TARDIS VW Beetle: Fahrverwhügen

This TARDIS VW Beetle is all timey-whimey and bigger on the… outside. Which is pretty normal. I remember when the 3rd Doctor had a car that he used to drive around in and fight monsters with. The next Doctor should have a Beetle like this.

tardis beetle
We need more Timelord driving around crashing into things and less Timelord flying around in a box whining about his name. Remember that crack in time? I bet it started on the windshield of this VW. Probably happened when he let Clara drive.

Impossible girl my arse! Impossible that she passed her driver’s test. Impossible that she didn’t see that Dalek in the middle of the road. It’s impossible for her to get cheap insurance rates – that’s what’s impossible.

1953 Volkswagen Turned into a Ball Aka the Bumblebee Armadillo

Bumblebee, you’re doing it wrong. Or maybe he just got scared and decided to roll into a ball. This vehicular sculpture was actually made by Indonesian artist Ichwan Noor. He created this Volkswagen sphere that is 1.8 meters across out of the parts of actual Volkswagen Beetle.

volkswagen

To put it in more artsy-fartsy terms:

The sculpture’s visual form yields an impression of a sphere – the basis of all forms. The shape of a car is pressed onto the spherical form, producing a dynamic movement, a certain flexibility, but also fragility. It is a concept of “totems” that is embraced/believed by the people of today.

Or maybe it’s just cool because someone crushed a car into a ball and it looks like Bumblebee. Yeah, that’s why I like it.

Lightsaber Crochet Hook Makes You Obi-Wan Craftobi

We’ve seen plenty of nifty crocheted Star Wars items and I’m sure we will see more. But a real Jedi Master crafter uses a weapon like this awesome lightsaber crochet hook.

Imagine what you could create with this lightsaber. It’s an elegant crafting weapon for a more civilized age. These cool crafting implements are made by Cherelled and are just $15(USD).

They are made from polymer clay. If you want to make one yourself, the tutorial for the grip can be found here. Craft or craft not. There is no try.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Crochet: Heroes in a Snail Shell

Teenage Mutant Ninja Snails are just like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They can be found in sewers, and I bet they love pizza too. Sadly, they can’t reach their weapons. And bad guys can always track them by their slime trail.

3D Printed Sugar Sculptures Look Too Good to Eat

If you’re a regular follower of Technabob, you know I’m a big fan of 3D printing tech. As prices come down, and speed and accuracy come up, 3D printers will become ubiquitous. While most 3D printing is done by melting plastic, did you know that you sugar can be used to make 3D prints too?

3d printed sugar 1

Kyle and Liz von Hasseln of The Sugar Lab have developed a method for printing complex geometric forms using sugar. They intend on using their technology to create sugar sculptures for topping cakes, but many of their current examples stand on their own as works of art.

3d printed sugar 3

The duo previously developed a 3D printing method which used the light produced by an off-the-shelf printer, and moved by a robotic arm, to create large sculptures out of resin.

3d printed sugar 5

It’s unclear what method is used to print their sugar sculptures, though it involves alternating sugar layers with water and alcohol to harden the sculptures as they’re printed.

If you’re interested in incorporating 3D printed sugar sculptures into your event, you can contact them over on their website for more information.

Kame Camera App Breathes New Life into Your Japanese Photo Memes

Remember those photo memes that recently went viral? The one that features a classic Dragon Ball or Street Fighter inspired pose where someone blasts everyone off to kingdom come, and the one that’s inspired from Darth Vader’s signature force choke?

These photos are already fun as they are, but an app that can add even more to these shots that are intended to go viral has been released. It’s called the Kame Camera app and it’ll breath some Manga-inspired life into your photo memes.

Collages Made from Comic Book Pages: Typographic Violence

Most comic book lovers handle their comics with care. Some of them even buy multiples of one issue or book just to have a perfectly mint copy in hand. But not Amy Watkins. She believes that if you love someone – or something – you have to cut them to pieces and turn them into another art form. KAPOW!

Watkins turns her old comics into collages that highlight comic book sound effects, from Nightcrawler’s teleportation sound to the oldie but goodie pows and blams.

You can see images of Watkins’ other collages on Design Taxi, but if I were you I’d snap up the four collages I featured on this post. Watkins is selling them on her Etsy shop PopUpCollage for just $35-$45 (USD). Those are criminally low prices for such unique and wonderful pieces. She also accepts custom orders for $50, where you get to pick the colors and sound effect to be featured.

There’s a Downpour in MoMA’s ‘Rain Room’, But You Won’t Get Wet

You never know what you’ll find or walk into when you’re at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. For example, Random International’s ”Rain Room” is currently on display there until July 28th.

Being true to its name, you’ll be greeted by a torrent of falling water once you step into it. The coolest thing, though, is that you won’t ever get wet despite the fact that it’s (artificially) raining cats and dogs.

rain room

Rain Room is a field of falling water that pauses wherever a human body is detected—offering visitors the experience of controlling the rain. Using digital technology, Rain Room is a carefully choreographed downpour—a monumental work that encourages people to become performers on an unexpected stage, while creating an intimate atmosphere of contemplation.

Viewers are kept dry thanks to the sensors on the roof that temporary halts the downpour of water on the spot where they’re standing. The experience is best described as surreal, since it’s the only time you’ll be able to walk through rain without getting wet and without an umbrella.

Samurai Fett Custom Star Wars Action Figure: Boba Blade

He’s squat, he’s got tusks, twin blades, much honor, and he is on the hunt for Han Solo. He is Samurai Fett. This sweet custom made Star Wars inspired Boba Fett samurai action figure was created by Emmanuel Pérez del Río, and it looks amazing.

This thing kicks ass. There’s no way that this Fett wouldn’t have survived the Sarlacc pit. Be sure to hit up that link above because there are a ton of images of this one and other awesome samurai figures he has created.

This guy needs to get with a toy company and let the masses enjoy playing with these things. I’d love to see a whole series of Samurai Star Wars characters.

Color-Changing LED Scarf Will Match Your Every Outfit

This scarf will never go out of style for one reason: because it adapts to match your outfit, whatever pattern or color you’re wearing. I think the concept behind this fashionable piece is pretty self-explanatory. The scarf is embedded with LED lights all over that changes color automatically based on what it’s wearer currently has on.

LED Scarf

You can’t buy this scarf anywhere, although you can make one of your own. The tutorial is posted online on Adafruit Learning System, which explains that the scarf uses “the Flora color sensor and 12 color-changing LED pixels diffused by a ruffly knit scarf.” Check it out in action below:

How’s that for convertible and interactive fashion?
