Remember those days of your youth (or even middle age) when you would hang out at an arcade and take out your pent up anger and aggression playing Whack-A-Mole? Bring that joy back into your life and play Cat Whack-A-Mole with your favorite frisky feline. Okay, even the dog may want to get in on this action.
At the June 8 match between the Phoenix Mercury and the Indiana Fever, the WNBA introduced a new camera that put viewers incredibly close to the action on court. Made by Broadcast Sports Inc., the “ref cam” is a small camera that takes video from the referee’s perspective. Referee Lamont Simpson got first dibs on the wearable camera. I’m sure his whistle was highly insecure that day.
Here’s some of the shots that the camera took in its debut appearance:
And here’s a bonus clip from ESPN, showing Simpson calling a technical foul: Edit: ESPN made the YouTube video private. Sorry guys. Simpson said that he found it awkward at first. He said that he had to keep on adjusting the headset the entire first half because it moved around when he became sweaty. But he also said that he got used to it by the second half. Simpson can’t get too attached to it just yet though, because for now the ESPN and the WNBA will decide when the ref cam will be used. They should make pro golfers wear these so we can all tune in for some in-your-face walks in beautiful parks.
Admit it- You’ve always wanted to build a customized robot friend, but the limitations of modern science just keep giving us vacuum cleaners to step around. Thankfully, My Robot Nation found a worthwhile use for 3D printing to give you the robot of your dreams!
Tomorrow is the first day of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, and the big names in videogames will be presenting their latest consoles and software in full force. Lucky for you, I’ve got a cheat sheet for when and where you can watch the action live!
Okay, kiddies. Don’t try these at home. Some of them like… blow up and stuff. And that’s not good. What is good is that this brief video shows some really cool stuff about why science can be fun as well as educational…
I think we all know that inventors are awesome. Even when their inventions don’t work, they still show an incredible amount of creativity that many people don’t possess. I’m one of those people that can’t think that far out of the box to create something (other than art and fiction, that is). This video is a salute to inventors–and it’s pretty funny as well.
Popping bubble wrap is like a compulsive childhood addiction that never goes away, at least for some of us. You’ll have to fight that temptation when you see Bradley Hart’s artwork, which is made with thousands of paint-injected bubbles to create photorealistic mosaics. For all of you bubble wrap junkies, Hands Off!
If you’re ready to see what the latest trends, innovations and fashions are about to hit skateboarding and streetwear, then it’s time to get pumped for Agenda!
Is that weekly poker game with the guys (or gals) starting to feel just a bit lackluster? Have you tried just about every permutation of five card draw, seven card stud, and Texas hold ’em that you can think of? Perhaps it is time for a new deck of cards — one that will really change the game. It will be tough for everyone to keep a poker face when they are trying to figure out their hand when it is all one color.
In keeping with one of Coca-Cola’s slogans, this concept can allows soda drinkers to literally “share the happiness.” Coca-Cola has always been pretty creative with their ad campaigns (remember the ‘Open Happiness’ vending machine?) and they continue the trend with the Sharing Can.
The idea for the cans originated from ad agency Ogilvy & Mather Singapore. Basically, Sharing Cans are soda cans that can be split into two with a quick twist. You can keep one for yourself and hand the other off to your friend, your sister, or some random stranger who looks like they could use a cold drink. As an added bonus, you’ll cut your calorie consumption in half.
You can see how it works in the clip below.
Pretty awesome, huh? The Sharing Cans are currently being handed out by the ‘Happiness Truck’ to passersby in Singapore. It’s highly unlikely that Coke will make and sell these commercially, but here’s to hoping.
