Google I/O 2013 Schedule Finally Revealed

Google I/O 2013 Schedule Finally Revealed

The Google I/O 2013 schedule has finally be revealed. The company is shaking things up a little bit this year. Unlike in the past, when it made separate product announcements in separate keynotes, the company will be conducting a 3 hour keynote session in which it will announce all of the products it has planned for us. The keynote session will kick off at 9am PST on the 15th of May. Google live streams various sessions from the conference, so it can be expected that this three hour keynote will be live streamed to those who couldn’t make it to Moscone Center in person.

As far as new products are concerned, the previously rumored release of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie has reportedly been delayed and it won’t be announced at Google I/O 2013. Recent rumors suggest that the company will be announcing Android 4.3 instead. New hardware is also expected, this includes the Motorola X smartphone, a 32GB LTE Nexus 4 and possibly a revamped Nexus 7 tablet. Google will also be conducting various sessions on six main tracks, Android, Chrome & Apps, Google+, Google Cloud Platform, Google Maps and YouTube at the conference which runs from 15th to the 17th of May.

Google’s 2013 I/O schedule shows single keynote event

Google has published its 2013 I/O conference schedule, and it seems it is shaking things up a bit. Shirking the usual two-day keynote speeches, which are more or less split halfsies down the middle between Android and Chrome, this time around the conference will be featuring a single keynote event on May 15.

PSA-Google-IO-2013-registration-begins-at-7AM1

What’s more, the event is slated to be a long one, scheduled to last three hours. The conference kicks off on May 15 with the keynote speeches, followed by a break and then heading into six hours worth of sessions and Developers Sandbox. The next two days look more or less the same, according to the I/O agenda Google just published, save for the longer sessions and lack of keynote speeches.

Tickets for the developer event went on sale back on March 13, and they were gobbled up in a single hour, with tickets being priced at $900 for the average attendee and a steeply-discounted $300 for students and faculty. Previous I/O conferences have likewise sold out quickly, with the 2012 event selling out in less than 15 minutes, and again selling out in under an hour in 2011.

Of course, we’ll be attending, and will update you on the latest and greatest news. We’re geared up for discussion topics including Google TV, Google+, Android, and, of course, Project Glass, which has been in the news quite a bit as of late. With a little over two weeks to go, you’ve enough time to check out our last I/O pieces, then get caught up on Google Glass, Chrome, and Android.

Google Now hits iOS as Android assistant exclusivity ends

Today it’s been announced by Google that their premiere Android-only system* has begun its trip to iOS: Google Now for iPad and iPhone. This system will bring on a combination of Google Search and personalized everyday “cards” showing what a user – you, if you’re using Google Now – wants to know about every day elements like weather, sports, and calendar items.

Android users have had Google Now for several months, this system having been launched originally approximately a year ago at Google’s developer conference. At Google I/O 2012 we had our first hands-on look at Google Now with the Samsung-made Galaxy Nexus handset which you’ll be able to have a retro look at below this paragraph. The update for iPad and iPhone will be available in the iTunes app store immediately if not soon.

Google Now 1.0 at launch with Android – see our iOS hands-on soon!

Google Now for iPhone and iPad will not be offered as a separate app, but integrated into the original Google Search app experience. Because of this, many users will find the Google Now environment appearing in an update they’d be running automatically. This system will be working on a voluntary opt-in basis, this allowing users to decide if they want to use the personalized system or not.

Note: this version of Google Now is NOT able to access your iOS calendar, it seems – stay tuned for more hands-on revelations.

Google Now uses search results and terms typed in by the user as tuned by their Google account. If the user has a Gmail address, they have a Google account – and if the user wants to use Google Now, they’ll need to have an account to make it all work. Have a peek at the launch video here and get ready for SlashGear’s full hands-on experience as well, coming up soon!

Check out SlashGear’s Google Now tag portal for more information on this system and have a chat with us in today’s Google Now post up on Google+, the search giant’s social network.

New Nexus 7 Tablet Google I/O Release Rumored

New Nexus 7 Tablet Google I/O Release Rumored

Google will be making quite a few announcements at the I/O conference. The company will unveil Android’s next major platform update, version 5.0 or Key Lime Pie. It is also expected make hardware announcements, though recent rumors suggest that it won’t be unveiling Nexus 5 or Motorola X. Rather it will be announcing a Nexus 4 with 32GB storage and 4G LTE. Now it is being speculated that the company will unveil a revamped Nexus 7 tablet at its event.

