The original HTC One (M7) was more than just a decent smartphone – it was a high end flagship device that deserved its plaudits, but unfortunately, there was a perception issue with the brand that most probably limited its sales figure, registering sales of 5 million units within its first two months of availability. While that might sound impressive, relatively speaking, it fared poorly against the Samsung Galaxy S4 who outsold it by a whopping four times. We are talking about 20 million sold units within the same time window, at least according to recently published data.

Bloomberg has gotten hold of sales statistics concerning the 2013 flagships from Samsung and HTC respectively, and if you were to take Apple’s iPhone 5 in comparison, that handset did pretty well for itself too, at least better than the HTC One (M7) – selling a whopping 5 million units within the first five days of availability.

It does seem as though Samsung is king when it comes to high end Android-powered devices, which is not surprising at all considering the marketing budget of the South Korean conglomerate. Well, with the Samsung Galaxy S5 edging out the Galaxy S4 for its launch day sales figures, it would be interesting to find out some time down the road the total sales of the Galaxy S5 within the first fortnight.

While Samsung might be boasting about the Galaxy S5’s IP67 rating which makes it both water resistant and dustproof, they did not mention anything about durability, but then again the Galaxy S5 was not designed to be a rugged phone so we can only assume that if it were to be dropped or run over by a car, you’d probably have to go get yourself a new one.

That being said, the folks over at TechSmartt have decided to put the Galaxy S5 through a drop test and compare it again the Samsung Galaxy S4, its predecessor. Now both phones are made from plastic, although in the case of the Galaxy S5, it features a textured back similar to the Galaxy Note 3 albeit with a different feel, so there’s nothing about the phone that would make it more rugged. Slowly but surely Samsung is rolling out the much awaited Android 4.4.2 update for its existing devices, making sure that KitKat hungry users get their chocolate fix as soon as possible. After a pre-release build made its way online, Samsung has now started to roll out the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Android 4.4.2 update. This happens to be the first time that an Exynos powered variant of Samsung’s flagship smartphone has received the update prior to the Snapdragon variant, which is almost always the first to receive new updates.

It seems that Samsung is not quite done with the Samsung Galaxy S4 just yet, as they happen to be caught developing a brand new Galaxy S4 variant which is touted to be similar where its internals are concerned to the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505, save for the fact that it comes with additional color combinations as well as Android 4.4.2 KitKat right out of the box, thanks to the Bluetooth SIG. There will be a 5” Full HD display for your eyes to drool over, where a 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU would run proceedings from underneath the hood. This particular model number would be the GT-I9515, where it will carry the “Value Edition” suffix, and will arrive in black, white, brown, pink, purple, red and blue shades.

We reported yesterday that it was quite possible for Sprint to finally roll out Android 4.4 KitKat for its Galaxy S4 users in the very near future. A leaked memo pegged the release date on February 13th, and it has turned out to be spot on. Sprint Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 update is now available for download, users will now finally be able to jump up from Android 4.3 to the latest iteration of Google’s mobile operating system.
