Google Play Store Gets Mobile Web Interface

Google Play Store Gets Mobile Web InterfaceWhile there are many websites out there that have been optimized for web browsing, there are some which aren’t, meaning that you’d have to pinch to zoom and scroll your way through a website designed for large monitors, not small 5-inch displays. Well the good news is that if you were to visit the Google Play Store on the web using your smartphone or tablet, you will be pleased to learn that Google has finally updated it and given it a mobile web interface.

As you can see in the image above, the website finally looks like it is more suited to be viewed on mobile devices, although to be fair, we’re not sure how many are actually going to use it, since if you’re viewing it on your Android phone or tablet, you can just as easily launch the app version of it which would be optimized even further. However suppose that this mobile interface could come in handy for those shopping on non-Android devices.

The interface itself looks clean and pretty easy to use. If you’ve ever browsed the Play Store on your computer or used the app on your Android phone, safe to say there’s nothing new that you didn’t already know. The mobile version will allow users to browse for apps, download them, purchase music, books, movies, and even purchase Google products, like the Nexus handset or tablets, and other accessories, so do check it out if you have a minute or two to spare.

Redesigned Gmail Interface For Android Leaked

Redesigned Gmail Interface For Android LeakedBack in April, screenshots of an alleged Gmail redesign were leaked. It seemed to be in line with some of the other redesigns we’ve seen, and also appears to be in line with the design language of Project Hera, a project that Google has been rumored to be working on. However it seems that newly leaked photos of the app seems to suggest otherwise.

The photos come from Yoel Kaseb, the same person who leaked the Google+ redesign which turned out to be true, so perhaps his leak could be pretty credible as well. However like we said, his photos look very different from the ones we saw earlier. We’re not sure why that is – it could be that one of the photos is showing off an older build.

The redesigned Gmail app, however, is in line with the redesigned Google+ app. This means that Google has abandoned the idea of the hamburger menu in favor of a dropdown, and there also appears to be a huge plus sign at the bottom that allows users to compose new messages, which seems to be similar to what we saw before.

In any case perhaps Google is experimenting with different looks, which could explain the discrepancies, but hopefully we will be able to find out more soon as Google I/O will be taking place towards the end of June, so check back with us then for the details.

Rumors of Tango Tablet from Google

ATAP Project Tango from GoogleSources in the know have reports that Google is planning to release a 7″ Tang-enabled table in the next couple of months. This tablet would be a larger scale version of the Tango released back in February, equipped to identify and track objects as three dimensional objects in your environment.

Project Tango is part of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group and is creating the devices to bring our real 3D world to our mobile devices instead of the device only understanding the limits of its screen. The possibilities might seem a little narrow at first but it will be interesting to see what it opens. Google provides some example uses such as immediately finding the product you are looking for when you enter a store, helping someone who is visually impaired or having a more interactive game with your real, dynamic environment.

Currently the Tango phone prototype is not publicly available and in the hands of developers, so it is likely that the table will be limited as well.
