Delta International In Flight Wi Fi Rollout Could Begin By March

With the FAA warming up to use of personal electronic devices during all phases of the flight, it is now up to airlines to offer reliable connectivity options to their passengers. In-flight Wi-Fi is nothing new, but some airlines have been limited to offering the service within the country, Delta is one of those airlines. While the airline was one of the first to latch on to Gogo’s in-flight Wi-Fi service and start offering it on routes in the U.S., it is yet to do so on flights that go across the pond and further. Fliers on Delta should now be relieved as the airline could start offering in-flight Wi-Fi on international routes as soon as next month.

Gogo Launches Talk & Text In Flight Service

Gogo Expands In-Flight Wi-Fi Internationally With Japan Airlines

Gogo Expands In Flight Wi Fi Internationally With Japan Airlines

Gogo is a company that provides in-flight Wi-Fi services on domestic flights in the U.S. on select airlines. Today, it announced its first ever international expansion to Japan. The company has partnered up with Japan Airlines to provide in-flight Wi-Fi service on the airline’s 77 domestic aircraft, full roll out of the service is expected to be completed in summer 2014. The in-flight Wi-Fi service will be powered by Gogo’s Ku band satellite technology, which has been built up for the purpose of international expansion. Using the same technology, Delta is also going to offer Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi on its international flights in the near future.

According to Gogo, currently there are over 2,000 commercial aircraft equipped with its service, allowing users to browse the internet in the skies. Its partners include American Airlines, Delta, Alaska, Virgin America and more. JAL’s entire domestic fleet of 77 aircraft is the first significant international expansion venture that Gogo has dived in to. The company hasn’t said where it intends to expand next. Seeing as how the service won’t be live until mid-2014, there’s still a lot of time before we can see if Gogo’s in-flight service is any better in Japan’s domestic routes than it is on domestic flights within the U.S.

Gogo Working To Improve Its Inflight Wi-Fi Speeds Sixfold

Gogo Working To Improve Its Inflight Wi Fi Speeds Sixfold

The world is moving at a rapid pace and the need to be constantly connected is now greater than ever. That is why many inflight Wi-Fi providers are working to make their service better and speeds faster than ever before, because now most people don’t like to be disconnected even when they’re in a cylindrical tube 30,000 feet up in the air. Gogo, one of the largest providers of inflight Wi-Fi in the U.S., has announced that its new inflight Wi-Fi service will offer speeds six times faster than what it currently offers. Its new service takes off in the second half of 2014, Virgin America has already signed up and hopes to have the service up and running on 53 of its aircraft.

Gogo says that the new service will use a combination of cellular towers and satellites to beam 60 megabits per second to each plane. Its original service offered 3 mbps to each plane, which is currently used by 1,700 aircraft. They launched an updated product last year which beams 10 mbps, this product is currently being used by nearly 300 aircraft. Gogo has different pricing structures for different tiers of usage, it offers a number of options, including a $50 monthly pass and a $14 one day pass.
