ZTE Open smartphone with Firefox OS to be sold on eBay for $80

ZTE Open smartphone with Firefox OS to be sold on eBay for $80

Yes, the ZTE Open is hauling its laggy self to America by way of the manufacturer’s eBay store. Early adopters who want to get a head start with Firefox OS, or regular buyers looking for a cheap device that can handle things like Nokia HERE maps and social networking integration, will be able to Buy It Now for $79.99 (or £59.99 in the eBay UK store). They’ll receive the unlocked, global variant of the Open, which is “not optimized for specific networks,” and they’ll get it in the orange color scheme that will be exclusive to eBay. There’s no sign of the fixed-price listing on the auction site as yet, and we’re not sure exactly when it’ll go live, but people are already bidding on an official-looking import from Hong Kong, for which the price currently stands at $51 including P&P.

Update: We originally reported that this phone would “exclusively” be available on eBay, but that’s only half true — it looks like the exclusivity solely applies to the orange-colored variant in the US, so we’ve fixed the article to reflect that.

eBay debuts desktop version of eBay Now, service coming to more cities this summer

eBay debuts desktop version of eBay Now, service coming to more cities this summer

eBay’s same-day delivery service has been highly focused on mobile since its very early days, but now the internet giant is looking to change that. Starting today, eBay Now will be available on the desktop, giving shoppers an alternative to using the site on their iOS or Android device. Naturally, this means users can still make the same purchases and have them delivered in a speedy fashion, only they’ll be able to do so on a larger canvas that’s optimized to display things like big imagery, reviews and which stores are most popular.

In addition, the company’s VP of Mobile and Local, Dan Glasgow, told us the service is, as of now, expanding its NYC coverage to Brooklyn and Queens, as well as some more places around the Bay Area. eBay also let us know Now’s getting ready to launch in Chicago and Dallas “later this summer,” adding that new features are set to debut at around the same time, including one which allows for scheduled deliveries. Still hoping it comes to your city? It may very well happen soon — eBay says it’s excited to keep growing and continue expanding the service.

Buy the 11th Doctor’s First Car on eBay

I know that you really had your heart set on buying the TARDIS, but Matt Smith is not getting rid of that. But he is parting with his first car. This Vauxhall Corsa was the first vehicle he purchased at age 18. It’s a 2000 model and it still runs, with only 60,000 miles on it.

matt smith car
Smith had this to say:

“While I have been travelling the universe in my TARDIS, my much-loved Vauxhall Corsa, aka The Shed, has been parked outside my parents’ house. As my first ever car, it has seen lots of adventures, not to mention a fair few mishaps (hence the dents). I’ll be very sad to see it go but I understand my parents want their driveway back! I’d love to find a new owner for this great little car, particularly as all the profits will go to Starlight, which is an amazing charity that brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children.”

He holds a special place in his heart for this car, but it is time to let go. Head over to eBay and put in a bid for a good cause.

eBay Exact arrives for customizable, 3D-printed products

What once was just a simple website for hosting online auctions is now a company that does so much more. eBay just launched a new service called Exact, which is essentially an online store dedicated entirely to 3D-printed products that shoppers can choose from and even customize, including phone cases, accessories, and jewelry.

The service comes in mobile app form only available on iOS at this point, and the experience will remind you a lot of Etsy, the online store where you can buy handcrafted products. eBay Exact does the same thing, except its for 3D-printed products only, and there are items from a handful of companies so far, including MakerBot.

Prices on items vary greatly. You can get a custom iPhone case for as low as $25, but products that are a bit more complex will cost more, including a 3D-printed ring that can cost as much as $350. Buying items through the app is very similar to paying for an item after winning an eBay auction. All payments are done through PayPal and orders are usually sent out 7-14 business days after payment was made.

Some products also have more customization options than others. A figurine may only have two options to choose from, but other items, like an iPhone case, may have an assortment of colors that you can pick from, choosing your favorite one.

While the 3D-printing craze has been around for awhile now, eBay’s entrance into the industry is still an early move for them, seeing as how 3D printing is fully mainstream yet. Plus, the company has plans to expand Exact with more items and more companies to offer their 3D-printed products. We reckon this is only the beginning for eBay’s adventure into 3D printing.

New eBay App Lets You 3D Print Stuff Without Your Own Printer

New eBay App Lets You 3D Print Stuff Without Your Own Printer

Chances are if you’re normal and sane and at least remotely responsible with your money, you’re not dropping $2,000 on a 3D printer. But that doesn’t mean you can’t tinker with 3D printing. eBay just released an app called Exact, that lets you customize and purchase your own items.

eBay releases Exact iOS app, a shopping portal for customized 3Dprinted products

Despite dropping prices in the 3D printer market, not everybody’s able to get a MakerBot and print the objects of their desire. Today, however, eBay’s launching a way — aside from trekking to MakerBot’s brick and mortar — for folks to get their 3D printing fix. It’s called eBay Exact, an iOS app that lets you buy customizable 3D printed objects from MakerBot, Sculpteo or Hot Pop Factory. For now, you can choose from 18 basic objects that are mostly jewelry, but figurines and phone cases are also available. To place an order, you simply choose your object, then pick from the available customization choices (mostly color and materials options) and check out. It’s a fairly simple idea, but you know what’s better than us describing it to you? Seeing it for yourself… your download awaits.
