LEGO Power Brick External Battery: Power Functions

Chinese company Coi+ recently released a portable battery that not only works with LEGO pieces, it comes with a few bricks too. It’s called the Power Brick. It has a 4200mAh battery inside and it charges gadgets via USB.

I’m not sure if the bricks that are included with the battery actually came from LEGO. Whatever the case, you can use them and the battery to make an impromptu stand or dock for your phone.

Snap together a browser tab and head to our old friend Brando to get the Power Brick. It costs $49(USD) and comes in red, blue, yellow or white.

SOOT Electropack: Never Run out of Juice

Having lots of devices can be fun, but it’s a pain when you run out of juice. I’ve had to scramble to find a power plug more than once, and the external battery that I have usually doesn’t last that long. Lugging around a large battery in your backpack makes sense if you’re heading outdoors.

The SOOT Electropack is supposed to be able to power your devices for up to two weeks without having to plug it in. Now that’s what I call self-sufficiency. The bag is made up of three modular bags, which can be combined to suit your needs.

Each one contains a 10,000 mAh battery. The pack can charge up to four devices at once, from smartphones to tablets. A single battery pack can charge a typical smartphone up to seven times, or an iPad once. Get the version with an extra battery pack to double that for up to two weeks of capacity for your smartphone.

The SOOT Electropack has got 34L of storage, so you can still lug around a lot of gear while keeping your devices fully juiced up. It was launched as Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, which ends on October 17th. You’ll have to pledge at least $239(USD) with one battery pack. $279 will buy you a the version with the extra battery pack.

ChargePak 3 Port External Battery is handy with an integrated wall charger

newtrent-chargepakMost of us do carry our fair share of gadgets, where a smartphone is a definite “must have” device, while some of us augment that with a tablet for those moments where lugging around a notebook is just too much trouble. However, there is a new category of devices that might make a potential splash in the market – smartwatches, and this would mean having yet another category of devices for you to remember to charge up at the end of each day so that they – and you, will be ready to face yet another work day with full batteries. Having said that, there are moments in life when we actually forget to charge a particular device, and it is in such situations that the likes of the $49.99 ChargePak 3 Port External Battery would come in handy.

The big question is, what do you use to charge your portable battery when it starts to run low on juice? Fret not, as the genius of the ChargePak 3 Port External Battery lies in the fact that it comes with a built-in wall charger, so you need not look for any pesky cables or carry around yet another adapter to power up the thirsty ChargePak 3 Port External Battery. Capable of charging up to a trio of devices simultaneously, the ChargePak 3 Port External Battery will feature a micro USB cable, letting you juice up a tablet and a pair of smartphones at the same time.

Anker introduces Astro3 external battery

In this day and age, most of us carry more than a single device wherever we go in order to be as productive as possible. Surely the smartphone would be a compulsory piece of hardware by any means of the imagination, and it is more often than not complemented by a tablet of sorts, in addition to a bunch of other goodies – some might include a portable speaker or the likes. These devices will need juice (electricity) to run for sure, and you would do well to ensure that you have a backup on hand always – such as Anker’s Astro3 external battery. This is a second generation device that is roughly the size of your average flask, but underneath the black exterior lies a high-capacity 12,000mAh battery which is capable of powering up to three different compatible mobile devices at once, thanks to the highest-in- the-industry 4A current capacity.

It is a versatile external battery pack which sports a trio of USB ports, where one of them would include a Smart Port which is capable of identifying the kind of device which is plugged in, where it will then get to work by adjusting itself so that said plugged in device will be able to be charged up within the shortest time possible. You can say that the second generation Astro3 is proud to announce that it is the first of its kind that boasts of a single port which is capable of delivering full-speed, fast charges to both iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

There are two more other ports that offer universal charging for Android-powered devices at maximum speed, and will also play nice with iPhones and other 5V USB-charging devices. The Astro3 has enough battery capacity to deliver up to seven full charges for majority of the smartphones out there, making it one quick, energy-efficient portable power solution that ensures you remain connected all the time. A tiny circular LED power indicators will dial down, letting you know how much its power reserves are left. Expect to pick up the Astro3 in black for $49.99 a pop.

ASUS Introduces Desktop PCs with Optional Battery Pack & UPS: Ever Ready

On the eve of this year’s Computex international computer and technology fair, ASUS announced two desktop PCs with an optional component that can save both themselves and other gadgets. Both the upcoming G10 and M51 computers will support the ASUS Power Pack, an optional 6,000 mAh external battery pack that doubles as the computers’ UPS.

The Power Pack is the black device jutting out of the G10′s expansion bay in the image above. You can take the entire thing out and use it to charge mobile devices on the go via its 2 USB ports, then dock it back to recharge it. But as I mentioned above, while it’s docked it also pulls double duty as an uninterruptible power supply or a UPS. When power to the G10 or M51 is cut off, the Power Pack can keep those two desktop PCs alive for up to 30 minutes. That’s more than enough to save your files and shut down the PCs. Here’s a video from Engadget’s Zach Honig:

You can read ASUS’ press release to find out a bit more about both PCs. But I bet some of you are already busy thinking of ways to hack an external battery to your PCs.
