Zite Launches for Google Glass and version 2.0 on Android

Zite Launches for Google Glass and version 2.0 on Android

Mark Johnson, CEO, Zite using his app on Google Glass

Zite is the news application that was bought by CNN in August 2011, its 2.0 version was launched for iOS in December 2012, and today, Android devices owners will get access to Zite 2.0. The company is going full force to Google, so the lucky people who could afford the $1500 Google Glass will be able to enjoy the wearable Zite experience.

I had the opportunity to try Zite for Google Glass during my meeting with Mark Johnson, CEO, Zite, and it was surprisingly an interesting experience. Zite gives the ability to scroll through the last ten top stories, the headlines are easy to read  and you can ask Glasseitther to read you an article aloud or go to the website.

Siri Takes A Humorous Swing At Google Glass

Siri Takes A Humorous Swing At Google Glass

Apple’s virtual personal assistant, Siri, now takes a rather humorous swing at Google Glass. Saying “Okay Glass” to Siri will make the virtual assistant return four humorous responses at the expense of Google Glass. “Okay Glass” is actually the phrase that is used to invoke Google Glass, the origins of this phrase are explained in detail here.

The four responses are as follows: “Stop trying to strap me to your forehead. It won’t work,” “I think that Glass is half empty,” “I’m not Glass. And I’m just fine with that” and “Glass? I think you’ve got the wrong assistant.” Its unclear if Apple plans on adding more phrases to the list, these four seem to suffice though. Apple naturally won’t be too excited about Glass. Apple CEO Tim Cook said earlier this year that he doesn’t believe Google Glass will turn out to be a mass-market item. According to him, the wrist is a more natural place for wearable gadgets. There have already been a lot of rumors about Apple working on its own wearable gadget, the iWatch as it is commonly known. Nevertheless, Google has stirred up a lot of hype for Glass but we’ll only know how it performs in the market once the retail version goes on sale next year. [Image via AppleInsider]

Siri Gets Sassy If You Ask Her About Google Glass

Siri Gets Sassy If You Ask Her About Google Glass

Everybody knows that Siri gets silly from time to time and starts cracking jokes. Most of them are not funny (e.g. "Two iPhones walk into a bar… I forget the rest.") But when Siri starts trash-talking Apple’s competitors, things start to get interesting.

Google Glass won’t be showcased in Best Buy next year

Earlier this week, Robert Scoble posted a status on Google+ claiming that Google will be leasing 6000 square feet of space in Best Buy stores next year to sell Google Glass. It seems such won’t be the case, however, with Google’s Chris Dale sending off a tweet stating that the information is wrong, as are […]

Google Foxconn patent buy amps up augmented reality for Glass

Though they’ve not said so in so many words, the folks at Hon Hai Precision (aka Foxconn) have just sold patents to Google that’ll allow the US-based company to expand their hold on the world of augmented reality through head-mounted displays. This buy can quite readily be traced to the wearable device known as Google […]

Google Reportedly Purchased Patents From Foxconn

Google Reportedly Purchased Patents From FoxconnIt seems that Internet search giant Google who has also made inroads into many other markets which are different from their original “calling” intends to boost up their Glass eyewear device by purchasing patents from, of all people, Foxconn. I wonder what Apple executives will think about this particular situation, considering how Foxconn is one of the primary manufacturers for Cupertino. Bloomberg also mentioned that Foxconn had already confirmed the sale of patents for wearable technology that will see action in gaming and training simulations.

We have absolutely no idea as to the terms of the deal, and neither did Google nor Foxconn have something to say about it. This bit of news also comes approximately a month after Google threw in some dough to invest in chipmaker Himax in order to to help boost production of the company’s liquid crystal on silicon chips and modules, where both parts are readily found in Google Glass. What do you think that Google will do with the patents that they picked up from Foxconn, and just how important will those patents be in shaping up the next generation of devices? Apart from what, will it affect Apple’s relationship with Foxconn in the long run?

Google Glass Stores Might Pop Up Inside Best Buy Locations Next Year

Google Glass Stores Might Pop Up Inside Best Buy Locations Next Year

Google Glass is one of major product at the forefront of the wearable technology wave. The company has only shipped out units to some 8,000 select users called Explorers. For the public, it is expected that Google Glass will be released in 2014. The internet search giant’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt said earlier this year that we should expect Glass to go on sale in 2014. It was rumored that Google might set up its own retail stores to sell Glass. The latest rumor suggests that Google will instead open pop up stores inside Best Buy locations across the country, like Samsung and Microsoft already have.

It would make sense for the company to go down this road. Opening pop up stores inside Best Buy locations would end up costing it less than setting up its own retail stores, if not in the entire country, then in some of the major cities. Pop up stores are likely to bring in more foot traffic as well. Rumor has it that prospective customers will be able to try Google Glass in these stores before purchasing the unit. Employees will then walk them through the tutorial as well as the fitting procedure that Glass users have to go through. The source of this rumor is unverified, so it can’t be said for sure if Glass stores will pop up inside your nearest Best Buy next year.

Google reportedly reserving Best Buy space in 2014 for Google Glass

An interesting, if somewhat brief, rumor has surfaced by way of Robert Scoble, who took to Google+ earlier. Reportedly, Google is renting quite a bit of space in Best Buy stores in 2014 for the purpose of selling Google Glass. There isn’t much information to go right now, but the source alluded to something big […]

Telepathy One wearable Google Glass rival scores millions in initial funding round

Recall the Google Glass rival Telepathy One from earlier this year? The company behind the rather stylish device – Telepathy Inc. – has scored $5 million in its initial round of funding, something that will help the company get its product into consumer hands sometime next year, if all goes as planned. The funds will […]

Google Glass augmented reality gets real-time demo

We already saw augmented reality on Google Glass last month as developer Brandyn White created an augmented reality UI that uses Mirror API to display information over still images. Now White and fellow OpenGlass developer Andrew Miller have now been able to demonstrate AR in real-time. This opens the door for displaying useful info over […]
