Want to make apps for Glass? Google opens Mirror API to all developers

Finished poring over that API documentation for, like, the millionth time? Good. Managed to hustle your way to a hackathon? Great! Finally, then, it’s time to put all that knowhow to practical use — the Mirror API is now open to all developers. Before now, you’d have needed to find your way onto a whitelist to get in on the action, but as from a few hours ago, access to the cloud-and-cards based app API is a free for all. Glassware is finally a go go go..?

FeedBurner Says: Go Pro for Free!

This article was written on July 03, 2007 by CyberNet.

FeedBurner Google

FeedBurner just announced that because they were acquired by Google they are now able to offer their PRO package at no cost to all users. What kind of goodness does such a package get you? For starters you can get advanced stat tracking that lets you see who has viewed or clicked items in your feed. It also lets you see the "Reach" which is an estimate of how many subscribers interact with your feed on a daily basis.

That’s not all though, you can also get "MyBrand" without paying a dime! As long as you don’t mind playing around with the DNS entries for your site you’ll be able to create your own feed URL. Instead of having an URL that looks like http://feeds.feedburner.com/CyberNet you could have one that looks like http://feeds.cybernetnews.com/CyberNet. This has several benefits to it, with the most significant being a professional-looking feed URL.

So how do you setup the two services? Here’s what you have to do:

  • You can turn on advanced stats by signing in to your account, navigating to the Analyze tab and heading to the FeedBurner Stats PRO section. Click the "Item Views" checkbox to activate these PRO features. When you’re viewing a listing of your feeds you should then see a "PRO" label next to the feeds you have upgraded.

  • To get started with MyBrand, sign into FeedBurner, click the "My Account" link in the upper left-hand corner, and then click "MyBrand". I had to email them to setup the MyBrand, and haven’t heard back from them yet. I’m not sure why an email is required, but I’ll play along.

I have a feeling that this will just be the beginning. It is only natural that Google will begin working to combine the FeedBurner statistics with Google Analytics. This would give a central location to monitor both your site and feed stats, and I don’t think there is any denying that this will happen.

Google Plus iOS app updates design, adds hi-res media backups and mapping

Google has issued three key updates to its Google+ app for iOS. Two of the updates apply to all iOS versions for which the app is supported (6.0 and later.) The third update applies only to iOS 7. All of the updates went live this morning. Version 4.6.0 of the app includes a fresh design […]

Google+ for iOS gets full-res photo backups, lets you share your location

Google+ for iOS with photos and location

After nearly a month, Google is delivering on its promise of bringing full-size photo and video backups to Google+ on iOS. The app’s version 4.6 update now lets iOS 7 users upload imagery at its original resolution as long as there’s enough available cloud storage. Photographers aren’t the only ones who benefit from the new software, though. It also introduces the location-sharing option from the Android release, translates posts in-line and unifies search. Socialites eager for more detail in their pictures (or their whereabouts) just need to visit the App Store for an upgrade.

Google Wallet lets you capture credit card info with your smartphone camera

The contents of your wallet are under attack. Earlier this month Coin swept in threatening to eliminate the need for all of your beloved non-cash payment methods and now Google Wallet is making it even easier to capture your plastic with its latest Android update. Along with the introduction of its very own physical debit cards, Google added the ability to upload your debit and credit cards to Wallet by simply snapping a picture with your smartphone — similar to the recent addition to the Dropbox Android app. Instead of entering your card numbers manually (such a drag, we know), those users who see a camera icon in the “card number” field of the Wallet mobile app, can capture both the card number and expiration date with a photograph.

Google’s Getting Serious About Prescription Glass

Google's Getting Serious About Prescription Glass

Google really knocked everybody’s socks off when it revealed Glass last year—everybody except glasses-wearers, that is. As the company prepares to bring the device to market, though, Google doesn’t want to leave anybody out, and that means creating Google Glass with prescription lenses.

Moto G makes its North American debut at Telus and Koodo

Moto G hands-on

The Moto G may not reach the US until January, but that doesn’t mean it will be unavailable on North American shores until then. Motorola’s budget wunderkind has just reached the continent through Canada’s Telus and its low-cost Koodo brand. Both carriers are selling the 8GB smartphone for $200 CAD ($189 US) off-contract; thriftier shoppers can get the Moto G for free on a two-year Telus agreement, or $50 at Koodo with a $150 use tab. Other local carriers aren’t expected to offer the Moto G in the near future, so this may represent the best chance of getting the handset for both Canucks and eager American importers.

Motorola inks deal with 3D Systems to build its modular ‘Ara’ smartphones

When Motorola threw its weight behind Phonebloks’ modular smartphone concept, it pretty much signaled to the rest of the industry that the Google company was dead serious about customization. But that radical vision of a completely upgradeable handset needs an equally radical manufacturing partner and Motorola’s found that in 3D Systems. Today, the two companies have announced a multi-year deal that’ll see 3D Systems building what Motorola calls “the factory of the future,” and providing a complete end-to-end fabrication process for ‘Project Ara.’ As part of the deal, Motorola’s exclusively tasking 3D Systems with creating new “multi-material printing capabilities including conductive and functional materials” to build these modules (e.g., chassis, battery, etc.) and help it keep pace with eventual consumer demand for ‘Ara’ phones. That’s all if 3D Systems can prove its undeveloped printing process actually, you know, works. If not, well, 3D Systems can kiss that exclusivity agreement goodbye.
