Gameloft Thinking About Implementing Immersive Mode For Its Android Games

Gameloft Thinking About Implementing Immersive Mode For Its Android GamesOne of the more welcome features of Android 4.4 KitKat would be its “immersive mode”. Basically what this does is that it hides the notification bar and the navigation panel as well, allowing users to enjoy apps full screen without any distractions, hence the the immersion into the app/game. Well the good news for Android gamers is that Gameloft, a developer of many popular mobile games, is considering adding immersive modes to its games in the future, thus taking advantage of the new immersive API that comes with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Gameloft has yet to confirm any of this, so don’t get your hopes up just yet, but we reckon it’s something worth looking forward to not just from Gameloft, but from other developers as well. It makes perfect sense for developers to take advantage of this API, but this would mean that big name developers such as Gameloft who have many titles under their name would have to update all their apps, which could take time. Not to mention this would require the gamer to own an Android 4.4 KitKat device, which at the moment aren’t that many yet.

Either way like we said this is something worth looking forward to in the future, but what do you guys think? Are you used to Android gaming the way it is, or would you prefer if developers were to take advantage of this feature?

Asphalt 8: Airborne launches with NVIDIA SHIELD, Tesla Model S, barrel rolls

The 8th generation of Gameloft’s rather successful racing game franchise is out today for both iOS and Android devices in Asphalt 8: Airborne. This game takes another step toward making a truly worthy translation of the 2008 movie Speed Racer to the gaming universe. Though it’s not Gameloft saying they’re doing so, it certainly appears […]

Gameloft, Amiga bringing hundreds of games to Windows platform

It’s all about the games. At least that’s what Gameloft and Amiga think. Both game studios have announced that they’ll be bringing a slew of their titles to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 over the next year. Right now, Gameloft is planning to release at least 15 games over the next twelve months. Gameloft […]

Gameloft and Amiga Games to release 56 titles on Windows 8, WP8 before 2014

Sure, Microsoft’s battle for next-gen supremacy starts in November, but those who lean on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 for their gaming just got a little something to look forward to. Gameloft is readying a total of 15 games that’ll arrive within the next 12 months and launch simultaneously on both platforms. Before the year’s up, you can expect to see Asphalt 8: Airborne, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Dungeon Hunter 4, Six Guns, Total Conquest and UNO & Friends, with the remaining games breaking cover next year. The recently-acquired Amiga Games will churn out 50 titles of its own onto Microsoft’s desktop and mobile OS before year’s end, and could bump the total up to 500 afterwards. Details on which games we’ll see first weren’t divulged, but the outfit says they’ll make use of the operating system’s features such as live tiles and Snap and Share, as well as cross-platform data sharing. For a look at what’s to come, head past the break for a fresh Asphalt 8 trailer.

Thor: The Dark World mobile game heralds incoming film

This week Gameloft continues their high-powered relationship with Marvel Comics in a teaser for no less than Thor: The Dark World. This came will be appearing on Android devices as well as Apple mobile devices of all kinds – iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch included, and will be appearing close to the release of the film itself, later this year. What you’ll see in this game is another birds-eye-view of a superhero, keeping with the successful modes introduced in games such as the Amazing Spider-Man not too long ago.

    ahw

Gameloft’s approach with games such as these is the same – it would seem, and appears to have been proven several times over – as those full-fledged original storyline games they’ve been releasing for years. They put in just as much effort here as they would their own title, so to speak, this breaking the trend of major-label movie-sourced concepts released alongside Hollywood films almost without fail since the dawn of video games.

Here you’re going all-in, complete with support and updates well after the film is released.

“Thor: The Dark World – The Official Game will allow fans of the franchise to play as one of Marvel’s most iconic Super Heroes in a game of epic scope and beauty. With this new game, we are further expanding the successful relationship between Marvel and Gameloft.” – Javon Frazier, VP Games Marketing at Marvel

Unfortunately you’ll not be able to get your hands on this title until later this Fall, again much closer to the actual release of the movie itself. Unlike Gameloft’s release of Iron Man 3, this game relies a bit more on a more traditional gaming structure, aiming to bring Thor to you from overhead, allowing you a full-on god-like vision of your environment. Strike true!

BONUS: Can’t wait to play it on NVIDIA SHIELD? Not surprising, especially given the original code-name. We’ll still have to wait until Autumn though, no matter how hardcore the combination might be – stay tuned!

Asphalt 8: Airborne official: new maps, physics and weather effects

We’ve been waiting for a new Asphalt game to hit Android for a while now. As expected, Asphalt 8: Airborne includes new maps, a

Tango launches social platform SDK, brings its chat layer to other apps

Tango builds a social platform SDK, adds chat to Gameloft titles and more

Tango has wanted to expand beyond the basics of multi-platform messaging for awhile, going so far as to add games within its own app. It now wants to become the social glue for just about everyone: it’s launching a platform for other apps. The new SDK both integrates Tango chat into titles and make its easy to send app invitations to anyone using Tango, with leaderboards when games are involved. The company has garnered some early support from developers like Bubble Gum Interactive and Gameloft, which plan to release Tango-aware iOS versions of Jetpack Jinx and Candy Block Breaker in the near future. Android users will have to wait until July to get their shot at these two games, but developers who want more sociable apps can apply to use the SDK today.

Iron Man 3 mobile game capitalizes on pre-movie hype

Gameloft has been teasing its Iron Man 3 game for a few weeks now by releasing a couple of trailers showing off some of the new features. However, the game is now available for your disposal, and it comes just one week before the theatrical release of the movie with the same name, which is set for May 3.

    slashgear-0000

The game features an endless-runner aspect, where you fly through the sky defeating various enemies while trying not to get yourself killed. You’ll take on four villains from the Iron Man comic book series, including Crimson Dynamo, Ezekiel Stane, Living Laser, and M.O.D.O.K., all of which will provide a bit of challenge in order to get to the next round.

Your character (Tony Stark) will also be responsible for running Stark Industries and you’ll be able to research and develop up to 18 Iron Man suits that you can wear and fly around in. The game also offers three different locations to keep you occupied, which include Malibu Shores, New York City, and China.

    slashgear-0001

The game is free and is available now for both iOS and Android, but you’ll also be able to spend money on weapon upgrades, as well as special tricks and “HP”. These come in the form of in-app purchases, so while the game is free, you’ll ultimately have to pay money if you want to get through the game quicker.
