Google Maps Allegedly Helps Indian Boy Find His Way Home 25 Years Later

Here we are with word that India, the second most populous country in the world, has a somewhat peculiar if not “impossible” case of a lost kid who had the help of Google Maps in getting home after being lost for a quarter of a century later.

It is said that when he was just 5 years old, Saroo Munshi Khan fell asleep on a train in India with his brother, and when he woke up, he was all alone with nobody else around. This would mean he was lost in a country that had more than a billion people living in it, but thankfully, he was adopted by a caring Australian family who also placed a map of India in his room to make sure that he always remembered his roots. It was no surprise then, that Saroo had the internal urge to find his family, but with nothing else other than faint memories to assist him, the experience was somewhat similar to finding a needle in a haystack. Good thing there is Google Maps and Google Earth which allowed him to check out his home country on his computer, resulting in him piecing together his past memories into a journey home.

In May this year, we did talk about how a kidnap victim managed to find his way back home after 23 years because he obtained some help from Google Maps, based on his memory of his hometown that depicted a pair of distinct looking bridges.

Explore the Lamborghini Museum Using Google Maps

Google Maps has been adding an ever-increasing amount of Street View imagery to its service allowing you to actually see the streets you’ll be driving, biking and walking on when you’re going somewhere. I think most of us probably use Street View imagery more to see our own houses or to see if we were caught on the Street View cameras more than anything else. One of the cool things that Google has been doing is allowing some businesses to offer interior views to prospective customers.

Lamborghini has announced that it has teamed up with Google Maps to offer an exclusive interior view of its museum located in Sant’Agata Bolognese. You may not ever get to travel to Italy and see the museum firsthand, but you can explore both floors and all 1500 square meters virtually from your smartphone, tablet, or web browser.

Inside the museum, Lamborghini has all sorts of famous cars from its street-legal car line, as well as prototypes, limited editions, and racing cars. One of the coolest features is that you can actually check out the interior of some extremely limited edition Lambo models including the Reventon, Estoque, and Sesto Elemento.

    Google Maps For iOS Updated

Google Maps For iOS UpdatedWhile Google Maps has the ability to map a route out for you, whether you plan on walking or driving, it might not always be the best possible route one can take, but thanks to a recent update to its iOS app, users will be able to tell if said route will be a better one or not and decide for themselves if that’s the route they plan on taking. According to the update which was rolled out for iOS users recently, it will show users a miniature route preview with traffic overlays, giving users an easier choice of routes at a glance. Granted users were always able to choose the best route themselves, but now more information has been presented at a glance and it’s these small conveniences that usually makes a difference.

Other updated features include a Tips and Tricks section for newbies to the app, along with additional language support for both Arabic and Hebrew, and as expected there are a bug fixes that came along with the update as well. The app is free for download for those who have yet to check it out for their iOS device, and the update can be pulled directly from the iTunes App Store if you haven’t updated your app already.

Google Street View Lets You Visit CERN without Colliding with Anyone

The European Organization for Nuclear Research aka CERN reached the attention of the masses when they finished the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. Physicists and other scientists all over the world have high hopes for the LHC, while the rest of us are thoroughly impressed with its name. Now you can be even more vaguely impressed with cutting edge technology, thanks to Google’s Street View tour of the CERN site.

The tour is the final product of a two-week shoot by Google’s crew back in 2011. They took images of 5 different areas of CERN’s facilities, including nearly 4,000ft of the LHC tunnel. Check all of them out on Google Maps. Be sure to nod approvingly as you gaze at the images. Doing that helped me resist passing out from sheer confusion.
