Google Sheets Offline Editing Is Finally Possible

Google Sheets Offline Editing Is Finally Possible

If you are a devout user of the Google Drive productivity suite, you might have found yourself wondering why it is not possible to edit Google Sheets without an internet connection. For those who do not know, Google Sheets is the spreadsheet app in the company’s productivity suite. The company has finally listened to user requests for the feature, Google Sheets offline editing is finally possible thanks to the update that has been rolled out today. The update also improves speed and filter views.

Offline editing has already been supported by other apps in the suite, like Google Docs and Slide. Those who have already been using offline editing feature in those apps will be able to use it on Sheets right away, those who haven’t used the offline editing feature in the past at all will have to follow a set of instructions first. Spreadsheets can then be edited even if there’s no internet connection, all changes will be synced back to Google Drive once the user connects to the internet. The filter views feature lets users create custom views that don’t affect how other people who have access to the spreadsheet view it, this lets them filter the data in a variety of ways even when multiple contributors are working on the same spreadsheet. Last but not the least, Google Sheets also receives performance tweaks, users should notice that it is now more snappy and fast. [Image via ATD]

Google Drive On iOS Allows File Sorting Now

Google Drive On iOS Allows File Sorting Now It has been quite a day for iOS users, as we have learned that the Amazon Cloud Drive photos app on the iOS platform has received native iPad as well as video upload support, which is a good thing, really. After all, as an end user of any product, would you turn down the wonders of additional features especially when you do not need to fork out a single cent more for them? The folks over at Google, too, have a little something for iOS users, as they have added a new function on Google Drive for iOS, allowing users who use the app on a compatible iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad will be able to sort the various items within the Google Drive application.

This feature is definitely far from groundbreaking, but it is useful in its own right, making it a snap to keep track of all your recently modified folders as well as files. Apart from that, you can also expect the customary bunch of changes and improvements made to the backend to accompany this particular update. All in all, it should be a whole lot more stable as well as smoother to work with. Have you noticed any improvements on your side after installation? [iTunes Link]

Gmail Attachments Can Now Directly Be Saved To Google Drive

Gmail Attachments Can Now Directly Be Saved To Google Drive

Google has announced yet another new feature for Gmail today, its the ability to save documents directly to Google Drive from within the email itself. Just yesterday Gmail was updated to supercharge “quick action” buttons, which now support a variety of different services like OpenTable, Google Offers and more. The ability to save documents directly to Google Drive eliminates the need for downloading attachments on the device if you don’t want to, and since attachments are stored in the cloud, they’re easily accessible any time through any device, be it a computer, phone or tablet.

Emails in the Gmail inbox will now show previews of attached files at the bottom, everything from photos and videos to spreadsheets and PDFs will be previewed. Clicking on the preview will open a full screen view of the document in Gmail, here users can search for a particular phrase, browse through multiple attachments to just take a a quick peek at a file. Hover the cursor over the preview and a Drive button will appear, clicking on it will save the file to Google Drive. Those who want to download the attachments on their computer can click the arrow button. This new attachment experience will be rolling out over next week to Gmail desktop users.

Google Drive For iOS Updated With Multiple Account Support And More

Earlier this week Google released a significantly updated version of its Search app for iPhone and iPad, the update brought a number of new features and improvements for Google Now. Today, the Google Drive app for iOS has been updated and it too has received a couple of new features. First and foremost, the iOS app now comes with multiple account support. Users can easily switch between personal, work or any other Google account in the Google Drive app on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Single sign in support has been added to the app as well. So when a user signs into the Google Drive app using their Google account(s), they’ll automatically be signed into YouTube, Chrome, G+ and Google Maps as well. The app also comes with support for AirPrint and Google Cloud Print, so users can print out their documents or photos through any of the two mediums. Even though Google says that the app has been “updated for iOS 7,” no significant design changes have been made to bring the app’s design in line with that of iOS 7. The user interface remains largely the same as before. If you’re interested in getting the update on your device, you can download it now for free from the App Store.

Select HTC Devices To Receive Free 25-50GB Google Drive Storage For 2 Years

Select HTC Devices To Receive Free 25 50GB Google Drive Storage For 2 YearsWhile HTC might not exactly be in the best place financially at the moment, it seems that they are still thinking about their Android customers and have announced that select HTC Android devices will be eligible for free 25GB-50GB Google Drive storage for the next two years, after which these users will have to pay to continue the subscription or be unable to add new files. For starters owners of the HTC One Max can look forward to 50GB of Google Drive storage, while select HTC Android smartphones from 2013 will be eligible for 25GB storage once HTC Sense 5+ becomes available, although it should be noted that the HTC One Developer Edition will be excluded from this promotion due to its unlocked bootloader (although we’re not sure why this should matter).

In any case for those wondering if your HTC device is eligible for the free storage, all you’d have to do is launch the preloaded Google Drive app on your HTC device. You should see a “Redeem” button and if you do, you have to press it and follow the on-screen instructions to redeem your free storage. This offer will be valid until January the 1st 2016, so don’t worry HTC users as you will have plenty of time to redeem it. The 2-year period will begin the moment you redeem the offer, so if you were to redeem it on the 1st of January 2016, it will be valid until 2018, and etc. More information on this offer can be found at Google’s website.
