Giveaway: RoboForm Pro Password & Form Filler

For many people, RoboForm is considered to be one of those must-have applications for any Windows computer. I know quite a few people who are using the free version, but there are several restrictions such as only being able to store 10 passcards (these are basically stored passwords). With the Pro version you can store as many passcards, identities, credit cards, and addresses as you’d like.

RoboForm has all kinds of features that are not only designed to make you more productive, but also more secure. Your passwords are encrypted before they are stored making it difficult for someone else to gain access to them should they ever get access to your RoboForm data. Plus, you’ll also be able to use more secure passwords now that you won’t have to remember them.

The best part about RoboForm would have to be how smoothly it works. For example, when you normally save a password in your browser it will remember the username and password fields. RoboForm, however, takes it a step further. It will also remember other fields in the login form such as a “remember me” checkbox. A single click on a RoboForm passcard pulls up the associated website, fills in the login form, and submits it for you. Talk about a time saver!

Here are some of the other features in RoboForm Pro:

  • Remembers your passwords and logs you in automatically
  • Fills out long registration and checkout forms with one click
  • Encrypts your passwords to achieve complete security (AES, Blowfish, RC6, 3-DES or 1-DES)
  • Generates random secure passwords to maximize password strength
  • Fight phishing by entering passwords only on matching web sites
  • Defeats keyloggers by not using the keyboard to type passwords
  • Backs up your passwords and copies them between computers
  • Works with IE, AOL/MSN, and Firefox

–The Giveaway–

We have 10 licenses to RoboForm Pro (valued at $29.95 each) to giveaway today! All you have to do is drop a comment below providing both your name and email address in the appropriate fields. We obviously need your email address for contacting you in the event that you should win. Believe it or not we’ve actually had winners in previous giveaways get randomly selected, but since they didn’t provide an email address we had to pick someone else.

Just as with all of our giveaways we will be using a random number generator to determine the winners. For this round here is how we’re going to give out the licenses:

  • 1 winner will be picked from comment numbers 1 through 5
  • 9 winners will be picked from comment numbers 1 through however many comments there are.

Entries for the giveaway will be accepted up until December 11th at 7:00PM Central Time.

CyberNotes Giveaway: NoteScraps is the Perfect Post-it Note Replacement

This article was written on April 23, 2007 by CyberNet.

CyberNotes
Microsoft Monday

Notescraps1One of the ways that I keep myself organized is by writing little notes here and there, and making “to-do” lists. It’s suited me well, but the problem is that sometimes the notes have important information that I want to hang on to, and so I never throw them out. I end up with a desk and monitor filled with post-it notes, and finding notes when I need them turns into a hideous task. I knew there had to be a better way to manage my little notes, but I just wasn’t sure what.

My problem was solved recently when I was introduced to NoteScraps which does exactly what my post-it notes have done for me all along, except better! NoteScraps is a program for Windows Vista or Windows XP to help you store all of the bits of information that you’d normally write down.  The difference being, not only can you take notes, you can search your notes to find the one that you’re looking for.

Features

  • Each note is automatically time stamped so that you know when you wrote it.
  • Use shift + windows key + “N” to open a new note
  • Use shift + windows key + “F” to search your notes
  • Clean, simple interface with no menus
  • Color-code notes with a choice of 5 different colors

Another nice feature is that you’re able to export all of your notes.  All you have to do is go to your My Documents folder, and find the NoteScraps folder.  Within that folder you’ll find one document with all of your notes in plain text.

My two favorite features are that you’re able to color-code your notes, and you can search them.  Color coding has been extremely helpful because I’ve chosen one color for work related notes, and another color for home related notes.

If you’re using the trial version, you’re limited to 10 notes, and for the majority of the people, that’s enough. If you’d need more than 10 notes open at a time you can purchase NoteScraps for $20.00. It requires .NET Framework 3.0 if you’re using windows XP.

Notescraps

Suggestions

So far over the last few weeks that I’ve been using NoteScraps, I’ve found it to be the perfect replacement for all of my post-it notes. However, there are a few things I’d like to see changed. First, I’d like to see simple formatting like bullets and bold text. There are certain things in my notes that I’d like to have stand out. I’d also like an option to quickly delete a note. As it stands, you need to select all of the text within a note and press delete.  An X in the corner would be helpful.

I’d also like to be able to choose the order of my notes.  Right now it shows the most recently modified item first.  This is a logical way to do it, however, I’d like to be able to select which note goes where.

I realize that the application isn’t intended to be feature intensive. There are applications that are designed with all of the bells and whistles like EverNote which was just recently mentioned in the Forum. However, I think a few small changes like the addition of a delete button and minimal formatting would make NoteScraps even better.

Wrapping it up

Notescraps2NoteScraps is the perfect post-it note replacement, and a great way to keep all of your scraps of information organized in one location. I love that I’m able to color-code each of my notes, and that I’m able to easily search my notes using the find feature.

Remember, you can download the free trial that never expires and you’ll be able to use 10 notes.  You can delete notes and create new ones, you just can’t ever exceed 10 at a time.  The paid version while a bit high in price at $20.00, gives you unlimited notes. Just download the trial, and then once you have the trial installed, you’ll see the option to “Buy Now.”

My desk and my monitor are finally free of post-it notes, and now all of my important bits of information have been moved to NoteScraps.

Giveaway!

If you think that NoteScraps would be useful, leave a comment below.  We’ll select five people at random who will get the full version of NoteScraps valued at $20.00!

