Gamefly Launches Movie Rental Business

Gamefly Launches Movie Rental BusinessGamefly, the video game rental service provider, has decided to move into Netflix territory by introducing a new movie rental business which ought to prove to be a worthy competitor to Netflix’s disc-by-mail business, although that remains to be established. I suppose giving them some time to do so would help, so we will have to be patient in this particular case. Gamefly started to notify its existing customers concerning this particular service over email, at least according to a post on NeoGAF. Right now, this movie rental business is in beta mode, where the service has DVDs as well as Blu-ray discs on offer to those subscribers. Similar to its game rentals, subscribers will be able make a request for either one or two movies at any one time, and there is no need to start a separate account. That is a good thing, since it means one less username and password to remember.

U.S. Postal Service Ordered To Stop Showing Favoritism To Netflix Over Services Like Gamefly

In the world of DVD services that mail movies out to its customers, we can’t think of another service as popular and widely known as Netflix. Subscribers to its DVD-mailing service know a good time is a-comin’ when they spot that red envelope in their mailbox. But it turns out the postal service, you know, the people who are responsible for delivering your Netflix DVDs, have been discriminating in favor of Netflix mail compared to other similar services, like Gamefly.

Judges in Washington DC have ordered the Postal Regulatory Commission to end all discriminations against Gamefly, or at least “explain why treating GameFly differently than Netflix is reasonable.”

Apparently, the U.S. Postal Service has been manually sorting Netflix DVDs at no extra charge to the company, while other similar services, like Gamefly wasn’t shown the same favoritism, which could result in an “epidemic of broken discs.

We understand the movie industry is considered much bigger than the gaming industry, but showing that kind of favoritism to one company and not another when they both have identical services is ridiculous. We’re hoping the ruling changes how the postal service treats their DVD-mailing services and treats all of them with care.

BioShock PC available for free at GameFly

We’re all waiting anxiously for next year’s arrival of BioShock Infinite, but if you have yet to play any game in the series, then boy does GameFly have a deal for you. GameFly is currently giving away PC copies of the original BioShock for free. If you haven’t played it yet, we highly recommend you take advantage of this offer, as BioShock is easily one of the best games of this generation – there’s a reason everyone is so excited for BioShock Infinite, you know.

This promotion doesn’t have a solid end date, but GameFly does clarify that it can only give away so many copies. Therefore, it’s probably a good idea to download yours sooner rather than later, otherwise you might miss out. You’ll have to sign up for a GameFly account to get your copy, but as far as we can tell, the sign up process is free and doesn’t require that you sign up for any monthly plans.

Of course, there’s a good chance that you’ve already play BioShock, considering it launched to rave reviews back in 2007 and has been the focus of many sales since then. It actually runs for $20 normally on Steam, so you can save a decent chunk of change by picking it up for free over at GameFly. What better way to excited for BioShock Infinite than with a free copy of the game that started it all?

Keep in mind that BioShock is only available from GameFly in the US, Canada, and Mexico, so if you’re not living in one of those countries, you’re sadly out of luck. If you happen to miss out on this deal, never fear, as we’re sure it won’t be long before BioShock is knocked down to five bucks once again in a Steam sale. Will you be downloading a free copy of BioShock from GameFly?
