With Apple, Google, and Nokia all vying for a share of the in-car navigation market, TomTom’s hooked up with a team of automotive partners to keep its long-term aspirations alive. The first of the navigation firm’s three new deals will see it provide maps, navigation and traffic updates for Renault’s new built-in R-Link touchscreen tablet, which will feature in no fewer than 15 of the company’s new models. TomTom is establishing a new partnership with Ford with the debut of a new app for the in-dash SYNC infotainment system, although you won’t see it until sometime next year. The GPS provider will also include its mapping features in Sony’s newest AV Center in-dash system, which features a high-res 6.1-inch display. As TomTom gradually gets pulled in two — between deals with Apple and its ever-expanding list of car manufacturing partners — maybe the portable dashboard GPS will soon find itself at a dead end.

IFA’s doors opened to the public today, and the show is marking the occasion with a keynote from Ford CEO Alan Mulally (and yes, we’ve met before). Not only will the perennial subject of the connected car be discussed, but we’re told a brand-new concept vehicle and a handful of announcements are slated for the event. We’re also expecting the firm’s head honcho to provide an update on Ford SYNC AppLink. The outfit’s Jim Buczkowski, director of Electrical and Electronic Systems for Advanced Research and Engineering, and Ed Pleet, director of Connected Services for Europe, Asia Pacific, and Africa, will join Mulally on stage as well. Two of my favorite things in all the world are cars and bacon. I think bacon is the reason God put pigs on earth and the man who invented bacon should be immortalized on Mount Rushmore. I also happen to think that the Ford Fiesta is one of the least attractive cars on the market.
However, I do like bacon and Ford has announced some custom bacon graphics specifically for the 2014 Fiesta. The most bacontastic of the wraps is the one you see in the image above – showing 12 salty and crispy slices of bacon spread all around the car. That is a somewhat over the top representation of your love for salty pork in my book.
Ford does have a few other bacon graphics that you can add to your car if you’re looking for something a little more subtle. My favorite are the bacon racing stripes, a pair of bacon strips that you can place on the hood of your Fiesta that resemble classic dual racing stripes.
Ford also offers the side of bacon graphics with two individual strips of bacon wrapped over the rear wheels. Ford created these bacon themed wraps in celebration of International Bacon Day. Yes, that is the official holiday for bacon, which happens on August 31 each year.