  • This is open to anybody over the age of 18 worldwide with an email address, except void where prohibited.
  • You MUST include an email address in the email field of the comment (this is not displayed publicly) because we will be passing on the five winning email addresses to the developers so that they can email the license code to you.
  • Only one entry per person. If more than one entry is submitted, all entries will be void.

You have until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, April 24th to enter. Winners will be announced Wednesday morning on April 25th.

This one is for all of the music junkies out there! MediaMonkey is very much renowned for being the best media manager available. It’s been downloaded a staggering 2.6 million times from Download.com, received 5 out of 5 stars from the Download.com editors, and has earned 4 out of 5 stars from over 600 users who have voted. If that’s not a recipe for a great application I don’t know what is.

If you’ve been following our Daily Downloads you’ll know that MediaMonkey is on the verge of releasing version 3 (note: all screenshots in this article are taken from MediaMonkey 3 RC3). This release is anticipated by all MediaMonkey users because of the new built-in podcast management, improved Vista compatibility, better search features, and much more. Yep, I said podcast support:

That means you can toss in the towel on iTunes without sacrificing the functionality that you crave!

MediaMonkey has a plethora of options for all of the power users out there who have to have things their own way! You can configure everything from dozens of keyboard shortcuts/hotkeys, plug-ins, automatic podcast downloading, CD ripping, and more:

AT&T offering a free month of Zune to folks who buy a Windows Phone 7 handset this year (update: 3-month Zune Pass from MS, and free Xbox 360s in Austria!)

We already knew AT&T was giving away ilomilo and a free month of U-verse Mobile to folks who buy one of its glorious Windows Phone 7 phones. What else? Well, AT&T is tossing in a free month of Zune Pass for good measure. Now, Microsoft already offers 14 day free trials to the Zune-curious, and there’s nothing stopping other carriers or Microsoft itself extending this deal to the rest of the world — we think the “first one’s free” method of addiction generation is particularly great for subscription music. Still, it’s nice to know AT&T has such an offer sewn up. Now that the Xbox is getting a native Zune UI at long last, how about a free month of Zune for Xbox Live subscribers as well? Microsoft can afford it.

[Thanks, Morgan G.]

Update: We just heard that Austrian carrier A1’s offering a free Xbox 360 4GB to everyone signing up for or extending a contract for a HTC Trophy on October 21st only, and there’ll also be a Xbox 360 raffle for 360 lucky pre-orderers. If you so desire, A1 will also let you sign up for two contracts and take two Xboxes home as well. Our tipster added that the company isn’t known for doing giveaways, so it’s very likely that it’s getting a little help from Microsoft. [Thanks, Ben M.]

And speaking of which, another eagle-eyed reader spotted that Microsoft is giving away three-month Zune Passes to those signing up for the WP7 pre-order notification and actually buying a phone. Go get it while it’s hot! [Thanks, Bryan]

The CyberNet Windows Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 Giveaway Winners are…

This article was written on February 04, 2007 by CyberNet.

A big thanks to everybody who entered in the CyberNet Windows Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 Professional Giveaway. There were over 300 entries!

The magic number was… 3,420!

So, how did we come up with such a number? Well, we started with three important numbers before placing them into an equation. The important numbers that we started with were:

  1. 2007 – The year these products were released.
  2. 1985 – The year that Windows 1.0 was released according to Wikipedia.
  3. 26 – The number of different versions of Windows according to Wikipedia.

Some of these numbers could probably be arguable, but this is what we used. Next, we came up with an equation of…

(2007+1985) – [(2007-1985) * 26] = 3,420

Didn’t I tell you not to waste your time trying to figure it out? :)

The Winners are….

  • In first place was entry #280 – ATMB with a number of 3,414.
  • In Second place was entry #15 – RKN with a number of 3,456

We have already sent out an email on Friday to the first place winner asking what their choice would be with no response.  (Note to ATMB, first place winner: if you have not received our email, check your spam folder or send us a message.)

In the event that we do not hear from the first place winner to claim their prize by Wednesday at 12:00 PM central time, the second place winner will be named as the 1st place winner, and a new runner-up will be chosen.

Again, thanks to all who entered, and congratulations to the winners!

Microsoft to employees: ‘everybody gets a Windows Phone 7!’

Microsoft guru extraordinaire Mary Jo Foley has retweeted a company employee boasting of a commitment to hand out Windows Phone 7 devices to each and every one of Redmond’s 90,000-plus employees around the world. That’s certainly one way to spread the word — and realistically, the cost to Microsoft is a drop in the bucket if they can really take advantage of the word-of-mouth advertising effect here. Of course, step one in that process is going to be making sure the product is absolutely rock solid by the time those gratis units start getting handed out. Microsoft staffers do know how to multitask when they’re working, right?

AT&T handing out free 3G MicroCells to loyal customers?

While we’ve no clue how widespread AT&T’s generosity is, or how you might get one, it appears that the company’s “most valuable customers” are now receiving free range-boosting femtocells. Today, loyal reader Jason got a old-fashioned paper letter in the mail, offering his iPhone-wielding family a 3G MicroCell with no strings attached. Driving down to the local AT&T store, he got the product, but the dumbfounded reps offered no explanation why. Though his calls do frequently drop at home, Jason says he wasn’t terribly vocal about the issue and only pays around $180 per month for his family plan — the only thing that might possibly qualify him, in his opinion, is that his contract was set to expire. We’ve reached out to AT&T for more information; in the meanwhile, see Jason’s letter after the break.

[Thanks, Jason]
