Amazon lets you upgrade select Xbox 360 games to Xbox One versions for $10

DNP Amazon promo lets you trade in select Xbox 360 games for Xbox One counterparts for $10

A week or so ago, Gamestop introduced a promotional campaign that would allow PowerUp members to upgrade certain Xbox 360 titles to their Xbox One equivalents for only $9.99. Well, Amazon must’ve thought that was a pretty good idea, because it just unveiled a trade-in offer of its own. The promotion only applies to certain titles such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4, NBA 2K14, Watch Dogs, Madden NFL 25 and Need for Speed Rivals. Simply ship the Xbox 360 version of the game to Amazon to be approved, and you’ll get a $25 bonus credit on top of the title’s trade-in value of at least $25.

Bear in mind that the promotion can only be used once. If multiple games are selected, the discount is for the cheapest item only — the credit will be applied automatically upon checkout. Of course, if you simply waited until November to get the next-gen console along with the next-gen game, you’ll save $10. But we know some people just can’t resist the latest and greatest of multiplayer first-person shooters. If you’re keen on taking advantage of the offer, you had better do it before December 31st however, as that’s when it expires.

The Oculus Rift has been available to developers for quite some time now, and it’s been out in the ether long enough that there are plenty of demos and games that have been made, but there’s no central place to get all of these fine creations, until now. Oculus has launched Share, a new app […]

How One Perfect Shot Saved Pinball From Being Illegal

How One Perfect Shot Saved Pinball From Being Illegal

In May of 1976 in New York City, Roger Sharpe watched nervously as city council members piled into a Manhattan courtroom. Reporters and camera operators had already begun setting up, eagerly anticipating the proceedings ahead. Roger, a young magazine writer for GQ and the New York Times among others, did not expect this kind of attention. He knew lots of people, from bowling-alley-hanging teens to the Music & Amusement Association, were depending on him, but didn’t realize the whole country would be watching. Roger had been selected for this particular task not only for his knowledge and expertise, but for his legendary hand-eye coordination. He was there to prove that this was a game of skill, not chance. He was there to overturn the ban. He was there to save the game of pinball.

Call of Duty: Ghosts PC version said to outperform next-gen consoles

It’s long been a solid argument by PC gamers that PC hardware can always outperform consoles any day, but the lack of focus on PC games by developers has lead to a bottleneck of sorts, where studios are simply porting console games to PC without optimizing it to use PC hardware to its fullest extent. […]

Xbox 360 sales reach dismal low, still the best-selling console in the US

The Xbox 360 is on its last legs before the Xbox One officially launches in November to take over the throne, but Microsoft’s current gaming console is still the best-selling console in the US right now, claiming 31 straight months of being on the top of best-selling list, surpassing the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo […]

Games for Windows Live marketplace closing next week

Microsoft has decided to shut down its Games for Windows Live marketplace, with the official axe arriving next week on August 22. This means that PC gamers will no longer be able to purchase games from the Games for Windows Live store. However, the client software itself will remain unaffected, and any previously purchased games […]

Microsoft to stop selling PC games on Xbox.com on August 22nd

Microsoft to stop selling PC games on Xbox.com from August 22nd

If Microsoft hiring a former Valve employee wasn’t proof enough that it’s looking to overhaul the Windows gaming experience, it’s now announced that PC titles will be dropped from the Xbox.com store come August 22nd. An announcement on the Xbox support page loosely ties the closure to the impending death of MS points in favor of real currency, although we can’t see how they’re necessarily related. If you’ve splurged on PC games and extra DLC through the Xbox storefront, not to worry, as everything will continue to be accessible though the Games for Windows Live client, which will persist unaffected. Additional game content will also remain on sale in some instances, but that’ll vary by title.

When the PC Marketplace within Xbox.com does shut down, any Windows Live games published by Microsoft won’t be available anywhere, although one can only assume they’ll return to some new platform in the future. Newer PC games and XBLA ports are up for grabs in the Windows 8 store, of course, so perhaps MS will end up offering them there. Or, maybe it’s time to revive the dedicated portal model — that seems to be working for the other guys.