The new Nexus 7 tablet will reportedly be released in July. It is rumored to have a full HD display, a slimmer bezel design, Wi-Fi and cellular capabilities. Some rumors also suggest that Google will swap the Nexus 7′s existing NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. Revamped Nexus 7 is expected to retain its current price point of $199. Like before, the device will be manufactured by Asus. The slight changes in design will make this tablet thinner and lighter than before. This would give it an extra edge in the market which is literally overflowing with 7-inch tablets from a wide variety of manufacturers, a thin and light footprint coupled with Android OS will set the Nexus 7 apart beautifully.

Nexus 5 And Motorola X Reportedly Won’t Be Unveiled At Google I/O

Nexus 5 And Motorola X Reportedly Wont Be Unveiled At Google I/O

Yesterday I reported on a rumor that Google will be announcing a 32GB 4G LTE capable Nexus 4 at the I/O conference. When the Nexus 4 was originally launched late last year, it did not offer the higher storage space and LTE compatibility. If Google isn’t planning on releasing a successor just yet then it makes sense to release a tweaked Nexus 4, because almost all premium smartphones offer these features. Today our attention is brought towards a new rumor which claims that both Nexus 5 and Motorola X smartphone won’t be unveiled at Google I/O.

We’ve heard a lot recently about Motorola X smartphone, Eric Schmidt says that its phenomenal and CEO Larry Page hinted that Motorola’s upcoming smartphones might be unbreakable. It is possible that the X smartphone won’t be unveiled at I/O, only last week it was rumored that Motorola X release has been pushed back till August. As far as the Nexus 5 is concerned, there hasn’t been much chatter about it recently. Perhaps Google is aiming for a fall launch of its next generation Nexus smartphone. Let me remind you that all of this is based on rumors, take this with a grain of salt.

Google Expected To Launch 32GB LTE Nexus 4 In May

Google Expected To Launch 32GB LTE Nexus 4 In May

When the Nexus 4 smartphone was announced last year, many were wondering how the smartphone was going to perform without 32GB storage or LTE compatibility. It is now being reported that come May, Google will be launching a revised version of the Nexus 4. It won’t have any design or internal hardware changes, save for the fact that it will come with 32GB internal storage and 4G LTE network compatibility. The announcement is expected to be made at Google’s annual I/O conference.

That’s not all, Google is also expected to unveil the next major Android platform update. Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will reportedly bring a host of new features as well as improvements to the platform that powers 70% of the global smartphone market. It is being said that the 32GB Nexus 4 will have LTE and CDMA support, this will make it compatible with both Sprint and Verizon in the country. At the moment only a GSM model is available for purchase through Google Play, it works on AT&T and T-Mobile. With all premium Android smartphones offering LTE compatibility it makes sense for Google to add it to the Nexus 4 if they’re not immediately planning on releasing a successor.

Google I/O 2013 tipped to bring Nexus 4 LTE with Key Lime Pie

This week the rumors are running like mad with Google’s next-edition Nexus device being revealed not as the Nexus 5 (not yet, at least), but the LG-made Nexus 4 with a newly enlarged standard 32GB internal storage size and 4G LTE connectivity. This device will quite likely be revealed as the first hero smartphone to be running Google’s own Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the newest edition of their mobile operating system – also not yet confirmed by the company.

PB019010-SlashGear-nexus-10-4-580x379

These rumors are stacking up around what everyone would like ideally: a new smartphone. The device would, of course, be called the Nexus 5 and a brand new manufacturer would be behind the wheel. Past Google I/O events dictate a different situation, on the other hand.

Instead of releasing a brand new smartphone at the developer event next month, Google will much more likely be presenting the attendees with a newly enhanced version of the still hotly-selling Nexus 4. This new version will quite likely be able to work with new radio bands for networks that previous to the event weren’t compatible with the handset.

lg-nexus-top-540x279

The current Google Nexus 4 works with AT&T and T-Mobile here in the United States but only supports speeds up to HSPA+. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor under the hood of the Nexus 4, the device already has the compatibility it needs on the SoC side of things – it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see LG and Google update the innards of this device to support 4G LTE for T-Mobile as it begins to launch across the USA, and both AT&T and Verizon could be onboard as well.

We’ll be at Google I/O 2013 next month and will be reporting straight through SlashGear’s Google I/O tag portal to you the whole event long! Join us from May 15th through the 17th as we head to the Moscone Center in San Francisco! You can also tap our Google I/O 2013 event in Facebook to remind yourself of the fun coming up!

