Prior to the release of the Microsoft Xbox One, there were several instances in which a white Xbox One version was spotted. It turns out that the white Xbox One is an employee-only special edition console meaning that regular folks like you and me won’t be able to get our hands on it.
Well it turns out that if you absolutely must have the white Xbox One, an eBay auction has been sighted in which the seller is putting up the white Xbox One for sale where it is currently priced at a whopping $2,700, which is a little over five times what the Xbox One is currently worth ($499). White Xbox One Spotted On eBay For $2,700 original content from Ubergizmo.
People just seem to get a little crazy when it comes to Flappy Bird. Forget about how frustrating the game is. I’m talking about stuff like putting phones with Flappy Bird on eBay that sell for way too much money. Or the fact that somebody was inspired enough to make this or this.
Now some crackpot on eBay is selling this original Flappy Bird drawing for $1,000. I can’t help but wonder if anyone is crazy enough to buy it.
It was hand drawn by the seller, who says that the funds will go to his “collage” education. So you can see that he really does need to attend “collage”. It is Flappy Bird art and it is original. Wanna hang this on your wall for a grand? Didn’t think so.

Skype has just launched a new beta version of their service which includes High Quality Video. That means you can have video calls with friends and family thousands of miles away, but it’ll be so clear that it will seem like they are right there with you. They’ve offered video calling for quite some time, but now the quality of the video calling has just gotten a lot better – no more fuzzy movements! Because it is high quality, there are some requirements that you’ll need to meet before you can use the service which will be explained below.
The most notable features of the new high quality video calling are:
- Resolution up to 640×480
- Cross-platform: Works between Windows and Mac OS X
Because it is high quality, there are some requirements for using the service. Be sure you are able to meet all of the requirements before trying it, otherwise it will not work. First you’ll need a webcam capable of taking high quality video (examples below) and obviously, both people will need a webcam. Secondly, you must have a dual-core processor in your computer. The last requirement is that you need to have a good amount of bandwidth. Skype recommends 380 KB and above.
Examples of what’s considered a “High Quality Video Webcam” are the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and the Logitech Quickcam Pro for Notebooks. Skype sells both for $99.99, and they both feature high definition 2.0 MP video and 8 MP photos. You can buy these cameras from other places like Amazon for cheaper though. Amazon has the QuickCam Pro 9000 for $84.00 and the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks for $85.49.
Despite the recent talk that Skype wasn’t a great buy for eBay, they have come a long ways since they first launched. Originally they just offered “low quality” calls, then came the mediocre video calls, and now the high quality video calls. If you meet the requirements that we talked about earlier, feel free to download the latest beta version of Skype and give it a try!

The new year has just begun and if 2008 is anything like 2007, we should expect a bunch of acquisitions in the tech world. As I heard someone say recently, acquisitions should be considered the lottery for geeks, except the odds of “winning” are much higher than the actual lottery. Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and others have been swiping up start-up after start-up faster than we can keep track! Today’s MyFive looks at some of the most significant acquisitions of 2007.
- Last.fm acquired by CBS
Last.fm was acquired by CBS for $280 million back in May of 2007. CBS acquired them as part of their plan to attract a “younger crowd.” Last.fm is a site that provides users with a personalize radio streaming experience. It has a social aspect to it which helps to draw users in. - Photobucket acquired by Fox Interactive
Photobucket was acquired by Fox Interactive Media for $250 million back in May of 2007. This came after Photobucket and Fox owned MySpace couldn’t stop feuding. - FeedBurner acquired by Google
It’s hard to believe that Feedburner was acquired by Google in 2007 because it seemed as though it had happened long before. The price for this startup was $100 million and was official at the beginning of June. Given the popularity of FeedBurner and number of sites that use the service, we thought that the $100 million price was a little on the low side. Shortly after the acquisition came the option for all users to “Go Pro for Free.” Gotta love when Google makes an acquisition! - StumbleUpon acquired by eBay
One of the more surprising acquisitions occurred on May 30th when it was announced that eBay was acquiring StumbleUpon for $45 million. They didn’t exactly seem like a match made in heaven, but so far it’s worked out. eBay didn’t come in and make drastic changes to the popular discovery site which meant all of the users have remained happy (read). - MyBlogLog acquired by Yahoo
The MyBlogLog acquisition was one of the very first of 2007! Yahoo came in and swiped them up for $10 million which was quite the pay-off for a site that had only been available to the public for 3-4 months. While the popularity of the service seems to have faded over the last several months, it still plays an important role in the blogosphere (read).
If you’d like to view more of the acquisitions of 2007 that happened in the tech world, this site has a great list worth checking out.
Is there an acquisition that you think we overlooked or one that you feel should be added to the list? Hit us up in the comments below…

Star Trek Captain’s Chair on Ebay
Posted in: Today's ChiliNow, before you get too excited this chair is actually a replica of the original Star Trek’s Enterprise-D bridge captain chair. Apparently the original one was a little too worse for the wear and was recreated to go on tour to fan conventions with the rest of the set that makes up the Enterprise bridge.
The captain’s chair does have a list of celebrities that have sat in it since its creation including some Star Trek actors, Stan Lee and Weird Al. The chair is being sold because Huston Huddleston, the man who spearheaded the project to rebuild the Enterprise bridge, was not completely happy with some details of the chair’s creation and is having a new one built.
Still, you have a chance to get your own 98% correct Star Trek Enterprise captain’s chair replica on Ebay right now until the auction ends March 8. At the time of this writing, the current bid is at $4,050 with just five days left!

Can you find anything and everything on eBay? Apparently so, even the new all-electric Coda Sedan. Wait a minute here, why would one want to go to eBay to buy a brand new car, when you can easily walk into a dealership and drive away with one? Well, perhaps the fact that Coda Automotive went bankrupt in May last year has something to do with such a predicament, and it has led all of the leftover stock of Coda Cars’ EVs to be sold at “a substantial discount” to those who were interested. I suppose this is a bargain buy if there ever was one from Coda Cars, with the Coda Sedan going for $37,250, down sharply from the original $44,900 sticker price tag. However, Coda Cars even had a Coda EV on eBay that ended at a mere $14,000, picking up 24 bids along the way, making it worth way below the reserve price.
According to Rick Curtis, a Coda dealer previously who is working with Coda Cars now, “We put a Coda on eBay from time to time but most of the time we are selling these from our website or referrals. We have been selling complete cars, gliders and a few rollers and have even been selling components to buyers worldwide.” [eBay Listing]

eBay Removes Flappy Bird Listings
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs you might have heard, Flappy Bird has been removed from various app stores, apparently for our own good. However there are several enterprising gamers out there who have decided to go on eBay and sell their phones for hundreds of dollars, claiming that Flappy Bird comes preinstalled. We thought that maybe these listings were made for fun, but apparently there were several bids made on some of these phones, suggesting that the need to own Flappy Bird is for real, but thankfully eBay has since removed these listings as it has violated eBay’s guidelines.
According to emails that eBay has sent out, the listings were removed as they had violated eBay’s guidelines on selling used devices. The guidelines state that, “Smartphones and tablets must be restored to factory settings before they are allowed to be sold on eBay,” before specifically mentioning, “Please remove all content from your device, including the game Flappy Bird, before you attempt to list your item again. Please be sure your current and future listings follow these guidelines, keeping in mind that additional listing violations could result in the suspension of your account.”
