What Will We Find On Passengers' Cell Phones From Flight MH370?

Bearing in mind that CNN is the same network that suggested Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 might have flown into a black hole , it was nonetheless interesting to hear the network speculate that the cell phones of the flight’s passengers might hold an archive of unsent emails, texts, photos, and videos of whatever sequence of events befell the doomed airliner—and that these fragile digital files could still be recovered.

France: Companies Not Allowed To Contact Employees Electronically After Work Day Is Over

France: Companies Not Allowed To Contact Employees Electronically After Work Day Is OverIf you happen to stay in France and earn a living there, then you might be familiar with the following. They happen to have a 35 hour work week (do bear in mind that the 35-hour working week happens to be a measure that was first adopted in France back in February 2000, under the watch of Prime Minister Lionel Jospin’s Plural Left government. The 35 hours happen to be the legal standard limit, where working more than that would be overtime) as well as up to six weeks of paid vacation (well, for the luckiest of them, but certainly not most), now how does that sound to those overworked worker drones out there?

Still, French workers continue to get contacted by the office for work related stuff even when they have already clocked out, which is something that most of us would think to be pretty normal these days.

I guess they do it differently in France, where a deal that was signed by tech industry employers and several unions in that part of Europe would mean the law forbids companies affected to contact employees electronically once their work day is done with.

Needless to say, the worker groups are more than happy to hear about this particular news, but since there are always two sides to a coin, you can be sure that there will be some unhappy people around, too.

Considering how France happens to have a large digital sector, not to mention being plagued by bureaucracy being a major complaint among critics, this latest labor-friendly law would certainly place employers at a disadvantage. I guess this is where being as efficient as possible in the office itself would be the key to keeping everyone happy.

Microsoft Will Leave Email Snooping Up to the Authorities Now

After last week’s uproar over Microsoft’s 2012 snooping in a blogger’s Hotmail account , the company says it will no longer perform its own email snooping in criminal cases. In an official blog post today, Microsoft Executive Vice President Brad Smith said that, effective immediately, when investigations occur, "we will not inspect a customer’s private content ourselves. Instead, we will refer the matter to law enforcement if further action is required." Which sounds like what should’ve been protocol in the first place.

Keep Track of Your Memos and To-Do Lists by Emailing Them to OneNote

I’ve always maintained that OneNote is Microsoft’s most under-rated product. Now, the recently untethered (from Office) and free (hallelujah!) app has added a capability that makes using it even better: You can email important notes directly to your OneNote notebooks.

To set it up, all you need to do is click through to Email Settings on OneNote.com and sign in with the Microsoft account that’s associated with the OneNote notebook you want to use. By default, you’ll see the email address you just signed in with. If you want to add more addresses, you’ll need to add them as aliases in your Outlook.com account. Hit save and you’re done.

To email notes into your default notebook, just send an email to me@onenote.com from any of the email addresses you just configured and watch the note appear as a new page in your Quick Notes section. It’ll work like this: The email subject becomes the title of the note, and whatever is in the body of the message becomes the note itself. If your email has graphics and rich text, those will all be preserved as well.

You can use this functionality to quickly email to-do lists directly into your OneNote notebook, for instance, or forward maps, itineraries, and flight tickets from your email to OneNote for your next vacation. Very, very handy.
