Zynga CEO Don Mattrick makes changes, three executives to leave says sources

Earlier this summer, Zynga‘s previous CEO stepped down to make way for former Microsoft executive Don Mattrick, who has the substantial task of pulling the company from its dregs. As part of that task, Mattrick has reportedly made some restructuring changes and as a result three top executives will be resigning and leaving the company. […]

Pixelate Wants You to Play with Your Food

Games make life a whole lot more fun, and mealtimes are no exception. The latest food-related game is Pixelate, and it’s unlike most eating games you’ve played before.

Like most, it involves stuffing your face with food as fast as you can. The extra challenge is you have to follow the order indicated on the interactive dinner table.

Pixelate was created by Royal College of Art students Sures Kumar and Lana Z. Porter. Basically, players compete to eat what’s on their plates in the correct sequence as displayed on its screen. Whoever finishes everything fastest wins. It’s like Guitar Hero or Tetris, but with food instead of musical notes or falling blocks.

It’s a simple game with a complicated table to play it on. The table itself was developed using Arduino and OpenFrameworks. You don’t have to rely on human witnesses to tell who’s the winner, because the table can determine that much on its own. It does so by detecting the resistance for the food touching the forks that are connected to it. Neat, huh?

Pixelate sounds like a simple concept… until you check out its execution and realize it’s not that simple after all.

Nintendo Wii U cost isn’t the reason for poor sales, says Iwata

It’s no secret that Wii U sales are going downhill, and many critics are suggesting that a price drop of the console will boost the number of units that the company sells. However, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that the pricing model of the Wii U isn’t the issue, but rather the relatively low number […]

Tango introduces Road Riot: its first original in-app game

DNP Road Riot for Tango

Tango has added five titles to its gaming platform since it was launched in June, but this is the first time the company’s introducing one created by its in-house team. The game, called Road Riot, pays homage to arcade classic Spy Hunter and involves firing cannons and dodging missiles in the midst of a race. While it’s neither groundbreaking nor original, you’ve got to give Tango props — the company claims it went through the process to better understand the platform and concoct updates that’ll benefit developers. Similar to the other games on the messaging app, Road Riot‘s rife with social elements, including the ability to broadcast high scores and to invite friends to play. Only Android users can kill time while blasting 2D cars for now, however — the iOS version won’t be out until late August.

OK Glass, pew pew pew: developer creates alien shooter for Google Glass

OK Glass, pew pew pew developer creates alien shooter for Glass

Developers (or should we say “Explorers”) are coming up with all sorts of nifty ideas for Google Glass, and games are certainly getting their fair share of attention. Admittedly, we haven’t seen anything quite like Psyclops, an alien shooter that’s currently in the works by developer Sean McCracken. The premise of the game isn’t new — alien ships are attacking our home planet and it’s our sworn duty to protect Earth by blowing them up — but the method is: use Glass as your viewfinder, line the baddies up with the center of the display and hold for a moment to lock your position and fire. Sean thinks of the game as a “3D Space Invaders mixed with Missile Command,” which sounds like a perfect mashup. There’s no word on when fellow Glass users will be able to enjoy the title, but you’ll find video evidence of its existence below. Just don’t expect Lt. Commander Data to save you with his flashlight when you get hooked.
