Elon Musk talks electric supersonic airplane ambitions

Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX fame is known for his ideas and ambitions and the successes that have largely resulted from both. Blending the two companies’ focus into another idea, Musk spoke last year of an electric supersonic aircraft that could take off and land vertically, something that is no small goal. Fast forward […]

James Bond Lotus Submarine Gets The Elon Musk Treatment

James Bond Lotus Submarine Gets The Elon Musk TreatmentIn July this year, we heard of how the submersible Lotus car which featured in a James Bond movie some decades ago was put up on auction, with Elon Musk being the secret buyer of said vehicle. Well, Elon Musk is one entrepreneur who seems to have his hands dipped in a variety of markets and ventures, and now we are faced with Musk’s plans for the car he purchased. Apparently, he has big plans to change the classic Lotus Esprit ride that you might not believe what he has to say.

Elon Musk shared, “It was amazing as a little kid in South Africa to watch James Bond in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater. I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real.”

In a nutshell, Elon Musk has the money and the will to transform that Lotus Esprit into an electric submersible Bond car. Here is us hoping that his dream will actually come true! It would be fantastic to see such a ride in action for real.

Tesla To Build Car With “Auto-Pilot” Mode In Next Three Years

Tesla To Build Car With Auto Pilot Mode In Next Three Years

Tesla has decided to enter into the self-driving car race, after various companies such as Google and Nissan have already detailed their plans. The company is going to produce a car that is capable of running on “auto-pilot” within the next three years. According to Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, the system will take over 90 percent of the control of the car, adding that it would take longer for fully autonomous cars to be developed.

Musk says that they will develop the technology in-house. Tesla’s online job board has an open position for an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Controls Engineers, the job responsibilities also include aiding “Tesla’s effort to pioneer fully automated driving.” The company’s three year timeframe is said to be quite ambitious. At this point in time, the most advanced self-driving systems available to the public are found in the new Mercedes Benz S550, it touts adaptive cruise control that is capable of handling stop and go traffic. There’s also a feature called Traffic Assist which is capable of handling steering at low speeds. However, before fully autonomous cars can become a staple on the roads, a number of legal and safety issues will need to be resolved, for example, laws in the European Union dictate that a driver must have control of their car at all times.

Elon Musk Displays His 3D Modeling Software

Some time at the end of last month, we did bring you a story about how Elon Musk and his team has figured out just how to design rocket parts, in a manner that we were impressed with in Iron Man 3. Well, he has also posted a video that showed off the Iron Man-inspired 3D modeling software that was tweeted, where it will merge the gesture-sensing Leap Motion controller alongside a variety of different display technologies. Not only that, there was also a modified version of the Siemens NX design suite thrown into the mix, allowing his team, SpaceX’s engineers, to zoom around while performing an inspection of their models, all without having to touch a mouse.

Of course, it remains unclear whether they are able to design actual models using just the gestural setup alone, or to inspect models that they have come up with using more traditional tools. For those who are an old hand at working with 3D modeling software would know that manipulating an actual 3D model is an extremely complicated process, and to squeeze it into a bunch of gestures is extremely challenging. What do you think of this particular software, will it be able to speed up 3D modeling for the masses in the future?
