Evernote for Windows Touch scores several new features, Business support

Evernote has announced an update to its Windows Touch app, something that brings users a variety of new features, as well as newly added Evernote Business support. The changes are immediately notable due to a new hub page, which is designed to offer users the “core navigation items” and various content from their account that is most commonly needed.

Evernote Windows Touch

The new hub page features a variety of options, among them being new note options: the ability to create a new text note, kick things off via a file attachment, or create a new snapshot. The hub will also make it easier to get to shortcuts by listing them together under the “Shortcuts” category, which you can see in the screenshot above. These shortcuts first have to be made in Evernote, whether it is the Windows Touch app or a different variety.

Recent activity is also displayed on the new hub page, which includes Business notebooks and updates that have been shared in recent times. Notes are displayed, with the order in which they show up depending on the users. Notes can be ordered so that the most recent appear, for example, allowing for customization based on personal needs and preferences.

And finally, as far as the hub page goes, there’s the ability to choose a tag in order to see the notes associated with it, as well as notebooks, with some of them being listed on the hub and users being able to go directly to them by tapping. This applies to Evernote Business notebooks as well, which leads to the last feature addition: support for Evernote Business.

With the new support, those who use Evernote Business can do so from the Windows Touch app, having access to their Business library. The content from the Business library is distinguished from regular notebooks using color codes. From there, the changes are more minor, such as the ability to convert a note into plain text by removing the formatting. Evernote doesn’t detail these smaller changes, but stresses that, overall, this update is a “major” one.

Evernote for Windows Touch gets a redesign, two-step verification

Image

Couple of updates to Evernote for Windows Touch users: for starters, the app’s hub page has been redesigned for a better fingers-on experience, bringing handy columns for notes, shortcuts created across different platforms and Notebooks. The Windows Touch app now includes support for Evernote Business, as well — Notebooks created for that side of things will appear in blue, so you can tell them apart from the personal notebooks sitting in your hub. Also new is two-step verification for added security. A full list of updates to the pachyderm-friendly note-taking platform can be found in the source link below.

NoteSuite for iPad: Meet Evernote’s New, Subscription-Free Competition

NoteSuite for iPad: Meet Evernote's New, Subscription-Free Competition After finding success with note-taking/to-do app Projectbook last year, Theory.io has decided to overhaul their signature productivity app and take it a step further. Now, hoping to go head-to-head with big dogs like Evernote, the developers are officially re-releasing the app as NoteSuite—the potential answer to all your disorganized digital life woes.

What does it do?

Just like its first incarnation, NoteSuite still you take notes and make to-do lists, but that’s only a very small portion of the new beast. You can also annotate essentially any type of content (web pages, articles, PDFs, etc.), clip web pages, record audio, and search through various file types as one. Your data will sync across your various devices (which would be limited to Macs and iPads at this point).

Why do we like it?

One of the biggest differences between this and Evernote is that you’re not going to have to pay any sort of subscription fee, and you still get virtually all the perks. And the annotation function on the app is fantastic. Nothing is safe from your highlighting, annotating, signing, typing fingers—you can write and draw on practically any document by converting it to a PDF. The fact that search can work across files that haven’t been converted or organized is another huge bonus. And if you were already a ProjectBook user, you can nab the update totally free. Of course, the fact that there’s no iPhone version yet is a pretty big mark in the "con" column—but the app is young, hopefully a more mobile-friendly edition is soon to come.

NoteSuite, Download this app for: iPad, $2

The Best: No subscription fee

The Worst: No iPhone version

Evernote Web Clipper’s new Gmail function saves copies of emails and attachments

DNP Evernote Gmail clipper

Keeping your Gmail account organized isn’t that hard when you can tag and star emails. Evernote Web Clipper’s new function, however, promises easier access to missives you deem particularly important. Once the Chrome extension is installed, it saves any message you want along with its attachments in just one click. One note, though: you’ll need a premium account to search through any attached documents. Note that the Gmail clip will look like a garbled mess (especially if it’s a lengthy thread) on Web Clipper’s preview screen, but on the Evernote app or web portal it will appear nicely formatted. If you think this new function can help you wrangle an increasingly unruly Gmail account, hit the source link below for more info or look for the extension on the Chrome Web Store.

Add this to Apple’s string of revelations at this year’s WWDC: the company has just divulged its 2013 Design Awards winners, comprising of a variety of iPhone, iPad and Mac apps that it deems to be a cut above the rest. This year’s list includes note-taking app Evernote, Yahoo Weather and two stellar entries by student developers. This is also the first time Apple has required young developer scholarship applicants to submit apps that detail their lives and backgrounds in technology, out of which the company chose three standout submissions. Just like last year, Apple judged the entries based on their features and visual designs. You can check out the full list in the source below and — if you’re a dev — glean some hints for next year.
