I don’t want to schedule it on my alarm clock for six days to come back for a block to be chipped,’” before following up with, “I don’t think they got it quite right, the balance between keeping it familiar to the fans that were out there but fresh enough and understandable enough for this much bigger mobile audience.” What do you guys think?

EA Responds To Dungeon Keeper’s Criticisms

EA Responds To Dungeon Keepers CriticismsDungeon Keeper was a game originally developed back in 1997 by Peter Molyneux and was designed to be a game in which you play as the bad guy, where you build a dungeon in an attempt to keep invading heroes out. We’re sure many gamers have spent countless hours on the original game back in the day which is why many were excited when EA released a remake of the game onto mobile devices. Unfortunately it looks like EA might have taken the free-to-play model a bit too far, leading to many criticizing the company for it. (more…)

Titanfall on the PC to Require EA Origin

There are quite a few irritations when it comes to PC gaming. Most notable are all of the anti-piracy measures that plague games and make it hard for gamers to enjoy what they spent their money on. It’s also very annoying as a PC gamer when a game requires you to use an internet connection constantly and to install other software to play.

While most gamers don’t mind Valve’s Steam so much, but some of the other software out there is much more intrusive and unstable. Case in point is EA’s Origin. One of the most anticipated PC games of the year is Titanfall. The head of Respawn studios, the developer behind the game, recently tweeted a disappointing response to a question asked by a gamer.

The question was simple, “does it require Origin?” The answer was simple as well, “yes it does.” The Titanfall PC beta will also require Origin for players to participate. The game also requires a 64-bit Windows OS and it has to be Windows 7 or higher. Since I’ve run Vista for years and it works fine for me (don’t judge) I have no intention of upgrading for Titanfall.

One of the more anticipated games for 2014 is the EA title Titanfall. The minimum specs for computers to play the game were announced yesterday. Those minimum specifications for the … Continue reading

Police-themed Battlefield Game Could Be In The Works

Police themed Battlefield Game Could Be In The WorksThe Battlefield franchise has seen different iterations throughout its life, but for the most part it has been military themed where the same can be said for its rival, Activision’s Call of Duty. That being said, EA has been receiving a fair amount of flak recently over the bugs in Battlefield 4 which proved to be a headache for gamers trying to play, but assuming EA really does learn from its lessons, would you still be interested in future Battlefield titles? And would you be more interested if it departed from its military theme and went with something else instead?

According to a report from Polygon, EA has been laying off some of their staff from Ghost Games, and as for full-time employees, they have been given the ultimatum which is to either leave the company with compensation, or stay on to help with development of a Battlefield spin-off developed by Visceral Games that will apparently be police-themed. Unfortunately apart from that little tidbit, not much else is known about this alleged Battlefield spin-off, but what do you guys think? A police-themed Battlefield would definitely be a departure from the military-theme that gamers have gotten used to, and could even prove to be a welcome departure as well, but what say you? Would a police-theme Battlefield game be of interest to you?
