Iron Man 2: 1/4 Scale Mark V Suitcase Mobile Fuel Cell Will Keep You Powered up

Iron Man 2 may not have been one of the best Marvel movies made, but it had a lot of nice details and eye candy. Which is great for merchandising. Take the scene on the race track where Tony Stark’s armor comes to life from a suitcase. That was probably the best scene in the movie, so of course you can now buy that suitcase – as a battery pack.

It won’t turn into armor, but this prop replica will power your gadgets. The Mark V armor suitcase fuel cell is a 1/4 scale replica, and it was made from official Marvel references like the original prop and 3D digital files. Inside, it’s got a large 12,000 mAH battery pack, and the lights on the side of the briefcase indicate the power level remaining.

ROHM Solid Hydrogen Source Fuel Cell

ROHM Solid Hydrogen Source Fuel Cell[CEATEC 2013] Is the world suffering from a shortage in energy? It really depends on where you are living at the moment, and one of the major drawbacks that many of us face these days in the use of our gadgets happen to be the battery life – or rather, the lack of it. ROHM has come up with what they deem to be a revolutionary power generation system that will use just the right amount of hydrogen in order to produce the required amount of electricity, now how about that for efficiency?

It is touted to be a safe and new solid hydrogen fuel source, with a reactivity level that is around 1/1000 that of powder. How is it safe, you ask? Well, hydrogen is only produced when it reacts to water, and the only byproduct is not an explosion, but slaked lime – or calcium hydroxide if you want to get technical about things. ROHM has come up with a solid hydrogen source canister and a cartridge, where the latter will offer a full smartphone charge per use, while the former can power a 32” LCD TV for 3 hours. These are single use solutions that might come in handy during emergencies or when you travel, and hopefully it will be able to create a market of its own eventually with a justifiable cost for consumers.

Rohm showcases colorful solid hydrogen-source fuel cell chargers at CEATEC

Rohm showcases colorful solid hydrogensource fuel cell chargers at CEATEC

You know what makes a fuel cell charger in your pocket a little less frightening? Colors! CEATEC mainstay Rohm has arrived back in Japan with a new set of hydrogen-source fuel cell chargers, with the latest prototype lot boasting a litany of new hues that may very well match up with that iPhone 5c you’re (presumably) picking up soon. The actual technology used within hasn’t changed from last year, but the company is evidently considering the release of such portable chargers for those who’d prefer something a bit less drab. We’re told that a fully-fueled pack can keep the average smartphone alive for twice as long as it would otherwise last, but as has become the norm at this show, there’s nary a hint of a price / release date.
