Biscotti TV dunked in the FCC’s latte, still a bit hard

Webcams have certainly narrowed the distance between loved ones, but it’s hard to argue that two people hovering over their laptop screens can rival an in-person conversation. Moving things over to the big screen could make the exchange much more comfortable for everyone involved — you just need an HDTV, and a Biscotti. The small black box should be ready to turn the biggest screen in your home into a high definition video phone fairly soon, having just landed in the FCC’s living room. Packed inside is a camera, microphone and 802.11b/g/n WiFi — plug the contraption into your TV and you can instantly make calls to family and friends, with no monthly charges. A pair of HDMI ports let the device serve as a bridge between your television and cable box, so folks with limited connections don’t have to choose between Dad and Mr. Mom. Biscotti will also interact with computers, tablets and smartphones via an as-yet unnamed “video player” to bring life-sized video chat to the masses. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, but if the FCC has finished nibbling at it, then it shouldn’t be long before we get a taste ourselves.

Samsung Galaxy W revisits the FCC, is this T-Mobile’s ‘Ancora?’

Samsung’s Galaxy W has already made its requisite FCC debut, brandishing radios fit for AT&T. Now another variant’s cropped up in the Commission’s electronic database, this time bearing the model number SGH-T679M and AWS bands. That’s right, this looks to be the same Sammy handset, dubbed the Ancora, we spied earlier this month in that leaked T-Mobile roadmap. If the release date rumors prove true, you’ll be seeing this low-end, 4G Android device and it’s purported 1.4GHz processor up for sale early next month. Until then, you’ll have to make due with the multitude of titillating frequency tests at the source link below.

Huawei MediaPad passes go at FCC, collects $200

Huawei’s mildly anticipated dual-core MediaPad shouldn’t be long now that it’s passed the multimeter-wielding ministrations of the FCC. As per tradition, it was the WiFi-only model that was passed fit for human consumption, but we’re still expecting it to drink from T-Mobile’s well of HSPA+. The 7-inch tablet will have a 1,280 x 800 IPS display, run Honeycomb and should arrive before the holidays for $200 on contract.

Samsung’s Korea-bound Galaxy S II HD LTE pops up in FCC filings

We’ll have to brush up on our foreign languages to decipher the full battery label, but the Samsung SHV-E120L (aka the Galaxy S II HD LTE, thanks David_DK!)– home to a 4.65-inch HD screen and dual-core 1.5GHz processor according to specs leaked last month — has passed through its FCC testing. We didn’t spot any indications it will bring that 1280×720 res display this way, but you can check for yourself at the link below.

Garmin ANT+ adapter for iPhone hits the FCC

There’s already a few options available for folks looking to pair their ANT+ device (i.e. a Garmin sport watch or cycling computer) with their iPhone, but it looks like Garmin is now about to get in on the act itself. While details are fairly light, the device sketched out above has turned up at the FCC for the requisite testing and approval, and it’s definitely an ANT+ adapter for the iPhone, which we can only presume will work in conjunction with an app of some sort. Hopefully Garmin will fill in some of those remaining details sooner rather than later.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus WiFi approved by FCC

Yesterday we brought you news of pre-orders, and today we can confirm that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has passed the exhaustive scrutinizing that the FCC does so well. The version that had its insides prodded with multimeters and suchlike was the 16GB WiFi model, with no talk of any other mobile wireless capability. Still, whilst it may not be able to roam around the country without a MiFi, you know that when it’s emerged from the testing bunker, it won’t be long before it’s available in stores.

LG P930 handset visits the FCC, does little to shake off the mystery

The last time we heard tell of the LG P930, the thing was little more than mysterious XML code. We still don’t know that much about the Android-packing device, but at least it’s now real enough to have earned FCC approval. There are a couple of interesting tidbits revealed in the documentation here, however — first and foremost is the fact that it’s referred to as an “LTE phone.” Also on-board is Bluetooth and WLAN, 802.11n and WCDMA band V. As you can see from the above drawing, LG and the FCC aren’t really giving us much to work with on the image front.

GSM Nexus Prime passes through the FCC, possibly heading to AT&T?

Nexus Prime at the FCC?

Just because next week’s joint Samsung and Google event has been postponed doesn’t mean the leaks have to end. A Sammy handset with the model number I9250, which matches up nicely with the baseband version in the Galaxy Nexus shots that popped up, just made an appearance at the FCC packing a GSM radio compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile’s HSPA networks. It’s also boasting dual-band 802.11n, Bluetooth and NFC. Despite suggestions that the next Nexus device would be a Verizon exclusive, we could be looking at the AT&T version or at least the unlocked GSM model. The fact that it doesn’t support T-Mobile’s 2100MHz band leads us to believe this won’t be popping up in T-Mo shops. It appears that T-Mobile AWS is included. Noticeably missing, however, is any mention of LTE — that particular feature could still be the sole realm of Big Red. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to find out all the details. Toshiba AT200 tablet squeezes through 7.7mm gap at the FCC

News about Toshiba’s ultra-thin AT200 tablet has been patience-testingly slow since we went hands-on at IFA a month ago. We did recently hear that a Japanese variant of the Regza-branded ten-incher — confusingly called the AT700 — is on schedule for release there in December and we’re hoping that the US version will arrive in time for Christmas too. Encouraging, then, to see that it’s passed unscathed through the FCC’s electromagnetic rendition of Wipeout with WiFi and Bluetooth in tow. The submitted paperwork also reveals a little extra detail: the tablet is at least partly manufactured by Quanta, the same OEM guys behind the Kindle Fire and the BlackBerry PlayBook. With the tablet wars looking brutal as ever, it’s nice to know that somebody always wins.
