Google in Talks for Buying Twitch

Twitch LogoAccording to Variety, YouTube has already acquired the video game streaming service Twitch in a $1 billion dollar deal. Twitch has been called the ESPN of video games, bringing live streaming video content of video games while they are being played.

YouTube has been the foremost giant in providing streaming video of saved content but has not had as much success in the live streaming market, especially with gamers. Twitch on the other hand has done very well with live streaming content and is well-known among the gaming population. Both have been making moves into the others territory in the recent past and some good competition was expected between two in the way of content and service offerings. The talk of this deal has brought concern to many who had hoped for better offerings as a result of competition that will no longer exist after this deal.

If you have not heard of Twitch before, 1) maybe you should check it out and 2) to put the use in perspective Twitch has 45 million users and was responsible for 1.35% of all downloaded bandwidth on broadband networks in North America in March of 2014.

Motorola And Lenovo’s First Smartphone Reportedly Coming This Fall

Motorola And Lenovos First Smartphone Reportedly Coming This Fall

We already know that Google has agreed to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for $3 billion. The deal hasn’t jumped through all of the regulatory hurdles just yet but already rumors are circulating about the very first smartphone that will be developed by both companies together. The official China Mobile Alliance Weibo account published claims that the first smartphone from Motorola and Lenovo is destined for fall 2014.

Now this is certainly a tough rumor to swallow considering the fact that Motorola’s acquisition deal hasn’t been closed. Significant time is required to design, develop and produce a smartphone. It may take the deal a few months to complete so that may only leave a month or two at most for both companies to come up with a new handset.

The way this would make sense is if Google is already allowing Lenovo to work with Motorola on new products. While this is possible, there hasn’t been any confirmation from the companies involved that an arrangement of this sort has been reached.

No word as yet what Motorola and Lenovo’s first collaboration will be called. Lenovo is also expected to shake up Motorola branding. Apparently the “Motorola by Lenovo” brand might be under consideration, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage. The acquisition deal is expected to be closed in the coming months.

Nest Thermostat Is Now Available From The Play Store

Nest Thermostat Is Now Available From The Play Store

Nest launched its very first thermostat back in 2011. The product quickly became popular due to its ability to adjust itself after “learning” the user’s habits. Earlier this year in January Google announced that it has acquired Nest for $3.2 billion. Nest was founded by Tony Fadell, who previously worked at Apple. We expected that Google will gradually integrated the product into its ecosystem and it certainly has. Today the Nest thermostat has officially gone on sale through the Google Play Store.

The formal announcement comes a day after we first spotted Nest on Play Store. Listing for this product was pulled shortly after, leading us to believe that Nest wasn’t exactly supposed to go on sale at that moment. Through Play Store the Nest Learning Thermostat costs $249.

To commemorate Earth Day, Google will plant a tree for every Nest unit sold today through its store. So if you’ve been meaning to pick one up today would be the best day, get your Nest fix and make Mother Nature happy in the process.

Google is currently selling the thermostat through its store in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Currently it lists shipping estimates between 1-2 days, however if sales are really good, one can expect shipping times to slip.
