Google Maps Navigation (Beta) For Android Arrives At Another 25 Countries

Google Maps Navigation (Beta) For Android Arrives At Another 25 CountriesHas the traveling and adventure bug bitten you yet this holiday season? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you might also want to make sure that you do not get lost – not to mention the rest of the folks who are depending on your leadership as much as your sense of direction. Fret not, you might be unable to fold a map to save your life, which is why Google Maps Navigation comes in handy. Google Maps Navigation has now made its way in another 25 more countries, where majority of these new additions lie in the continent of Africa, and would include Libya, Somalia and Tunisia.

As for the remaining coverage area that has also received the benefit of Google Maps Navigation, they would include Guadeloupe and Haiti from the Caribbean, with those who have a soft spot for Europe giving Andorra, Croatia and Serbia a go. Other rather more remote places than normal would include Bhutan and Vanuatu, and those are not excluded from the (soon to be) all-knowing Google Maps Navigation. Just bear in mind that if you want to get Google Maps Navigation (Beta) for Android up and running, you would need at least Android 1.5 and Google Maps for Android version 3.2 and higher.

Google Maps iOS And Android Apps Updated With Gmail Integration

Google Maps iOS And Android Apps Updated With Gmail Integration

Google has started rolling out the updated Google Maps app for iOS and Android, apart from the usual tweaks, bug fixes and performance improvements, the update also brings a number of new features. The biggest feature is Gmail integration, which means that users will be able to access their hotel, flight and restaurant reservations from within the Maps app. Even flight reservations will be displayed when users open up a relevant location in the app. The information is only displayed to the user, they’ll first need to sign into the Gmail account to gain access. Without account authentication, the app won’t show any personal information such as reservations.

This particular feature is reminiscent of the “private” search results that the company displays for Google Search users who are signed into their Google accounts. However through Search, users are also able to track packages, look up information about contacts, see Calendar entries and much more. The updated Google Maps application is being rolled out in stages, so it might take some time before the app becomes available in your region. Google Maps app for iOS and Android are both available as free downloads from the App Store and the Google Play Store, respectively.

Google Street View adds panoramic peeks at airports, train stations and subway stops

Mountain View’s panoramic Street View may let you virtually explore Venice, dozens of North American parks and even the inside of an Oberon-class submarine, but until now, you had to figure out the train station on your own. Not anymore; Google’s latest Maps update focuses on the journey, adding Street Views of over 50 train and subway stations, 16 international airports and even a cable car station in Hong Kong. Google pitches the new views as an easy way to hammer out the physical logistics of travel, though it seems to cater to international travelers: so far, almost all of the updated panoramics are located outside of US borders. Still, we can’t complain — Street View is now the fastest way to get through airport security.
