Google Wallet for iOS lands (but misses NFC)

Google Wallet has finally launched for iOS, though since Apple’s iPhone and iPad lack NFC the app focuses on sending mobile payments rather than in-store use. While on Android the focus of Google Wallet has been to turn smartphones into tap-to-pay credit cards, Apple’s continued avoidance of NFC has forced a less revolutionary approach on […]

Oh hey, Google Wallet is on iOS.

Oh hey, Google Wallet is on iOS. The new app comes a few days after Wallet’s wide release to Android phones. Since iOS devices don’t support NFC, you won’t be able to use the "tap and pay" function, but you can send money to friends with just an email address, as well as scan in your loyalty cards. Google Wallet finally makes its iOS debut, sans NFC

Google Wallet finally makes its iOS debut, sans NFC

Hey iPhone users, Google Wallet is here! The payments app has finally arrived for iOS devices, bringing with it transfers to friends, loyalty card tracking and nearby offers. Tap-to-pay is notably absent, as iOS devices don’t support NFC, but much of the other Wallet functionality does appear to have made its way to the App Store. As for security, you can keep things locked up using a PIN, and if you lose your phone or tablet, the app can be disabled remotely via Google’s site. Google Wallet for iOS, version 2.0.10206, is available today for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices running iOS 6.0 or better.

Republic Wireless to offer Moto X for $299 off-contract, plans starting at $5

Moto X fenced in

Republic Wireless’ low-cost, WiFi-driven phone service has proven tempting. The rapidly aging smartphones attached to that service, however? Not so much. The carrier will soon improve that device selection, as it has just revealed plans to sell the Moto X for $299 off-contract — roughly half of what it costs at other providers. Service is also expanding beyond the original $19 plan (now limited to the Defy XT), with steep discounts if you don’t depend on cellular service. Rely solely on WiFi, and you’ll pay just $5 per month for unlimited access; a $10 plan will be available if you need cellular voice and text messaging. There will also be more traditional plans with unlimited 3G and 4G data that respectively cost $25 and $40 per month. Republic Wireless hasn’t said when its extra-cheap Moto X will be available, but the new rates should take effect in November.

Google launches a new Chrome browser for iOS 7

Nex-gen Nexus 10 Tablet Could Be Made By ASUS

Nex gen Nexus 10 Tablet Could Be Made By ASUS

As it stands, the Google Nexus 7 tablet is made by ASUS, and the Nexus 10 tablet is made by Samsung. However it seems that the next-gen Nexus 10 tablet could also be made by ASUS, thanks to a sighting in the PCWorld (a computer retailers based in the UK) computer system where the device has been revealed showing a listing for a certain “Google ASUS Nexus 10” device. According to the original leaker, Rage06, they alleged that they were the ones who took the photo and presumably they are an employee at the shop which might explain how they have access to it.

According to the leaker, they claim that PCWorld would only list the device if it was a real deal as opposed to speculation, so perhaps the listing could be the real deal. Alternatively it could merely be a typo as well where they might have confused the Nexus 7 for the Nexus 10, but then again it is possible that Google could switch manufactures so it is not entirely out of the question. In any case take it with a grain of salt, but presumably the Nexus 10, if real, could be announced alongside the Nexus 5 handset whose launch date has been tipped for October. What do you guys think? Anyone looking forward to an ASUS Nexus 10 device?

Apple now lets Windows users sync iCloud bookmarks with Chrome and Firefox

    Image

While the release of iOS 7 was yesterday’s big news, Apple also dropped a number of other smaller, but no less important, software updates. Not content with allowing only Internet Explorer users import their iCloud bookmarks to Windows PCs, the company is now letting Chrome and Firefox join the party. The additional functionality comes by way of an update to Apple’s iCloud Control Panel for Windows, a small app designed to keep contacts, calendars and bookmarks up-to-date between iOS devices, Mac and PC. To make it possible, Apple — which isn’t known for dedicating resources to rival platforms — submitted two browser extensions to do the heavy lifting. Ironically, Mac users are excluded from the fun, putting Windows users in the enviable position of receiving a feature before anyone else.

Report: Google May Stop Using Cookies to Track Users

According to a report from the WSJ, Google is considering ditching cookies to track its users. Instead, Google would "create its own anonymous identifier for each individual". Google, which has previously secretly planted cookies in Internet Explorer and the iPhone, says it’s an attempt to make the Internet more secure for users.

Verizon speaks out on Nexus 7 LTE activation, expects it will be certified ‘shortly’

Despite the wide LTE support featured on the Nexus 7 2013’s cellular modem-equipped model, early buyers have found Verizon won’t activate it for a new line on the Big Red Network. The company responded officially on the matter today, explaining that its 4 – 6 week certification process must be completed first. The process apparently began in August, and spokesperson Debi Lewis said the company expects that to happen “shortly.” The whole process is actually laid out on Verizon’s website and shows how the testing is undertaken by a third party lab of the manufacturer’s choosing — feel free to read through it during the days / weeks your new Nexus 7 isn’t connecting to LTE.

Google Works On Integrating Their Services Together

This article was written on October 09, 2006 by CyberNet.

Late last week Google announced that they were not going to be launching any new services for a little while. Their primary focus will now be revamping their already released products. We have already seen evidence of this happening with the recent update to Google Reader.

This is definitely a good plan by Google because they need to work more on refining their products. The other thing that they said that they really want to do is integrate their services together so that users can easily take advantage of everything that they offer. I think that everyone has been saying that’s what they want for quite awhile.

The first thing that should become a central hub for their services is Google Talk.  It should be working with their other products such as the Google Calendar and even the Google Reader to notify users of upcoming events or recent news. They do have several modules that you can use with the Google Desktop to bring your information together but Vista users, such as myself, may find having another desktop search application redundant.
