Samsung Developers Conference aims to join big guns as cross-platform yearly event

In what’s fairly clear to be the spirit of such developer events as Apple’s WWDC and Google I/O, Samsung has this week announced the creation of their own Developers Conference. Starting October 27th and lasting two days, ending on the 29th, this event takes place right in the heart of San Francisco, aiming to bring in both developers and industry leaders to a software-centric series of events living in the Samsung universe.

At the moment, Samsung has only suggested that registration and full details for the event will be going live later this summer. Here in the early summer of 2013, Samsung’s full plans for their own attempt at joining the likes of Microsoft’s BUILD – aka their own yearly developer-centered conference – stay simple.

“Engage with industry leaders. Collaborate with fellow developers. Learn about new Samsung tools and SDKs. Create what’s next.” – Samsung Dev Con

Over at SamsungDevCon’s initial web presence, the company brings a similarly scant set of details. It is known at this early stage that this event will include more than just mobile products. It’s not just going to be about Samsung smartphones and tablets. This will be, according to Samsung, a “major, Samsung-side, cross-product (multi-screen) developer event.”

Sound like a good time to you? Have a peek at our Google I/O tag portal for one direction this multi-day event series might take, and our WWDC tag portal for another.

Moto X un-event: here’s why Motorola is holding meetings, not a live stream

So you’ve seen the announcement on the Moto X being a New York City event taking place on the 1st of August, yes? There’s a bit of information in the invitation that you’ll be interested to see if you’re all about the possibilities in this device’s vast customizability – the customizability that we’ve not yet heard about in detail officially, of course, but it’s all but obvious at this point: a variety of physical colors for the smartphone and engravings to boot.

Motorola is holding a full day’s set of meetings according to the public bits of the invite to this New York City engagement. These sessions are first-come, first-serve, so will have a limited number of slots – a limited number of press representatives that can attend each meeting. There are several meetings coming up, and the media collected in this set of meetings will have an embargo set that’ll only be lifted later in the day, that same day.

Consider this: What if Motorola weren’t just showing the smartphone off on its own, but was taking the time to show the device’s many unique abilities – sensors, updated Android iteration, and all – amid the color choices and abilities in hardcore customizations at the same time?

And what if these meetings also had live customizations done for each group so the press could pick up what Motorola’s putting down in this wholly unique smartphone release?

It’s been suggested that Google is giving some extensive funding love to this particular project in the form of half a billion dollars. No small chunk of change.

You’ll want to have a peek at SlashGear’s exploration of the possibilities in the post titled Moto X and the colorful customization of Motorola, a Google company. Until August 1st, we’ll just have to cross our fingers and hope for that custom-cut Navy Blue Moto X with the SlashGear engraving – it’s gotta happen!

Moto X event set: August 1st in New York

This afternoon invites have been sent out from Motorola for an event with no secret to is content: Moto X. This event will be taking place on August 1st and – believe it or not – it has no set timeframe. Instead it would appear that this pre-event registration has the press making certain they’re set for the day well before the public press event is announced.

This device has been chattered about for months, and over the past several weeks – then days, we’ve been seeing an exponential number of details centering around a public showing by none other than Google’s own Eric Schmidt not one week ago.

This device is set to work with Google’s next-generation Android software and will be bringing on its own unique set of sensors, customizability, and camera abilities as well. You’ll find this smartphone delivered in black, white, and a variety of colors in-between – it’ll all be up to the user in the end. You’ll want to have a peek at SlashGear’s own Moto X and the details you need for an ideal launch as well as the exploratory article Moto X and the colorful customization of Motorola, a Google company.

“Come experience the new Motorola. No Stage. No Crowds.”

Have a peek at our Moto X tag portal for more information on this smartphone as we edge closer to the big day, and make sure you stick around for the July 24th Google event as well. It’s there that we’ll likely see Android 4.3, complete with the red carpet rolled out for Motorola soon thereafter.

Google event set for July 24th, Android update incoming

Today an invitation to a special Google event has been sent to the press promising a breakfast with Android head Sundar Pichai. Though this Googler is in charge of Chrome as a web browser and as an operating system as well, it’s far more likely that this July 24th event will center on Android itself, especially considering the several appearances of Android’s next-generation features in teasers for the Motorola-made smartphone Moto X.

invite

Google does own Motorola now, and the time between here and the release of the Moto X grows short, but it is more likely that Google would create a side-event like this to prepare the world for the software side of things before the smartphone is unveiled in full. Motorola’s hero phone will carry Google’s next edition of Android right out of the box, so to speak, but it’s just as important for the company to identify the software’s features for the rest of the Android-toting device universe.

