EA Stocks Dip After Announcing Halt On Battlefield 4 DLCs

EA Stocks Dip After Announcing Halt On Battlefield 4 DLCsEarlier we had reported that EA had announced that they will be putting a halt on future Battlefield 4 DLCs until they can fix the game, at least get it into a more playable condition. This is due to the numerous complaints and criticisms that EA and DICE have been receiving over how buggy the game is, which EA’s VP admitted himself. Well it turns out that while EA’s decision to halt future DLCs might sit well with gamers and showed that the company was dedicated to making and publishing great games, investors of the company seemed to think other, as EA’s stocks took a dip after they announced their decision.

This is according SeekingAlpha who found that the company’s stock went down by 7.3% following the announcement, which we can only assume did not sit well with investors who would rather see the company move forward with newer products, which in turns would generate more revenue for the company. While this might seem a bit superficial, it could have implications on the future of EA and DICE games if the company is unable to meet its December quarter forecasts which could result in a delay of titles such as Star Wars: Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge 2.

EA To Halt Future Battlefield 4 DLCs Until The Game Is Fixed

EA To Halt Future Battlefield 4 DLCs Until The Game Is FixedWe have been hearing reports of how buggy EA’s Battlefield 4 is, to the extent where EA’s VP actually admitted it himself while vowing to ensure that future EA games will be thoroughly tested to ensure the best experience possible. Well the good news is that EA appears to be taking these bugs pretty seriously as they have released a statement to the folks at Kotaku, claiming that future Battlefield 4 DLCs will not be released until they have sorted out the issues that they are having with the game first.

However in the meantime, EA will be releasing the Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack as they had already promised gamers a release date, and also because the expansion was already in the final stages of development, which didn’t make much sense to hold it back any longer than necessary. According to EA’s statement, “We’re not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4. We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel your pain. We will not stop until this is right.” While this means that Battlefield 4 players might be stuck with the same content for a while, we suppose it’s better than having to play through new, but buggy, content, right?

Desert Strike Trademarks Registered By EA

Desert Strike Trademarks Registered By EADo you remember Desert Strike? That was a fun game while it was around all those years ago. Well, the good times might roll back, as we have discovered that EA has already registered trademarks for Desert Strike. Of course, it goes without saying that trademark registrations are not 100% confirmation that a project is in tow, but one can always hope, can’t they? EA’s most recent filing of two applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office do raise such hopes that we could see a reboot of Desert Strike coming our way – in Full HD graphics too, hopefully.

The two registrations happen to be a service mark and a trade mark, and the two of them refer just to “Desert Strike”. Before we continue, here is a little background information on what Desert Strike was – in the early 1990s, that game arrived in the form of an isometric helicopter shoot ‘em up that rolled out on the Sega Mega Drive, SNES and Commodore Amiga. You played the role of an Apache helicopter pilot in the middle of the Gulf War, where your missions included the capture of enemies, hostage rescue situations, and even protecting the President of the United States. Sounds like perfect fodder for a 21st century game, no?

EA’s VP Admits Better Bug Testing Is Needed For Battlefield 4 And Other Games

EAs VP Admits Better Bug Testing Is Needed For Battlefield 4 And Other GamesWhile the Battlefield franchise is a pretty popular one, the latest title in the series has been riddled with bugs and crashes that have frustrated many gamers to no end. Apparently one of the reasons behind the game’s many bugs is due to EA wanting to rush out the game before Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts was released. Assuming that was true, we have to say that their plan might have backfired on them.  In any case while we’re sure EA and DICE are working to squash all the bugs plaguing the game, EA Studios’ executive vice president, Patrick Söderlund, confessed that the studio needed to do better when it came to ironing out bugs, not just for Battlefield 4, but the rest of their games in general.

Speaking to The Guardian, “Listen, we have to do a better job of getting games into the market that are as bug-free as possible.” However he went on to admit that catching every single bug is impossible, given that games these days are starting to become more complex. “I wish I could day that we will, but I don’t think we’ll ever catch everything. I think we’ve got better at it, but I certainly think we’re not where we need to be in terms of getting games to market that offer a friction-free experience.” Not exactly words of confidence, although there is some truth in it. In the meantime Söderlund asks gamers to remain patient while they work on releasing updates to address whatever issues there might be in their games.

“I think if there are two people screaming at you out of a thousand, you can ask for patience, but if there are 500 out of 1,000, you’ve got to change something, right? You’ve got a problem.”

EA Canada Working On Open World Star Wars Game

EA Canada Working On Open World Star Wars GameIf you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise, you might be interested to learn that EA Canada could be working on a new Star Wars game for the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One. The game is expected to be an open world title, which we could be like akin to the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5 by Rockstar. This is according to several job postings, such as animation directors and executive producers. As it stands EA has a decade long licensing deal with Disney for the Star Wars franchise, so it wouldn’t come as a complete surprise that they would be interested in releasing a new Star Wars game, but apart from being an open world title, not much else is known at the moment.

Visceral Games also has a Star Wars title in the works and it has been speculated that EA Canada could be working together with them on it as well, as one of the job listings has called for someone with experience in “multi-site development”. In any case there’s no word on when this game will see a release, but given their current job listings, it looks like the balls has only begun rolling, suggesting that it could be a while before we see anything concrete, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for more info that might pop up along the way. So, who else is looking forward to a new Star Wars title?

This game is very different from the others in the PvZ franchise. Garden Warfare is a third-person shooter supporting multiplayer action. The game is based on the Frostbite 3 game engine and will hit the Xbox 360 and Xbox One game consoles on February 18 in North America.

The game will land in Europe on February 20. A PC version of the game will be coming later. The game has three modes and over ten maps for gamers to play. Two of the modes support 12 vs. 12 player versus battles. The other mode is a four-play co-op mode. The game will cost $39.99(USD) on the Xbox One and $29.99 on the Xbox 360 (which is kind of stupid that they’re charging more for the Xbox One version).
