As part of a recent top level management shift, Phil Spencer was crowned as the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division. A few months back when there was endless speculation about Steve Ballmer’s successor, it was rumored multiple times that the new CEO could potentially sell off the Xbox division. When Satya Nadella got the job, he initially said that Microsoft must focus on mobile and cloud. The fact that he left Xbox out of that discussion added more fuel to the fire, though Nadella later did acknowledge the importance of the company’s gaming arm.
In an interview with Edge Magazine, Spencer confidently says that Xbox will continue to remain a part of Microsoft, adding that the division will play a major part in the company’s future strategy. “Xbox is maybe the most relevant brand that Microsoft has with consumers today,” Spencer said. This should hopefully quash rumors for now that Microsoft is looking to dump its Xbox division.
Interestingly, Phil Spencer happens to be the first senior Microsoft executive to directly talk about sale rumors. Spencer has also promised in the interview that additional Kinect titles will be released later this year. Moreover, he revealed that more exclusive titles will be launched for the Xbox One soon.

Logitech is one of the most popular names in computer peripherals and makes some of the best gaming mice and keyboards out there. When it comes to gaming mice, many gamers want the most sensitivity they can get. Logitech’s latest mouse is called the G502 Proteus Core has up to 12,000 dpi sensitivity that can be controlled from 200 dpi up to 12,000 dpi.
The user can tune the infrared sensor to make it work optimally on almost any surface no matter the color or reflectivity of that surface. It’s unclear if this sensor will work on glass or not though. The mouse also has a weight tuning system that give the user control over feel and balance.
Logitech also gave the mouse its own ARM processor and internal memory so macros can be bound to the 11 programmable buttons. Under each of those buttons is a mechanical micro-switch that offers tactile feedback and longevity. It also has a dual mode hyperscroll wheel like many of Logitech’s mice.
The G502 will ship this month in the US and Europe for $79.99(USD), and is available for preorder now.
Just when you were wondering about the next evolution of video game controllers, along comes engineers over at Stanford University who have come up with a modified video game controller which is capable of actually reading a player’s emotions, and then follow that reading up with an appropriate reaction. Sounds uncanny, doesn’t it? This particular controller enhancement happens to be a prototype at this point in time, where it has been fitted on the back of an Xbox 360 controller that will keep track of pulse and respiration rates of players.
These unique biometric readings will be able to let the controller figure out the approximate level of air that goes in and out of players’ lungs, which will be a good indication of their bodies’ reaction to events that happen within the game itself.
The whole exercise behind this move? The group of Stanford engineers intend to have the game be more responsive and reactive to the player’s emotion at that point in time, changing the reaction of the game itself. For instance, if one were to play a shoot ‘em up and the heart rate is too slow for the game developer’s comfort, then throwing in more enemies that fire crazy patterns of bullets might just spruce things up a wee bit.

Blizzard’s MMORPG, World of Warcraft, is a very old game, but yet extremely popular due to Blizzard constantly updating the game with content patches as well as scheduling new expansions that adds major content to the game, like new raid zones, new classes, races, and so on.
The upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion is no different and in a recent blog post by Blizzard’s Steven Aguilar, the lead animator for World of Warcraft, he shares some of the changes that Blizzard has been making to the character models and giving them a much deserve upgrade in terms of textures, animation, and even facial expressions that could go a long way in revitalizing the otherwise aging game.
Some of the changes that have been made were done to the standing/idle position, facial expressions, and even making the character’s mouth move according to different sounds and expressions, like “ah”, “eee”, “oh”, “ooo”, and “f”. Perhaps this might not matter so much since you’re pretty much looking at the back of your character, but you will be able to see it when interacting with others, like NPCs, which could add to the gameplay and make it more immersive.
Not all the changes are very obvious and some of them are pretty subtle, so if you have some time to spare, do check out the videos above and below to see the changes that Blizzard has made to the Tauren character mode (more can be found on Blizzard’s website)l, and leave your comments below and let us know what you think about the changes Blizzard has made so far! Yay or nay? Does this make you want to get back into the game?
