DICE Recommends Xbox 360 Battlefield 4 Players Install 14GB Of Content Onto Their Drives

Prior to Grand Theft Auto 5′s release, we learned Rockstar Games would require both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players to install 8GB of data onto their hard drives prior to being able to play the game. This seemed like a pretty crazy amount of data to be installed, although EA has upped the ante as they will give Xbox 360 players the option to install 14GB of data onto their hard drives. (more…)

EA cancels college football title for 2014 amid ongoing legal disputes, lack of NCAA support (update)

EA cancels college football title for 2014 amid ongoing legal disputes, lack of NCAA support

A few months back, EA Sports announced that the 2014 installment of its wildly popular college football franchise wouldn’t carry the NCAA label after the governing body chose not to renew its licensing contract. Today, the gaming outfit has announced that there will not be a campus-packed release… at all. Admitting that the choice was “profoundly disappointing,” GM of American Football for EA Sports Cam Weber cited lawsuits with student-athletes over the use of their likeness without compensation as a cause for the decision. Of course, this is compounded by the NCAA and a number of conferences (Big Ten, SEC and Pac-12 included) no longer supporting the game. “The ongoing legal issues combined with increased questions surrounding schools and conferences have left us in a difficult position – one that challenges our ability to deliver an authentic sports experience,” Weber wrote in a blog post. EA also pledged a commitment to NCAA Football 14 that’s already in consoles of the faithful where, no matter what, Johnny Football is still celebrating the same way.

Update: Moments after EA posted the above news, the company announced that it and the CLC (Collegiate Licensing Company) had settled “all claims” with Sam Keller and Ed O’Bannon for using their names and more. This leaves the NCAA as the remaining defendant in the lawsuit over use of player likenesses. For more on the filing, consult the coverage links that follows.

EA Denies Apple Paid Them ‘Truckload Of Money’ For Temporary Plants vs Zombies 2 iOS Exclusivity

EA Denies Apple Paid Them Truckload Of Money For Temporary Plants vs Zombies 2 iOS Exclusivity It was just yesterday when we brought you word that EA allegedly touted that Apple actually paid them a ‘truckload of money’ in order to delay the release of Plants vs Zombies 2 on the Android platform so that it will remain as an iOS exclusive for some time. That was a little hard to swallow actually, and even if it were to be true, what does EA gain from such an admission? Well, in under 24 hours, games publisher EA has stepped forward to deny such claims, and in an official statement they mentioned that “A comment from an internal meeting taken out of context has created an unfortunate misunderstanding. Reports of a paid relationship between Apple and EA are factually inaccurate, and we apologise for any confusion.”

Not only that, Apple also did issue a denial on the situation, and that nary a single cent has exchanged hands throughout the episode. Apparently, this particular misunderstanding came about after Frank Gibeau, head of EA Labels, was quoted to have said, “Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android version [of Plants vs Zombies 2].” Taken out of context or otherwise? You be the judge. This just goes to show how important one’s words are regardless of the setting.

EA Denies Receiving ‘Truckload Of Money’ From Apple

EA Denies Receiving Truckload Of Money From Apple

Plants vs Zombies, an Electronic Arts title, is a popular mobile game. The sequel was released for iOS devices back in August, an Android version is yet to be released. Earlier today we reported that Apple was alleged to have given EA “a truckload of money” to hold off on releasing Plants vs Zombies 2 for Android. Electronic Arts, in an official statement, says that no money was exchanged between Apple and EA for this purpose.

Head of EA Labels Frank Gibeau is rumored to have said in an internal meeting that Apple paid a “truckload” of money, however Cupertino has flat out denied any involvement in this matter. EA claims that the comment from an internal meeting has been “taken out of context,” adding that “reports of a paid relationship between Apple and EA are factually inaccurate.” Now its not unusual for some games to be exclusive to a particular platform of device, marketing agreements which allow this are routinely made. So for all we know, Apple and EA might just have entered into a marketing agreement, though none is confirming if this is indeed true. So even if you don’t believe the quote was taken out of context, it has already been rumored today that Plants vs Zombies 2 for Android might be released next month.