Google Glass Explorer Edition to ship to developers next month

Developers will be getting their hands on their Google Glass Explorer Edition really soon. At the Google Ventures event today, Google stated that its going to be shipping Google Glasses to developers within the next month. It’s hoping to get the gadgets into the hands of developers before its major event of the year, Google Glass I/O, takes place. Google’s a bit off from its previous speculated ship date, but its better late than never.

Google Glass Explorer Edition to ship next month

According to our good friends at Android Community, Google is shipping Google Glass out to several developers who pre-ordered the gadget last year. These developers will hopefully be able to take part in the Glass Mirror API which will more than likely be released at Google I/O. Google I/O in general is speculated to mainly focus on Google Glass and getting developers excited for its release.

Also at the Google Ventures event today, Google Ventures partnered up with Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers to form the “Glass Collective”. The Glass Collective is an investment syndicate that will provide the funding that will help many hopeful entrepreneurs get started with their ideas surrounding Google Glass. If you’re one of those hopeful entrepreneurs, be sure to submit your ideas to the Glass Syndicate for a chance to make your ideas become a reality.

Google hopes to launch Google Glass by the end of this year. There have already been some great opposition against the gadget, and the price-tag may be a deterrent for many interested buyers. Nonetheless, Google Glass is a huge step forward in the world of technology, and it will revolutionize the way we search. Sergey Brin stated at a TED conference that Google Glass will help him realize the dream he had when he started Google. Be sure to check out our in-depth overview of Google Glass here.

Motorola X Phone render “leaked”: 5 specifications to make you freak

As we draw ever nearer the developer conference known as Google I/O 2013, tips and rumors (and today a 3D rendering) of a Motorola-made “X Phone” have made their way to the public. What we’re seeing here is an illustrated version of what a tipster has suggested will be what the upcoming Google Nexus device will bring to the market this spring, with a possible reveal hitting in early May as Google’s convention takes place. Along with the rendering from GSMArena has come a set of specifications that are sometimes fabulous, sometimes bafflingly low-grade.

window

Qualcomm Processor

Along with the one ZTE device we’ve seen in Barcelona this past month, this device will – if these tipped specifications hold true – be amongst the first to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. This is a step above the Snapdragon 600 processor you’ll be seeing in the HTC One and the Samsung GALAXY S 4, mind you.

snapdragon-1

What’s odd here is that this device’s tipped specifications also include a display that’s not quite as impressive as those attached to the HTC One and GALAXY S 4. This would only make sense if Google wanted to show the power of the newest version of Android (whatever that may be) or the power of the Snapdragon chipset – but developing for higher definition displays should, by all means, be more important than those bits.

Massive 4000mAh battery

Inside it’s said that you’ll be seeing a battery that’ll bust up the rest of the market, 4000mAh large so you’ll be working all day and night long without need for a charge. That’s rather similar to what we’ve seen in several of the most recent Motorola smartphone releases, and right on top of the device we brought to Mobile World Congress 2013 for its excellent battery capacity and long-lasting life: the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD.

Android 4.2

Wait a second – wasn’t this device supposed to be a Nexus phone? Wasn’t the rumor that this Motorola release was supposed to be the first vanilla Google phone, complete with the next-generation operating system build? Perhaps here we see how the Motorola smartphone at hand is not going to be all it’s cracked up to be tipped.

jellybeanplus

Or we see another massive flaw in the tipster. Between this device running with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, nothing newer, and the fact that they’ve reported just 768 x 1280 as the resolution of the display, it’s going to be really difficult to convince anyone that this tipster is one to be trusted.

IP57 certified with Gorilla Glass III

Back in the much more realistic realm of specifications comes a tip that this device will be water resistant up to a meter and will be somewhat damage resistant in a variety of other ways. Up front it’s said that the third generation of Gorilla Glass, made great enough to resist even the toughest of scratches.

Unique New Industrial Design

With the rendering you’re seeing above, you’ll notice that this device looks quite different from the rest of the Motorola smartphones we’ve seen released over the past several years. It looks a lot more like an Xperia phone, when it comes down to it. Whether you’re all about this new design or you’d rather stick with the RAZR family, it’s nice to see Motorola change things up a bit – if, in fact, they really are making this device.

Latest Leak Previews What May Be Google Play Version 4.0

Latest Leak Previews What May Be Google Play Version 4.0

We’re still quite some time away from Google I/O, a conference where the company announces its major software updates. Among the announcements expected this year, Android 5.0 is definitely at the top. We just might see the company announce Google Play version 4.0 as well, given how no substantial updates have been rolled for it out since July 2011. A new leak previews what the next Google Play might be, there definitely are some interesting images to look at.
