Google Translate On iOS Refreshed

Google Translate On iOS RefreshedThere is nothing quite like a changed look to kickstart things on a different footing. After all, we do see design changes happen from time to time. Take Apple’s iOS operating system for instance – the iOS 7 redesign has certainly riled some quarters, while earning rave reviews from others. As for Google, they themselves have changed their Google logo on the search page for a flatter look, and here we are with word that the Internet search giant has also introduced a fresh look for Google Translate on iOS, and there is more than meets the eye than just a cosmetic change, as Google has also decided to throw in additional languages and new features.

Google Translate intends to help break down the language barrier whenever you travel to a place where the local lingo is something that you cannot understand. Having said that, Google Translate app for iOS 7 has been updated and optimized, where you will be able to enjoy a fresh new look in addition to handwriting support as well as more than 70 languages to make it happen. Imagine when you are in Japan, and need to ask a question. Just use text-input to type in your question, where it will then translate from English to Japanese in a jiffy, with your translation being spoken back in Japanese. [Press Release]

Google Translate iOS app updated with new UI, handwriting support

Google Translate updated for iOS 7 with new UI, new languages and handwriting support

International travelers just got one more reason to update to iOS 7: Google’s Translate app. Mountain View’s machine translation service is already the go-to language conversion tool for many users, but the app’s latest iOS update packs in a few killer features. In addition to a modern UI overhaul, the iPhone app no supports seven additional languages (bringing its total up to 70) and touch-based handwriting input. The latter feature hit the service’s homepage earlier this summer, and converts the user’s woeful imitations of foreign script into translatable characters. It’s clean looking, useful and brand new. What more can you ask for?

    Google UK Sports Flatter Design

Google UK Sports Flatter Design Earlier today, we did bring you word that Google has unveiled a new logo, revealing a cleaner as well as flatter design so that it will be able to look more uniform across the rest of the offerings. Scouring around various Google sites, the Google UK search page has already been updated with the new logo as well as sporting a brand new apps toolbox. The update does seem to be available only to a very limited number of users, and apparently, it also seems to be accessible on Apple’s OS X operating systems, but not so on Windows or Linux platforms. However, I am running on Windows Vista (yes, you can stifle your laughter) and managed to capture the screenshot that you see above from Google UK’s search page.

What do you think of the flatter design for the new Google logo? It does somewhat resemble Microsoft’s logo which was revealed last year, and the colors do seem to share their fair share of similarity to boot. Change for change’s sake is definitely not good, but to see Google introduce this particularly subtle change can be said to be an encouraging sign. After all, My Yahoo has also just revealed a new logo themselves.

Sony BRAVIA Smart Stick NSZ-GU1 launches with Google services

Over the weekend, the Sony BRAVIA Smart Stick surfaced on Sony’s blog briefly, bringing some images of the device and details, only to disappear a short while later without explanation. Today the entertainment device has been officially launched, arriving in stores today as Sony lays out its details, complete with the addition of Google services. […]

BRAVIA Smart Stick costs $149, adds Google TV experience to Sony’s TVs

BRAVIA Smart Stick costs $149, adds Google TV experience to Sony's TVs

After appearances in early FCC leaks and a quick preview this weekend, Sony has officially announced its next Google TV device, the BRAVIA Smart Stick. We already knew the MHL and USB connected dongle would only work with Sony’s 2013 or later HDTVs, and its functionally similar to the company’s previous Google TV boxes so what’s left? Sony has revealed that the NSZ-GU1 carries a $149.99 pricetag and a bit more about the product’s strategy. This stick doesn’t replace the TV’s built-in smart features, the UI is built so it “seamlessly integrates Google and Sony’s own BRAVIA apps, allowing viewers to stay in a single menu to launch any of their apps.” That also means owners don’t have to switch inputs to access live TV thanks to the HDMI passthrough, and should offer quick access to BRAVIA apps not on Google TV like Hulu Plus. The downside? Its limited compatibility means it’s no Apple TV or Roku alternative, and until software updates arrive it’s not a replacement for Google’s popular and cheap Chromecast HDMI dongle. If you have / plan to buy a new Sony HDTV and are interested in living the GTV lifestyle, you should find it at Sony Stores and “select retailers”, although we couldn’t locate one online (yet) after a brief search.

Google Glass Heads To Europe To Convince Lawmakers That It Is OK

Google Glass Heads To Europe To Convince Lawmakers That It Is OK As it stands Google Glass is only available in the US, and when it launches, it is expected to be made available in the US market first.