Now that Google works with the Nexus 4, HTC One Google Play edition, and Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition, this event will likely show software advances on this three-device range. They’ve also got two tablets with Nexus branding as well, of course.

Recent rumblings about a reboot for the Google Nexus 7 are also a part of the list of possibilities for this event. If a new version of Android is in the mix, what better way to usher it in than with another new device?

Stay tuned – SlashGear will be eating hearty while we report the whole events’ dealings on July 24th. The event starts a 9AM PST and we’ll ready to roll, Open Mics ready!

Google set to host press event July 24th featuring Sundar Pichai

DNP Google set to host product event next week

Google’s always cooking something up, and the company has our undivided attention when the press gets invited over for a breakfast featuring Sundar Pichai, the man in charge of Chrome and Android. While the invite doesn’t indicate anything specific, we’re expecting to hear some sort of announcement next Wednesday. We’d love to get some more details on the elusive Android 4.3 or perhaps a new Nexus 7 (heck, a new Nexus anything would be just fine with us), but we’ll just have to wait and see what Sundar has in store.

LG Optimus G2 event scheduled for August 7th

While final specifications on the LG Optimus G2 have not yet been solidified, the company has all but guaranteed that we’ll be having our first official look on the 7th of August. Event invites for the press have been sent out for a New York City engagement that’ll be taking place on that date with a teaser “Great 2 Have You” attached – and the leaked photos of the device itself continue.

lgevent

What you’re about to see are a series of images and details leaked over the past week (or in some cases, the last several months). The first is a front and back image of the LG Optimus G2 suggesting that the rumors of a buttonless set of edges on this machine are true. Here LeaksChina provides photos so blurry you’ll have trouble believing they were captured by anything better than a 1 megapixel feature phone shooter – but they do the job regardless.

lgbigleakschina

Next you’ll see an image of the device’s left side. This image is provided by TechTastic and suggests that we’ll be seeing a rather thin device to boot.

Schermafbeelding-2013-07-08-om-00-1.48.341

It’s been suggested that this machine will be a hero device for LG to take on the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S 4. To do this, the company is tipped to be bringing on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and a top-notch display with edge-to-edge technology making for a rather unique experience in the palm of the users’ hand.

• 5.5-inch 1080p display

• Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor at clock speed 2.3GHz for each of four cores

• 2GB RAM

• 13-megapixel back-facing camera aside volume and power buttons

• Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean / LG UI

• Edge-to-edge display (aka a very small bezel)

You’ll see a collection of leaked images and details collected by SlashGear back on June 22nd that make the case for the phone outlined above as well.

Also of interest is the invite image itself – this BEAST is a massive 2,999 x 2,584 pixels when extracted. This is FAR larger than any average event invite for the press – normally they’re less than a few hundred pixels large, and blurry at that. Here LG has clearly made an effort to go big – and sharp. Stick around for the full show – SlashGear will be in NYC on the 7th with bells on.

T-Mobile holding a press event July 10th, promises ‘boldest moves yet’

Image

We’re never ones to turn down a particularly intriguing teaser, so you can bet we’ll be be there with bells on. T-Mobile’s event’s going down on July 10th in New York City. Beyond that, well, your guess is as good as ours. The minimalistic magenta invite promises that the carrier will be delivering its “boldest moves yet,” via an image file titled, fittingly, “moonshot.” Moon rockets? PlayStation Moves? BlackBerry Bolds? The sky’s the limit, apparently.

LG to host an event in New York City on August 7th, could it be for a new Optimus G?

LG’s got something cooking, and it’s looking to let us in its kitchen in New York City on August 7th. Naturally, the important details — like what we’ll be seeing — are nowhere to be found just yet, but given LG and Qualcomm’s recent teasing of a new Optimus G packing a Snapdragon 800 SoC, it seems this could be a smartphone-centric affair. We’ll have to wait and see until the dog days of summer, of course, but we’ll be there to bring you the action when the time comes.
