Samsung Galaxy Camera accessories include flashes, wireless charging pad, barn doors (eyes-on)
Posted in: Today's ChiliSamsung’s going all out with its Galaxy Camera accessory lineup. In addition to the cases and Flip Covers we saw at Unpacked earlier this week, the company had some external flashes and professional-looking holsters on hand at its IFA booth, including a grip-mounted adjustable strobe, a ring light set and a sophisticated carrying rig, complete with hinged barn doors to block out unwanted glare. There were also hard covers in multiple dark colors, a handful of soft rubber-looking covers in light colors like aqua and lime green, along with an oversized wireless charging pad mock-up. In typical IFA fashion, booth attendants were unable to provide any information whatsoever, so it’s anyone’s guess what any of these gadgets cost, or if they’ll even make it to market. It’s also unclear whether or not any of the accessories are functional at this point, or simply mock-ups of add-ons under consideration. In the meantime, you can take a closer look in the gallery below.

50GB free Dropbox service confirmed for Samsung Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Camera
Posted in: Today's ChiliGood news, storage junkies: Dropbox and Samsung have renewed their vows with a deal that’ll provide 50GB of free storage for two years to owners of the new Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Camera. As you’d expect, this means the Dropbox app will be pre-installed, and it also ensures that users will have easier access to their media files. Before you get too excited, however, there’s no guarantee that this well-intentioned promotion will pass muster with US carriers — we’ve certainly seen a few hopes dashed in the past.

Samsung Galaxy Camera launched
Posted in: Today's ChiliDoes the world really need yet another digital camera? The correct answer would be an unequivocal and resounding, “Yes!”. Well, you know that the camera industry is going to continue moving forward with ever higher resolution, not to mention advancements in video recording technology, but how about the operating system of the camera? That has more often than not been overlooked, so Samsung might be on to something here with their maiden attempt at an Android-powered camera, the Samsung Galaxy Camera. Yes sir, we are referring to the mobile operating system from Google that sees actions on smartphones and tablets, now making its way to a camera. How does it fare? Hit the extended post to know more.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera can be said to be a smartphone sans the “phone” bit. After all, it will come with the most recent Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, not to mention carry a slew of connectivity options that would even turn some smartphones green with envy – such as 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi support. I am not quite sure whether mobile carriers will soon put the Samsung Galaxy Camera up for sale on a 2-year contract with a data plan thrown in for good, but time will tell.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera can be said to be the best Android-powered dedicated camera at this point in time, as its only competitor would be the Nikon Coolpix S800c, but that certainly loses out to the Samsung Galaxy Camera in many aspects. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Camera has the latest Android operating system version as opposed to Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the S800c, while it has a 21x optical touch zoom lens (vs 10x optical zoom on the Nikon) and a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor.
You can choose from three options – a 3G and Wi-Fi version, a 4G LTE and Wi-Fi version or a Wi-Fi-only model. What is your flavor of the day? I suppose that budget also has plenty of say in the final purchase decision.

Despite being the world second Android based camera, Sorry Samsung but Nikon bit you to it, the GALAXY Camera still win our heart! Indeed, unlike the Coolpix S800c, the GALAXY Camera runs on Android 4.1 instead of Android 2.3.3 the actual Android flavored installed on the Coolpix S800c. Is this the only difference? Hell No! The Galaxy Camera is in fact the real fusion between a Smartphone and a Camera and will be available in 3G + WiFi or 4G LTE + WiFi and will come with a nice 4.8″ 720p …

Why (Unfair, Expensive) Shared Data Plans Just Became the Inevitable Future [Shared Data]
Posted in: Today's Chili You’ll be forgiven for not paying too much attention to IFA, a giant tech conference taking place this week in Berlin. There have been some fine spectacles so far—84-inch, 4k TV anyone?—but for the most part, you’re not missing much. More »
We’ve seen the ins and outs of Samsung’s first Android-based digital camera, but how about an outer shell? You likely won’t be transporting this junbo point-and-shoot in your pocket, making a variety of protective options a necessity. First up is the Flip Cover — a camera-friendly variant of the Galaxy original, with a slide-in design and a large protective flap to cover up the LCD. There’s also a full-on carrying case, which slips open to reveal the lens while offering a bit more protection. And, if you’re going au naturel, you’ll want to suit up with a wrist strap at the very least, offering a bit of insurance against potential slips and spills. We don’t have pricing and availability info to share, but like the camera itself, it looks like there’s a bunch of color configurations to choose from, all pictured in the gallery below.

It looks as though the rumor mills were correct, Samsung was indeed working on an Android-powered camera, culminating in the Samsung Galaxy Camera (glad to see them keep things short and sweet in terms of the naming convention, unlike the Nikon Coolpix S800c where folks who do not follow the news won’t even know that it is Android-powered), with the Galaxy name being retained to indicate that it runs on the Android operating system. Carrying the tagline, “Camera, Reborn”, the Samsung Galaxy Camera puts to shame some of the newer smartphones as it packs the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, while delivering Wi-Fi connectivity. We have a photo gallery of the Galaxy Camera’s announcement and on-stage action right after the break. (more…)

Samsung Announces The Galaxy Camera: 4.8″ Display, 16MP CMOS Sensor, 21x Zoom, And Jelly Bean
Posted in: Today's ChiliAt the IFA conference in Berlin, Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Camera, a 4.8-inch Android-powered camera with WiFi, 3G (or 4G) connectivity, and a quad-core SoC.
See, digital cameras have lost their swagger. With the combination of pretty decent micro lenses and smartphones, the digital imaging sector has been left to the serious hobbyists and professionals. But Samsung, following a precedent set by the Nikon CoolPix S800c, is looking boost the point-and-shoot business with a dash of Android.
The camera has a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with 21x zoom. But when you flip that bad boy over, you won’t see a little 2-inch LCD. Instead, you’ll be met with the familiar Android homescreen (Jelly Bean, no less), on a 4.8-inch 720p SLCD display.
An Exynos quad-core SoC will sit under the hood, along with a 3G (or 4G) radio, Wifi, an expandable memory card slot and a 1650mAh battery.
It’s almost like an iPod touch, but with a focus on images instead of music. With the success of Instagram, and the general popularity of photo sharing, I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung’s digital camera performance sees a slight bump thanks to the Galaxy Camera.
The GalCam will be sold by wireless operators in the fourth quarter of 2012, much like smartphones.
