Fujitsu Wants To Use Palm Vein Sensors In Place Of Fingerprints

Fujitsu Wants To Use Palm Vein Sensors In Place Of FingerprintsWhile fingerprint sensors on smartphones are starting to become more common, especially with the iPhone 5s and the Samsung Galaxy S5 picking up on the trend again, this kind of technology has actually be integrated into other consumer electronics in the past, such as laptops.

For the most part fingerprint sensors on laptops felt gimmicky and after a while they tended to stop working. However it seems that Fujitsu is planning on introducing a new type of biometrics into laptops that won’t require your fingerprint. Instead it might require your palm vein instead. (more…)

Fujitsu Tablet Prototype Lets You Feel Rough and Smooth Textures on Screen

Fujitsu has rolled out a prototype tablet that has a cool bit of tech inside. The tablet has haptic sensory technology inside that allows you to feel images on the screen. Users are able to feel smooth or rough textures depending on what is displayed on the screen.

    fujmagnify

The tablet uses ultrasonic vibrations to create a cushion of high-pressure air between the finger and the screen. That air acts like a cushion and makes the screen feel very smooth. Depending on what image is on the screen, the vibrations can be rapidly cycled to create the feeling of a rough surface.

Fujitsu is showing the tech off at Mobile World Congress 2014 with several images that do things like allow the user to feel the skin of an alligator, pluck virtual strings on a harp, or feel the sensation of opening a combination lock.

Fujitsu Prototype Tablet Has Haptic Screen Technology

Fujitsu Prototype Tablet Has Haptic Screen Technology[MWC 2014] Before MWC 2014 kicked off this year, we did take a look at a glove-style wearable device, and this time around, it would be a new prototype tablet that sports a touchscreen display which will be able to convey a sense of “slipperiness” or “roughness”, where all of this will depend on the kind of image that is being shown. This particular haptic, or tactic, sensory technology was specially developed by the folks over at Fujitsu Laboratories.

    Fujitsu Glove-Style Wearable Device

Fujitsu Glove Style Wearable DeviceNow here is a novel idea – how about infusing your glove with enough technology to make it a highly desirable wearable device? This is exactly what the folks over at Fujitsu have done, and their latest glove-style wearable device is one which flirts with the idea of gesture control. This is an NFC-enabled glove which has been described by Fujitsu to be able to function “reliably in multiple tasks and postures without being awkward.” Hmmm, I suppose it will take some getting used to in checking out this particular glove-style wearable device when someone is wearing it, since it is not exactly haute couture to begin with.

Fujitsu To Expand Raku Raku’s Availability n Europe

Fujitsu To Expand Raku Rakus Availability n EuropeBack in 2012, Fujitsu revealed a device in Japan called the Raku Raku, which was essentially a smartphone targeted towards the elderly. Given that most phones these days seem to focus more on crisp displays and sharp images, we guess in the process we forget that there are older folks who use smartphones too whose eyesight might not be what it used to be. Fujitsu attempted to expand outside of Japan with the Raku Raku smartphone and launched in France and apparently the device was quite a hit amongst the senior crowd of French carrier, Orange, to the point where Fujitsu has recently announced their plans to expand the availability of the Raku Raku smartphone to more parts of Europe.

According to Fujitsu’s chief executive, Masami Yamamoto, there were additional carriers in Europe who had approached the company after learning about the phone’s success on Orange. “We started off by offering it on a limited basis to French customers (in June), but orders have been so strong we have started to expand nationwide. The next step would be across Europe and of course we want to sell it worldwide.”

While Fujitsu making a loss as far as their mobile phones are concerned, the company has its feet planted and are looking more at the long-term, where Yamamoto thinks that there is a chance that companies such as Apple and Samsung could become irrelevant, and where Fujitsu would then be able to take over.
