Other cloud events focus on legacy technologies and incremental change and tend to let the cloud “vendors” do the talking. CloudBeat, by contrast, delivers actionable lessons by focusing on real customers that are adopting the most disruptive technologies out there, regardless of who peddles them.

New iPhones ship in September: “high-end and low-end”

In the midst of the unofficial confirmations of both the iPhone and the iPad appearing soon in reboots at a single Apple event comes an assembly line tip that two iterations of the iPhone will ship in September. This suggestion comes from the Wall Street Journal seeing word from people familiar with the matter speaking […]

iPhone event September 10th: unofficial confirmations flow in

Today a one-word “yep” confirmation (unofficial, though it is) appeared for a September 10th, 2013 Apple event that’ll almost certainly unveil the next iPhone. This event date was first reported this weekend by AllThingsD, they having received an anonymous tip from someone with knowledge of the matter. Today this “next iPhone at a special event […]

LG Korea launches G2 with ill-advised marketing stunt, injures 20 (video)

LG Korea launches G2 with illadvised marketing stunt, injures 20 video

It’s a fine line that gadget fans have to walk, moderating our techno-lust just enough that we don’t start hurting people. It’s a lesson that LG Korea has just learned the hard way after a promotional event for the new G2 caused 20 people to be injured. The “G in the cloud” event in Seoul involved launching hundreds of helium balloons into the air, carrying vouchers for free handsets — which some members of the crowd tried to shoot down using BB guns. The company has already apologized to those who were inadvertently shot and will cover the cost of their medical care, while subsequent events have been called off. What’s wrong with a raffle?

Moto X unveiling event to be followed up with star-studded after-party

On July 19, Motorola fired out a pre-event invitation to a Moto X event on August 1 in New York, prepped to bring the full device details to light. Now it has sent out another invite, this time bringing on a secondary event – a party, of sorts, full of big names in custom-fitted fun. In addition, the Moto X makes a somewhat candid appearance in the latest invite, more so than in the last one.

    Invite

The latest invite includes both another look at the user-oriented approach included with the Moto X and sets prospective attendees up for a wild night, with a secondary event starting at 8PM EST and lasting until the wee morning hours. It looks like Google is gearing up for quite the kick off.

There’s a host of entertainment involved, among them being DJ Kaskade, M4SONIC, Thank You X, Chef Marc Forgione, SOL REPUBLIC, and the comedy team JASH. Beyond that, the invite also gives us one other interesting piece of information, which you can spot for yourself up on the left corner: a shot of a white Moto X, which looks similar to the one Google’s Eric Schmidt was seen using.

The flagship has been seen in a myriad of leaks, not the last of which were a ton of screenshots that surfaced yesterday showing some off its much-touted features. The device will be able to function based on certain situations, such as switching into hand set mode when the user is driving, and being silent at night when one is likely to be sleeping.

Beyond that, the smartphone will also allow for rather extensive customizations, including different colors and engraving, as well as rumors of wooden back panels and other materials. You can check out some of the latest news about the upcoming phone in the timeline below, and then head on over to our Moto X tag portal for more info.

LG August 7 event invitation confirms G2 unveiling

LG sent out invitations for its August 7 event earlier this month, hinting that it would be unveiling the LG G2 with a couple of careful letters and numbers in the image. Now it has fired of another invitation, this time leaving no doubt that it will be showing off the handset next month, as well as providing the first official look at the smartphone.

Screen Shot 2013-07-22 at 4.16.07 PM

The invitation states that participants will get to “experience” the LG G2, removing the doubt no one had at this point that the handset will be making its appearance on August 7. This comes shortly after the company confirmed the name of the device in a separate announcement, dropping the “Optimus” tag as many leaks have suggested.

The LG G2 will be kicking off a line of premium handsets that all fall under the “G” brand, according to that announcement, with a separate line of handsets falling under the “Vu:” brand. While the event invitation doesn’t give a particularly detailed look at the device, it does confirm the existence of the buttons on the back of the handset, which will serve as power and volume rockers.

The unconventional button layout, which we first heard about back in April, is said to be the result of how thin the handset is, with there being no room on the edges for typical button placement. Some suggest the buttons will serve more than simple power and volume control, but that is yet to be seen.

According to other leaks, the LG G2 will feature a 5.2-inch display, and will run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor along with 2GB of RAM. There’s said to be a 13-megapixel rear camera, with the software being Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. You can find out more about what we’ve already heard in the timeline below, and of course we’ll be here with all the details on August 7.

Nokia Lumia 625 detailed in full leak with 4.7-inch display

It’s one day early and certainly “Something Big” as Nokia suggested just this morning: the Lumia 625, complete with 4.7-inch display. This device will be working with a 4.7-inch IPS display at 800 x 480 pixels, surprisingly, this suggesting that – as it was guessed – this device will be headed for a more budget-minded crowd.

    Nokialumia625_specs_puhelinvertailu

This device looks to be working with a 5-megapixel camera at its back, a VGA web camera at its front, and 4G LTE – but only for Europe at the moment. If we do see this device delivered to the USA – and it’d be surprising, given the specifications we’re seeing here – it’ll be later in the year with a slightly different number after its Lumia brand name.

Also under the the hood you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor – dual-core paired with 512 MB of RAM. Here you’ve got a 2,000 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and a bit of an off-red case color that matches the Nokia teaser from earlier today. Look like a winner to you?

Make sure you keep your wits about you when you decide to roll with this particular looker. While it may seem like a beauty from afar, it’s an odd combination of large display and extra-low display resolution that’ll have the market baffled. Unless, of course Nokia brings it to a market where the Lumia 925 doesn’t exist, and they’ve never seen the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S 4 in action.

DROID ULTRA leaks again, racing stripe intact

If you were worried about the legitimacy of the leaked image shown last week depicting the DROID ULTRA complete with bright red stripe down its back, you weren’t alone. What’s appeared today, however, is a lovely bit of leak showing the same unit, this time with a much more photographically sound angle on it – that’s a Limited Edition of the unit if ever we’ve seen one. Here the DROID ULTRA comes out to play for Verizon employees – or the very lucky.

    motorola-droid-ultra-limited-505x650

This machine is aimed at being the upgrade of the DROID RAZR HD, the smaller of the two RAZR devices in the carrier’s current Motorola-made smartphone lineup. There’s also the DROID RAZR M, of course, but this is in terms of battery capacity. Here the DROID ULTRA carries what’s almost certainly an upgraded higher-definition display and an expanded bit of ruggedness as well.

This variant of the DROID ULTRA suggests that though both Motorola and Verizon will be going all-in when it comes to the Moto X, they’re still not forgetting their virtual handshake in the DROID brand lineup. This version of the machine could also very easily be the DROID MAXX, the larger of the two full-sized smartphones as far as battery capacity, this based on past iterations of this special edition red stripe – MAXX it’s always been.

This machine – minus the stripe – will quite likely be revealed at the Verizon event coming tomorrow – that’s July 23rd of this month, mind you. Have a peek at the DROID timeline below to catch up on what this reboot of the DROID series means for you and your decisions in Verizon-bound smartphone upgrades soon. Choices await!
