The Android underground was aflutter yesterday as keen-eyed obsessives spotted a device in press photo for Android they didn’t recognize – so they called it the Nexus 8. This device looked to be sporting a display significantly larger than that of the Nexus 7 while it kept similar-sized chassis. So similar, it would appear today, […]
The newly launched Nexus 5 was only up on the Google Play Store for a short time before the 16GB version was flagged as out of inventory, with first the black version being depleted followed shortly by the white version. Fortunately, those who wanted to get the cheaper of the two models have only had […]
It’s a Happy Halloween today as Google releases information on the Nexus 5, their newest in a line of devices running with their own brand of pure Android. Today the Google Nexus 5 has been made official, readied for the Google Play store with LG as a manufacturer and a two-tier system in place. This morning the 2013 edition of the Nexus 10 seemed (at first) to appear on Google Play with specifications galore – it was quickly realized by those with keen eyes for terrible fakes that the screenshots of this occurrence were fake. In other words – Google did not mess up and list anything on Google […]
So BBM for Android and iOS
BlackBerry BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) service was downloaded more than 10 million times within the first 24 hours after its release to iPhone and Android users. While Google Play might have started out just offering apps for Android users, Google has over time expanded the offerings in its Play store and covered areas such as music, movies, magazines, books, and etc. However it seems that Google might be either looking to introduce a new feature, or perhaps consolidate its magazines, thanks to hints spotted in Google Play version 4.4 where the folks at Android Police discovered a portal called “Newssstand”. The idea of Google creating a news stand of sorts is definitely not new as in the past it has been referred to as Google Play News, but with the APK teardown of the latest version of Google Play, it appears that Google has decided to go with a different name for it.
While it is unclear as to what it might do, Android Police believes that it will take the place of Play Magazines and will be known as Play Newsstand instead, suggesting that the consolidation would mean that both digital magazines and newspaper subscriptions will fall under the same area, as opposed to having two separate sections which could make things a bit messy. The APK teardown also reveals that there will be a free trial offered, allowing users to try out the magazine/newspaper format on their phones before deciding if they want to subscribe to it, with the description reading, “Your favorite magazines and news are right here on Google Play. Pick up the latest issues or try out a free trial subscription. Read instantly with the Play Newsstand app, even offline.”
It is unclear as to when Google Play Newsstand will be announced, but chances are it could be announced alongside the release of Android 4.4 KitKat and the new Google Neus 5 handset.
Google Play Newsstand Discovered In APK Teardown original content from Ubergizmo.
In their ongoing teardown of Play Store 4.4, Android Police have found multiple mentions of a “Play Newsstand” that could turn out to be a one-price news subscription service similar in structure to Play Music All Access. This could give users unlimited access to premium news content for a monthly subscription fee. The code also […]
Earlier today, press renders of the Nexus 5 surfaced via Canadian carrier Telus, something that has paled in comparison to the latest image available. Today on the Google Play Store, the Nexus 5 has appeared in part, with an image being visible but nothing more than an error happening when the link is clicked. We’ve […]
