Boeing’s Android-Powered Smartphone Arrives At The FCC

Boeings Android Powered Smartphone Arrives At The FCCThey say that good things come to those who wait. I would suppose that should you happen to be an industry watcher where smartphones are concerned, you might have come across news that Boeing, the aviation giant, intends to make the jump into the world of smartphones. This is almost as “silly” as supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg teaming up with Razer to roll out a limited edition Razer Blade gaming laptop, as the worlds of both companies are poles apart. No matter, it has been a couple of years since Boeing reiterated their commitment to work on an Android-powered smartphone that is secure, and here we are in spring with news of such a smartphone having arrived at the FCC already for approval, which can only mean one thing – the Boeing Android-powered smartphone is well on its way to the market.

HTC M8 Spotted At The FCC

HTC M8 Spotted At The FCCBy now we’re sure everyone has heard of the HTC M8, the successor to the HTC One from 2013. Based on all the leaks we’ve seen, chances are that could truly be the device that HTC will unveil come 25th March. However in the meantime, for those who might still be a little skeptical about the phone’s design, a recent handset by HTC has shown up at the FCC which has some speculating that the phone in question could really be the HTC M8. As you can see in the diagram above, the device is one from HTC and based on its design, it does share some similarities to the HTC M8 based on the leaked photos we’ve seen so far.

Chances of it being the HTC M8 is pretty high, especially given that we have not heard about HTC’s plans to launch other handsets, apart from the HTC Desire 8 which looks nothing like the one pictured above. The FCC filing has also revealed the phone’s LTE bands and the fact that it will be compatible with AT&T as well. We’re not sure if this means that AT&T will be getting an exclusive with the HTC M8, or it is because other carrier variants have yet to surface. Either way we guess we will learn more about the HTC M8 in March, so check back with us then for the details!

Why Net Neutrality Demands Total Transparency

Why Net Neutrality Demands Total Transparency

The net neutrality fight is moving in new directions, and quickly. Today FCC Chair Tom Wheeler announced that the FCC would press forward with new "Open Internet" rules, undeterred by last month’s court decision striking down most of the old ones. Last week, Comcast and Time Warner Cable announced plans to merge. The merger would create the largest Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the nation, with five times the subscribers of its closest competitor. With only one or two broadband providers available in most parts of the country, prices may soar while the quality of services plummets. A lack of competition raises serious concerns that huge ISPs will be able to favor particular sites and services.

Surface 2 With LTE Spotted At The FCC

Surface 2 With LTE Spotted At The FCCBack in October 2013, Microsoft launched their brand new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets. Both tablets offered up WiFi connectivity but at the same time, we’re sure that many wouldn’t mind if the tablets came with an LTE option. After all not everywhere provides WiFi and tethering to your phone is a good and quick way to use up your data. The good news was that during an AMA on Reddit, the Surface team promised that Surface 2 tablets with LTE and GPS connectivity will be launched in 2014, and the good news is that it looks like we’re one step closer. This is thanks to a recent FCC filing where an LTE-enabled Surface 2 tablet was spotted.

Given that Surface boss, Panos Panay, stated that the Surface 2 with LTE will be arriving on AT&T, we can only assume that the model spotted at the FCC will be destined for AT&T’s networks. As for other countries, it seems that Microsoft has partnered with Vodafone so if you wanted your Surface 2 with LTE, you’d have to head on over to Vodafone for it. There’s no telling when the LTE version will be launched, or if we will see a Surface Pro 2 with LTE, but we reckon it’s still good news nonetheless. Hopefully we will learn more about the tablet’s availability soon, if not at Microsoft’s Build conference which will take place in April.

LG Earbuds Which Tracks The Heart Rate Hits The FCC

LG Earbuds Which Tracks The Heart Rate Hits The FCCAt CES last month, the folks over at LG did mention about the Lifeband fitness wearable in addition to a pair of heart-rate sensing earphones, but somehow there was no specific mention as to when these would actually appear over in stores. Hence, it is with a sigh of relief that the FCC has dropped a clue that the heart-rate sensing earphones should hit the market in due time, where these Bluetooth-enabled earphones have gotten the nod of approval from the FCC, making them suitable for a commercial release. As with most devices that have been approved by the FCC in the past, it would also mean one thing – a final release is not too far away, too.
